They should just shut up and accept what you want

as in most things in life!
dogs and most men are colour blind!

Moomin · 20/01/2006 10:16

good god yes. i hate it when dh thinks he has a right to offer opinions about colours/furniture etc

noddyholder · 20/01/2006 10:17

absolutely!

Enid · 20/01/2006 10:17

isn't that actual law?

Flamesparrow · 20/01/2006 10:17

pmsl - DH is obsessed with blue for some reason .

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 10:17

We have a dark green leather sofa, and dh thinks a wallpaper with a deep red in would go well

Flamesparrow · 20/01/2006 10:18

Oooh yes, he'd get on soooo well with DH

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 10:19

My dh is obaessed with borders.

Flamesparrow · 20/01/2006 10:21

Hmmm... I think there they'd differ, but you never know. This is why I don't let him decorate

MrsBadger · 20/01/2006 10:29

yep
DH has wanted the living room painted navy and bright yellow for years now. I have yet to give in. Try the Dulux virtual decorator

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 10:30

OMG, navy and yellow yuk, thanks for the link.

Piffle · 20/01/2006 10:37

god yes, I chose
he painted
we are both happy....
Like Enid said I'm sure it's on the stature books somewhere.
If not we'd all be living in rooms decorated in football strip colours. With Jordan borders.

WigWamBam · 20/01/2006 10:41

My dh has absolutely no sense of colour or style whatsoever - luckily for me he realises this, and so I get free rein when it comes to decorating and new furniture. Except that dd is now wanting to exert her choices too, and would quite happily have the entire house decorated and furnished in shocking pink.

She gets her colour sense from her dad, it seems ...

sweetkitty · 20/01/2006 10:46

Mine is a nightmare he has a blue obsession as well! In our last house he gave me free rain and was like "you choose" whenever I was deciding on colour schemes etc then he blows up and says it doesn't feel like his house at all as he never got to chose anything! He wanted the spare room navy blue ffs!

GhostofChristmasNatt · 20/01/2006 11:00

UYnless you were lucky enough to have a gay husband. My house would be maroon ansd bottle green if I didn't fight so hard for a woman's right to decide....

suedonim · 20/01/2006 14:28

Oh yes, very true. Men only know one colour - blue. Go on, do a trial! Ask every man you meet his favourite colour and 99% of them will say blue!

FrayedKnot · 20/01/2006 14:32

Recent decorating project in my house:

Me " I think we should paint the bedroom walls x"
DH " But there won't be enough contrast between the walls and the wardrobes"
Me : "There will, trust me"
DH: "I think we should be paitning the walls a dark colour"
Me: "No, we can't have a dark colour in here. Trust me"
DH " Grump"

Later, DH aside to my mum, while painting MY CHOICE of colour

"I'm not sure this will work but I trust FK"

He would NEVER say that to my face.

Piffle · 20/01/2006 14:34

When we got asked what colour we had painted our living room, dh said pink and purple
FFS
Armagnac and Pshmina you fool I had to hiss at him
He made it sound like Barbies beach house...

waterfalls · 20/01/2006 14:36

My dh reply to any colour I choose is 'it looks like cats puke'

cats puke must be very colourful then

They are not allowed opinions on any household alterations and in order to protect themselves from harm they should only get involved in decisions about:

bins
window cleaning
gutters
drains
weeding (with careful supervison)
moving very high or heavy items
carwashing
leaf clearing

Piffle · 20/01/2006 14:43

I let mine have a whizz on the hoover, at cleaning the oven and mopping the kitchen as well...
But he never does it properly...

FrayedKnot · 20/01/2006 14:47

And, thinking about it, it is right that you choose, and they do the actual decorating. All the while moaning and demanding cups of tea. And then leave loads of mess for you to clear up.

lucy5 · 20/01/2006 14:48

My dh is colour blind!

expatinscotland · 20/01/2006 14:48

You mean they actually care about colours?

Mine certainly doesn't.

GhostofChristmasNatt · 20/01/2006 14:52

You are v lucky expat, the worst is a man who has views. i have given up thinking i will ever replace the sofa after 4000 trips to Tottenham Court Road culminating in rows about why poo-brown is not a good look for a dark livingroom
