I have had ongoing trouble with my wisdom teeth and its taken years for them to break though, with bouts of pain when they have tried. Anyway 3 of them are through now and my top one is trying to break through again, its hurts so much, my Dh thinks the tooth is broken, but I would have known if I broke it surely!!! I can't see the tooth proberably but I can see something dark on the tooth, wether its dried blood or the tooth is rotten I can't tell, whats the chance of it being rotten when I have no rotten teeth, 1 filling when I was younger and I take care of my teeth.

I also seem to have a lump on the inside of my gum, but it doesn't hurt, I think its the tooth.

Has the tooth actually broken through a while ago? Because if any part of a tooth is in the oral environment (no matter how tiny) the tooth is prone to decay (particularly if it is awkward to get to and therefore keep clean). The lump on the gum could well be an abcess. The dark patch could be decay or just staining. The lump could also be inflammed gum due to an infection. I would advise pain relief and hot salt water mouth rinses and get an appointment with you dentist to get it checked.

Apparently I had a cavity in my wisdom tooth, having never had any fillings in my others. They are so hard to reach to brush, especially half in it could be very likely. I had all 4 of mine taken out as they were impacted (not sure what that meant, but think they were never going to come in properly) and though hell at the time better than them hurting on and off.

I'm going to the denist tomorrow I hope they don't pull it, its hurt enough atm

If it is pulled take arnica tablets as they really help speed up healing.

sparklymieow · 12/01/2006 17:56

and yes, I think it did break through a while back, the lump is white, but doesn't hurt. Its a contant pain, that is worse when I bite down And it hurts to drink hot tea, but it doesn't hurt to brush it.

My mouth is overcrowded as it is, and the dentist I saw five years ago said my wisdom teeth would never break through because of bone and lack of space, I think he lied!!

For years my wisdom teeth played up, finally had all 4 out at same time under general in hospital. Best thing I did about them. Not enough room in my mouth apparently. Consider getting them taken out, may save alot of pain in the long run.

sparklymieow · 12/01/2006 23:07

still sore and now the back of my throat is hurting

Sparkly you take take a mixture of painkillers

Take paracetomol

2 hours later take nurofen (simple nurofen with nothing else added)

2 hours later paracetomol

Get my drift?

It enables you to maintain a higher level of painkillers in your blood stream.

I had my wisdom teeth out, in hosp under a GA (only 3 in my case, the 4th never appeared) mostly because my jaw was playing up - still is, 35 years later, so that didn't help much

God knows why they call them wisdom teeth. PITA teeth. Defo think about having them out, mieow.

sparklymieow · 12/01/2006 23:22

The other ones all came through ok, and they are fully in place but this one on the right top is so painful. I have just taken some more nurofen, and rubbed some teething gel on my gums, lol. I have to phone the dentist in the morning so they can slot me in. I am very nervous about dentists because although I have all my teeth and only had one filling, they complain about my cleaning of my teeth every time, my teeth are overlapping in places, because its overcrowded, and then I have to see the hygienist, and she is quite rough. And I am scared that they will say somethhing tomorrow because they recommended removing these wisdom teeth before, but she wanted to track them, she also really wants me to have 2 teeth removed at the front that sit behind the other teeth. Well at least if they say I have to have these removed, I can get those one removed at the same time

When my wisdom teeth were coming through I kept getting infections. For ages they would be fine then all of a sudden they would move and I'd get an infection. Got to the stage that I was able to go to the dentist and tell him what was wrong before even sitting in the chair. They are now finally all through and I haven't had any problems since.

starlover · 12/01/2006 23:28

sparkly... i had the one next to my wisdom tooth taken out! it was a bit manky anyway... and MUCH nicer to have a little tooth removed than a wisdom one!

chicagomum · 12/01/2006 23:30

Sorry sl but the tooth next to the wisdom tooth is the same size as (or even sometimes bigger than) the wisdom tooth.

sparklymieow · 12/01/2006 23:32

well I know its defo. my wisdom tooth causing the trouble, it feels like I have a sore throat tho, is that normal???

OP posts:
starlover · 12/01/2006 23:32

is it? i didn't know that. mine was pretty manky though, so still better to have that one out and a nice shiny new one in its place! lol

Linnet · 12/01/2006 23:51

I always got a sore throat when my wisdom teeth started moving, I'd wake up with a sore throat and know that by the next day I'd need to be going to the dentist for some antibiotics. I'd also get a sore ear.

sparklymieow · 12/01/2006 23:58

it was very sudden this time, I was fine and then it just started hurting... I have had another look at it (as well as I can, anyway, because I have so many teeth in there lol) and i think it is decayed I don't believe it, I have looked after my teeth so well and now this
