waterfalls · 20/01/2006 16:23

lol, that should say disinfectant.

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 16:24

Gisinfectany

I actually quite like that word, though it sort of sounds like a STD

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 16:25

Idea from another thread, get a breadmaker, and bake all day, smells lovely and homely.

Lacrimosa · 20/01/2006 16:25

Ecover spay cleaner is great at cleaning but also smells really nice, also if you put a small scoop of Ecover washing powder in a spray bottle to clean bath/sink/toilet it smells great and gets rid of all grease/dirt, though you do have to rinse it all well

Tortington · 20/01/2006 16:25

incense sticks - i jusdt bought fairy dust ones - i neded to know what fairy dust smalls like - smells nice

Lacrimosa · 20/01/2006 16:28

custardo where do you get them? are they sparkly?

Tortington · 20/01/2006 16:32

no, they not sparkly - apart from the glitter on the holding bit at the bottom. just fancy manufacturing. i bought from yankee candle - dont know whether thats a nationwide store. £1.75 for 10

however in our pund shop they were selling 20 fer a pund but was usual stinky insence smell

we got strawberry and coconut and rasberry too!

MrsBadger · 20/01/2006 16:32

rather than toasting coffee, boiling lemons etc, just make biscuits for the fastidious guests - house smells nice, good-mummy points for home baking AND there are biscuits at the end of it all.
This was how I won over my MIL when DH was still DP

Lacrimosa · 20/01/2006 16:34

do they smell good? I can get new yankee candles have never seen incence sticks, so if the verdict was good I will look for some x

Beetroot · 20/01/2006 16:37

Incense, yeruk. good smelly candles.

Tortington · 20/01/2006 20:02

i like them - but them im a tie dye kinda person

Lacrimosa · 20/01/2006 20:03

me too!

Piffle · 20/01/2006 20:03

pure oils, vanilla is good, jasmine ,lily whatever takes your fancy... few drops burning or dropped under couch cushions or on a rug or wiped onto a windowsill

DumbledoresGirl · 20/01/2006 20:04

Try to have the windows open every day (for a short time if it is cold). Unless you live somewhere with a foul smell, eg next to a factory, nothing beats frsh air. Healthy too.

Tortington · 20/01/2006 20:19

i agree about the oils.

also a car freshner - like the magic tree one in your cushion covers.

cori · 20/01/2006 20:25

Get an Ioniser, air purifier. Tchibo are selling them for £24.00, have just bought one and they make the room smell/feel like the windows have been open all day.

CMac · 20/01/2006 20:29

I like Marks and Spencer's 'Naturally inspired carpet and fabric freshener' - contains nothing but alcohol, water and essential oils and comes in a pump spray - just mist over carpets/cutainns etc. They do a lovely linen one that smells as though you've just done lots of washing! - just a 'clean' smell rather than most fresheners that smell like flowers or fruit and are really obviously air fresheners.

MarsOnLife · 20/01/2006 20:36

Bake Lemon Drizzle Cake on a regular basis lol

dinny · 20/01/2006 20:44

open windows lots

have scented candles everywhere

buy lillies as frequently as can afford it

burn ylang ylang or jasmine oils

dinny · 20/01/2006 20:46

vanilla-scented candles, that is

and how about a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil on the hallway lightbulb?

morningpaper · 20/01/2006 20:48

ooh can't believe I'm the first to suggest:

Buy some lovely essential oil (e.g. Body Shop Satsuma/Grapefuit is nice) and put drops on your hoover bag and filters. When you hoover it is all nice and ZINGY!
