... it's all going pearshaped with Essbee's temporary living arrangements with her childfree sister.

What are her best options for finding cheap, short term accomodation??!

Tourist board? It would have to be tomorrow though.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 14:48

Have told her to get herself online somewhere somehow! I's too tricky to organise second hand.

Agree that the holiday let type things are probably her best bet as it's for a short time.

Get yourself down to the local council offices they have a duty to house you if you have no choice but to become homeless. not an ideal situation but it will buy you some time to find somewhere else.

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 14:49

Even getting online isn't that easy in Devon! Poor essbee. Spacecadet, my link is to laterooms, I agree, best bet. Shall I check Travelodge? They have online booking, hang on.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 14:49

To be fair to her sister (but no, I don't get it either!) I think she went into this with her blinkers firmly in place. It wasn't going well after 24 hours... It's a small house and, erm, "well ordered". No reason to back out of the agreement now though. Bah!

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 14:51

Exeter Travelodge have a £50 room. It's at Exeter services but they are at least set back a little bit from the motorway and easy to get to. And they have a double and a pull out sofa bed. Basic but clean and ok.

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 14:53

I think she should go there tonight just to get away and have a decent nights sleep. She can gather her thoughts in the morning.

What about the Women's Refuge? I don't know essbbee story and whether she's eligible but surely they could offer some advice?

puff · 15/01/2006 14:56

0808 800 4444

This is Shelter's helpline - it's open today until midnight - they might be able to offer some practical help on a Sunday

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 14:57

She says thanks btw.

this place is available and is £200 a week

CountessDracula · 15/01/2006 14:58

fgs surely her sister won't turf her out into a refuge!

puff · 15/01/2006 14:59

I'm sure its not easy soupy, but it's temporary and essbee's between a rock and a hard place at the mo - any chance the two of them can talk it through, or is there no chance?

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 14:59

I know, what about Exeter Youth Hostel? I know she'd have to join YHA but that would be ok.

WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 15:00

YHA number is (01392) 873329

puff · 15/01/2006 15:00

I know Shelter sounds a bit drastic, but with the children having started school, they need to be fairly near to it, so v local accommodation knowledge would be good

CountessDracula · 15/01/2006 15:01

well the one I posted is only 6 miles from exeter

CountessDracula · 15/01/2006 15:01

She does have a car yes?

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 15:02

Yes, she has a car. Have passed on assorted info.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 15/01/2006 15:02

Soupy, does she want us to ring any for availabilty?

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 15:04

The other option is to take the children out of school for however long it takes to sort out the house purchase and stay back up here in her parents' house.

I don't think this is for the best but I guess there ar the financial considerations.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 15:05

I think she needs to contact the places herself as only she can decide if they're suitab;e.

OP posts:
puff · 15/01/2006 15:11

How long is she looking at soupy?

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 15:12

She thinks 2 weeks ish. It depends on the house purchase and somethign to do with the courts due tothe divorce.
