They should just shut up and accept what you want

You are sooooo right ediemay.

I have to wrestle with dh periodically to get him to take down his college photo (Aberystwyth Agricultural College,1986-87 and 1988-89. Yes you read it right-it is a double.)

I leave you to imagine what a gang of mingers they all are.

GhostofChristmasNatt · 20/01/2006 14:54

ugh ugh, the college photos, moondog. DP gets his out and looks at them wistfully, there seem to be about a 100. Or the largest and ugliest stereo in the universe assembled over years during his twenties...

Pfer · 20/01/2006 15:32

TF DH and I have pretty much the same boring taste - everything neutral!

Aloha · 20/01/2006 15:35

Men like giant tellies. And really, really ugly music thingies.
They are pemitted to do all the things on ediemay's list, and also allowed to put things in the loft/cellar and to clear out the shed.
They are not allowed to choose colours. Can't believe that Farrow and Ball are men, actually.

scotlou · 20/01/2006 15:43

Well I'm going to stick up for my dh here as his sense of style when it comes to home interiors is much, much better than mine. He's had free rein on both bathrooms, kitchen and livingroom and I'm very happy!

ediemay · 20/01/2006 15:44

moondog, we need to see the pic! WHy do they all keep those awful school/college framed photos? And yes, aloha, giant tellies!! Apparently we NEED one of those because the picture on ours is blah blah blah something or other...

suedonim · 20/01/2006 19:08

Lol at this thread. I permit my dh to clean the loo. He's v good at it, I will admit.

jalopy · 20/01/2006 19:19

This thread reminds of the time, a few years ago I stupidly asked my DS (6 at the time) what colour walls he wanted in his new bedroom. He replied brown and black . Like father, like son. Make all the decisions myself now

I made the mistake of going a bit mad one Christmas and buying dh a great big bloke stylie TV. Boy, do I regret it, especially since we moved house and our new sitting room is smaller, making the damn thing even more dominant.

However, it is digital, so we get Cbeebies. But a nice small TV with a Freeview box would do that just as well...

Piffle · 20/01/2006 19:56

Yes
My dh is on the giant tv prowl.. apparently the sound on ours is... umm screwed
I can hear it, ds can hear it, dd can hear it, even codgy old great gran can hear it
But dh cannot...
Thats ok, while we were looking at tvs he spots the music system that gives wireless sound in every room.
Just what you need when you spend all your home time firmly on your arse, with a ps 2
obviously...
men
spit hoick

The way my parents have always worked it is, my mum chooses but my step-dad retains right of veto. It's only if she goes really mad, i.e. lime green paint, that he vetoes. Seems to work very well. She likes to test him sometimes, like "what colour are the kitchen curtains?" he has absolutely no idea, despite doing a great deal of the washing up and the cooking, making his own bread and so on, it's not like the kitchen is a room he's never in.

Blokes seem to like dark colours don't they? Dh had our bedrooms in our old flat (before we met) painted navy blue. WHY?!

Aloha · 20/01/2006 20:07

Men do stupid things given free rein, like buying grey, red and black duvet covers. We take over to save them from themselves.

melrose · 20/01/2006 20:10

My Dh is comviced that men only see a linited range of colours, paint 25 lilac tomes on the wall, ask him to choose and he says therir all Purple! Says he would put the person who names dulux paints in his room 101!

Mirage · 21/01/2006 22:12

I'm obviously doing something very wrong here.I get to choose the colours & do the decorating.Mind you I also get all the nasty jobs too.My current tally is,
Scraping off woodchip,
Clearing a blocked sewer (do NOT flush babywipes)
Clearing blocked drains
Sweeping the chimney
Emptying the pond
Posioning rats & clearing up rat poo from the shed.
Emptying the nappy bucket
Clearing out the gutters
Washing out the bins
Cutting the hedge
Raking up leaves
Weedkilling.

Hmmm,I wonder if there is a market for hiring myself out to do horrible jobs for other people? It wouldn't be so bad if I actually got paid for it.

Spidermama · 21/01/2006 22:17

This drives me crazy. He thinks it's a joint decision. It's not just colours either in this house. Mine won't let me de-clutter. I'm desperate to make some space but he thinks it's a better idea to 'store' loads of stuff we never use.

And another thing while we're at it ... When I finally do a DIY job he has been promising to do for years he critisises the way I've done it.

Whoops! Here he comes with my tea. Best press 'post message' before he gets here. (mind you he's only making me tea so he can watch MOTD.

Spidermama · 21/01/2006 22:18

scraping off woodchip Mirage. Horrible job.
