I was just about to say the Zoo, I've been there after closing time and it's really enchanting when it's empty.

Aloha · 19/01/2006 18:45

Where does she live and what does she want? No children, I assume

hoxtonchick · 19/01/2006 18:46

the conservatory at the barbican?

Marina · 19/01/2006 18:47

Religious or not...am guessing not.
Syon House has been used by some Mners but that's not really central.

Hmm, with optional oaf in wellies and hosepipes everywhere hoxty...I have the misfortune to look out on to that very architectural feature and I really hope they clean it and the surroundings up properly. It is nice though!

hoxtonchick · 19/01/2006 18:49

ps are you going to woolacombe again this year? we are there end of july/beginning of aug.

dinny · 19/01/2006 18:53

she's saying no children except my two (I think) not sure how that'll work out though...

she lives in Hamsptead and to give you an idea of what she wants she's looked at the Cinnamon Club and St Stephen's Club (St James Park).

she's really anti-zoo, so don't think she'd be on for that idea - ta though!

We had ours at Canonbury Academy in, durrr, Canonbury! It was lovely, historic, could bring our own caterer, flowers, grog etc and had the whole place to ourelves. This was 13 years ago, so best to check situation now. How about Lauderdale House? Kenwood? Burgh House?
Not NW, but I went to a nice wedding in Holland Park, ceremony in Orangery and reception in restauarent. Have also heard good things about Leighton House. My niece is getting married in April in central London, can't remember name of venue but looks nice. Will check and post again.

chicagomum · 19/01/2006 19:14

If she is in Hampstead, what about Kenwood (not central London, but local and beautiful grounds.)

Aloha · 19/01/2006 19:14

kenwood lovely.

chicagomum · 19/01/2006 19:26

WE looked at Lauderdale house for ours but you have to be so involved with setting up etc and have to be out by midnight (music off by 11.30) it seemed like to much hassle

chicagomum · 19/01/2006 19:28

We ending up persuading everyone to go slightly further afield to Fanham's Hall in Hertfordshire which was beautiful.

Fanhams Hall

Second picture down is the room we got married in.

We got married in the Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich. We walked next door to the Royal Naval College for the photos. It's stunning, right on the river, with big bay windows and balconies.

JARMspostie · 19/01/2006 21:34

Alexandra Palace?

Davros · 19/01/2006 22:47

here is where my niece is getting married and having reception.

ChicPea · 19/01/2006 22:58

What about Claridges?

georginars · 19/01/2006 23:20

Hey Slug, we had our reception at the Trafalgar, and my sister had her whole wedding there. It's fabulous, isn't it! Not quite central London & not that handy to Hampstead, but definitely very special.
Tipex, was that Pembroke Lodge you mean by Richmond Park? have been to 2 weddings there and it was lovely.
Can't think of anything North London. The most central wedding I've been to was at St Mary-le-Boltons, reception in Ransome's Wharf(? might be dock) by Battersea Bridge, which was lovely but quite small.
Centrally, there's the Landsdowne Club, or another private club could be lovely. And do the museums do them, e.g. the Natural History museum? I think somone I know went to a wedding at the Globe, that might be nice. Plus St Katharine's Dock, or the Kensington Roof Gardens, or the Dorchester, or the Royal Society of Arts. And I think Grays Inn and the Law Courts do weddings too.I think that St Stephens Club looks lovely.
ooh, I love a London wedding.

georginars · 19/01/2006 23:21

I don't know why I got so excited there! Must be the thought of leaving London that's making me all nostalgic over the lovely places there are. Sorry Dinny

LeahE · 19/01/2006 23:26

I think Tower Bridge have a licence. We've been to a wedding reception there which was great (and extremely swish) and I think they can do the actual wedding as well. I can't now work out where in the bridge it was (alcohol having fogged my brain) but it was somewhere up high with great views.

pollydoodle · 20/01/2006 01:02

how about the guild/livery halls in the City? We held our reception at Skinners Hall which was a wonderful location and a fabulous building (rebuilt after the Great Fire of London in 1666). And a fab address - 8 1/2 Dowgate Hill. And I think that there are several churches in the City that you might be able to get married in even if you don't live there as they don't have proper parishes with lots of parishoners to support them (eg if you have any sort of link with journalism try St Brides on Fleet St).

But there are lots of of these halls ranging in size and age and they are usually quite quiet at the weekend, and lots of them are registered for the ceremony too. Try this as a link to lots of their web sites - Livery Halls , looks fairly comprehensive.

Also Square Meal has a wedding specialist section but it might be worth looking through other venues too if you have a particular area in mind

Good luck - there are some fantastic venues out there!

This is the one in Richmond. My friend held her reception here after marrying at the church in Barnes. It's beautiful and has lovely grounds. Was a great reception and fabulous staff.
