Hes been asleep since he got home from nursery at 3pm (fell asleep in the car)

I tried waking him at 10 to 5 but he was very sleepy and cant stay awake, for the last half hour I have been trying to wake him fully and during that time my mil came and even she tried to wake him (pulled his little blanket off him!) and he just looked at her.

He hasnt said a word and cant keep his eyes open.

Is he just very tired or is there something wrong with him?

He feels hot but did fall asleep wearing his coat so is sweaty.

Thanks

Take his clothes off, cool him right down.

KBear · 19/01/2006 17:20

take his temp, look at his skin for rashes, call the doc anyway.

Pudmog · 19/01/2006 17:21

Take his temp, sit him up or walk around with him. Wipe his face with a cool cloth. It is hard when they fall asleep like this. Start to undress him. I fhis temp is high then i would take him to the doctors etc. HTH

has he been sleeping in the car seat? they can get very hot in them, especially with a coat and blanket on

hornbag · 19/01/2006 17:22

Tempt him with his favourite food to see if he snaps out of it -if hes just sleepy this might be enough to make him spring back??

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 17:22

Gosh, i thought you were all going to tell me I was paraniod!

Off to strip and check for rashs (strip him not me!)

I would call anyway too - it's obviously not normal behaviour for him and you are anxious about him. Hope he is just exhausted though.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 17:23

Hes 3 and a half btw

Was asleep on car seat

Already tempted with choccie, he just looked right through it and hasnt touched it...

never paranoid - just a mum Tamba!! He might be worn out, dS is 4 and can sleep for hours but you obviously suspect something's up so best check him over.

madmarchhare · 19/01/2006 17:25

NHS Direct if he doesnt perk up and you are still worried.

shortcake · 19/01/2006 17:25

Could be just tiredness - but not worth taking risk - keep wiping face and neck with cold flannel and call Gp if still no response.

bundy · 19/01/2006 17:26

have you taken his temp?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 17:34

There cant be anything much wrong with him I dont think cause I just did what you said and took off his shoes and jumper which he didnt like - he moaned aboit. Then he ate his choccie very quickly has has now lay down and gone back to sleep!!!???

(No rashes BTW)

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 17:35

if you are at all worried - call the nhs helpline, if you cannot find the number - go to the doctors

has this happened before?

mcmudda · 19/01/2006 17:40

Tamba - ds (3.4) does this when he's coming down with something - just shuts down and sleeps and sleeps for a day or so. But if this isn't normal for your ds agree with others to call your GP/NHS 24.

If your ds is hotter than usual (and loads hotter than your skin temp if you haven't got a therm.), then wake him to give him calpol. Also maybe a lukewarm bath which would cool him down and wake him up enough for you to find out if he's hurting anywhere (throat, ears etc.)

bundy · 19/01/2006 17:42

feel his head with your lips, as your hands being too hot/cold not good indicator. is he sweating?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 17:44

He is sweaty but becoming more alert.

I really hope hes not coming down with something. He says his head hurts but that was in answer to me asking if his head hurt...If id have said does your tummy hurt he would no doubt have said yes! Poor kid.

Ring NHS Direct for advice - 0845 4647

LeahE · 19/01/2006 18:05

I agree, call NHS Direct. They are always very helpful and never imply you are wasting their time if you are worried.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 18:11

I cant call anyone my landline isnt working and my mobile has no credit in it

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 19/01/2006 18:14

Tamba, I really do think you need to speak to someone about this. Is there anyone you can borrow a mobile from, or a neighbour whose phone you can use? You can give them your mobile number to call you back on, so you can talk to them in your own house when they call you back.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 19/01/2006 18:16

time to meet the new neighbours then i guess!
