Help a mum who lost a son at Hillsborough

Anne Williams lost her son Kevin at Hillsborough.

The coroner in the original Hillsborough inquest ruled that all victims were dead by 3.15 so the authorities' actions after this were irrelevant.

Reliable witnesses have confirmed that Kevin Williams was alive and talking long after this - the Special Constable who sat with him heard him ask for his mum before he died at around 4.

Independent pathologists who reviewed the evidence believe that intubation might have saved him. But there was no medical help available. A fleet of ambulances waiting outside the ground was denied access to the pitch by the police.

More info here. (sorry, it's the Mail Blush )

Kevin was 15. His mum just wants to know why he was left to die without medical help. It's really easy to sign this petition and give her a bit of support.

(And I am actually shaking with fear at the thought of starting a thread in AIBU. Shock )

I wondered about that too. I've seen the effects of a similar tragedy. Lockerbie destroyed the lives of 30 people or so. All through the death of one person.

Destroyed is too strong a word, severely affected is not quite strong enough, but you get my drift.

FrozenChocolate · 11/01/2012 10:58

done

Sudaname · 11/01/2012 11:00

Sorry Frantic - though 'Frankie Banana' has a ring to it.

carernotasaint · 11/01/2012 23:35

Signed.

hellymelly · 11/01/2012 23:40

Done. I will never forget the shocking pictures of this tragedy.

edam · 11/01/2012 23:46

Signed. Hillsborough was disgraceful and the treatment of the victims and their families by the authorities has always been shameful.

Just popped back to say thanks again to the people who signed. The petition closed today and there was a massive surge of signatures towards the end - fortunately enough to pass the 100,000 mark, so let's hope something happens as a result.

Kreecher, I did originally post in AIBU but it lasted about 20 minutes before being moved. I'm far too scared of MNHQ to try it on again!

Sudaname People trying to trace missing family members were shown Polaroids of the victims in an attempt to identify them, so that not everyone would have to go through to the room they were using as a makeshift morgue Sad . The lad we knew who was missing had (we think) managed to get out when they opened the gate onto the pitch and had just wandered off. Some people found him curled up in their garden several miles from the ground, saw the Liverpool shirt and let the police know. He was pretty battered but the mental scars were terrible - his personality changed overnight and I don't think he ever recovered. My dad and brother were right at the back of the pens (late again, thank god they are so disorganised) so were spared the crush and didn't see the worst scenes, but were deeply affected nevertheless. As was my mum, who was following the news at home.

Fingers crossed that this petition works. JFT96.
