Chocolate shop!!! Imagine being surrounded by all that lovely chocolate all day yummmmmmmm¬!

wilbur · 11/11/2003 09:35

What I could do with near to me is a great shop that sells nice gifts (useful, pretty fun things, no tat) with funny cards etc etc. Somewhere you could go and find a present for someone, from baby to old lady, that was nice and there was a choice of not very expensive things and some slightly dearer things.

Having said that, there's a new second-hand (but smart designery second hand) shop near us where you can take your old clothes and they will try and sell them for you, they also sell one off things that people have made, and that seems to be doing really well.

What area are you in naughtynoonoo? have you worked in retail before?

jmg · 11/11/2003 09:43

Twinkie - I also live in Chislehurst and have often thought the same about a book shop.

I would also love to see a nice tea shop - not a coffee bar! One where you get home baked scones and cakes and pretty white table clothes on the table.

I guess I'm just fed up with the whole chain thing - particularly since cafe rouge is about the only place to drop in for a coffee round about here.

Maybe a combination of the two - bookshop at the front and a nice tea shop at teh back where you could linger over a cup of tea while browsing through a big pile of books - prefarable travel guides to some exotic destination.

OK time to get back to reality and get on with some work before my boss walks past!!

Small world, I live in Bromley. Twinkie are you on about the Bull end of Chislehurst - it has a slight old world charm hasn't it. I know what you mean about the Meg Ryan bookshop, but I have a headache thinking about a 4pm childrens reading hour!

I'd open an internet cafe and coffee shop with a creche.

Angeliz · 11/11/2003 13:19

i've always wanted to open a little cafe with a big glass a partition and a playroom in the other side! You could sit and chat whilst seeing your child!

kayleigh · 11/11/2003 13:28

That sounds a lovely idea Angeliz. Especially if the glass partition is soundproof

Angeliz · 11/11/2003 13:29

that would be a must

Jimjams · 11/11/2003 14:12

I used to live in Bromley. When I go back to visit I will look out for said bookshop in Chislehurst.

Loads of coffee shops in Bromley......

naughtynoonoo · 11/11/2003 14:20

We played with the idea of opening a coffee shop in Bromley long before they actually took off there, I do like the idea of opening one up, where people can wonder in have a nice cuppa, read a nice glossy have a bite to eat..... Maybe have a childs area. I always thought Bromley could do with a decent baby shop, there is nothing decent there at the moment - I couldn't actually class MOthercare as being decent!

When you've set up your retail empires ladies, could one of you give my dh a job and a hugely increased salary, please? He's v. hardworking and could do with a change of scene.

Norma · 11/11/2003 14:41

I would open a sort of creche and would call it 'The Kid's Kennel' where parents could go off on holiday and leave their kids behind.

sykes · 11/11/2003 14:54

There's a hotel like that in London, or there was. Not sure how young the children were who could be left or for how long but am sure it exists/ed

Jimjams · 11/11/2003 14:57

sykes - they could be left overnight as an extension of nursery- so you could drop them at 7am and pick them up on your way home at 11pm or the next day. Personally it gave me the absolute shivers- seem to remember it being for pre-schoolers upwards. I think Junior ran a piece on it (who else).

sykes · 11/11/2003 15:04

Is it still open? It sounds such an odd idea and can't imagine it is/was aimed at people in desperate situations with no help who HAD to leave children overnight as I think it was ridiculously expensive.

Jimjams · 11/11/2003 15:26

I think it was for the designer babies sykes It was ludicrously expensive. No idea if its still going.

suedonim · 11/11/2003 16:43

A friend and I were playing with the idea of setting up a party shop and also offering every service you could possibly need to give your party some va va vroom.

codswallop · 11/11/2003 18:02
