Am I the only one who irons babygros? Sad but true!

The only things irons are good for is use as a doorstop or weapon.

moondog · 24/01/2006 23:43

I iron everything mentioned here.
My utility room is a vision of pristine piles of colour coordinated garments.

threelittlebabies · 25/01/2006 00:16

mazzystar- snap! My mum swears it makes them softer too

UCM · 25/01/2006 00:29

I'm with Colditz on this.

UCM · 25/01/2006 00:34

However for those of you who use the tumble to iron.

If you forget to get it out of the tumble dryer, and it's all creased. Put a wet vest/sock/pants in covered in Lenor. 20 minutes and your tumble drying is as good as new.

Janh · 25/01/2006 00:42

my aunt used to iron flannels, and her knickers .

Janh · 25/01/2006 00:45

She's dead now, so you see....

ThePrisoner · 25/01/2006 01:03

I absolutely and completely loathe ironing. I only do mine when necessary, usually 10 minutes before needed.

Dh does his own (was brought up to do his own, so I had to marry him).

Eldest dd, 21yrs, is so anti-establishment that she won't iron anything ... but it really shows. She looks permanently crumpled.

Younger dds too fashion-conscious to be seen dead without flat clothes and hair.

I don't even want to be associated with a thread about ironing because it sounds all house-wifely!

Janh · 25/01/2006 01:06

You and me both, TP. I will iron a shirt for DH if he has an interview to go to but that's it!

ThePrisoner · 25/01/2006 01:10

Mine ha to iron his own shirt. And mine too if I leave it nearby!!

roisin · 25/01/2006 01:23

I'm a reformed character. I used to iron babygrows, muslin squares ... even pyjamas

Then I cut down to school uniform, shirts, blouses, trousers, and tea towels.

But since I got a tumble drier I've cut down even further. I always empty the w/m and drier immediately, give things a good shake and hang them up. And iron virtually nothing!

(DH does his own shirts, and sometimes mine!)

mazzystar · 25/01/2006 12:54

we don't have a tumble drier

and we don't do fabric conditioner (in case of eczema)

so have to iron

good job i like it. makes me feel like good mother and wifey when am in fact nothing of the sort

LoveMyGirls · 25/01/2006 13:04

i used to iron but then i got bored of it and now i only iron if absolutly necessary, dont do tea towels but mine look like they could do with it but id rather MN instead.

def dont do baby clothes there is no point they only wear them for a few hours and then you put them back in the wash!
i wash, tumble and put away then iron as and when needed. DP is very good at ironing and he usually does anything the kids need and he does his own shirts even though im a SAHM (for those of you that thought i was a nice person you were wrong ) seriously i have better things to do with my time and he moans when i iron his stuff, says its not up to his standards so im sure if you were me you'd make him do his own too!

I don't iron anything, but on the v.odd occasion (couple of times a year!) that I do, I love to iron pillowcases, teatowels and the like. Only because they look ironed afterwards!

Will probably iron my baby sheets before the baby is born, but that will be the last time I ever iron them! I remember before ds was born - every item of baby stuff was ironed and v.neatly organised in his cupboards. Lasted about 5 minutes after we got home!

DH does his own shirts for work, and his trousers get dry cleaned. He might also iron a shirt and trousers if he's going out. I really don't iron anything. My mum is probably quite ashamed of me, and when I go to stay will do all my ironing for me!

KateF · 25/01/2006 17:30

at how many dh/dps iron their own stuff. My dh states categorically that he will not iron-not even if I'm ill

georginars · 25/01/2006 17:32

I don't iron unless absolutely essential-interview, wedding etc. I would NEVER iron baby clothers, there is no point!

nolifeitwouldseem · 25/01/2006 18:02

Can't believe this thread still going - SOOOOOO glad I'm not the only saddo!!! May be I'll grow out of it if/when I have dd/ds 2!!!!! Dp irons his own shirts - says I'm best at flat things.... he should try a babygro!

my gran used to iron knickers - she reckoned they "go on better" if you do.

MIL irons her teenage sons' jeans .

I haven't been near the ironing board since ds was born. Dp irons his own shirts and I don't have anything smart enough to need it now I'm a SAHM .

notasheep · 25/01/2006 23:37

Highlander · 26/01/2006 10:12
