It gets wiped down after every use with a pampers wipe. The tray does anyway.

Straps are MINGING, but they don't come off to wash.

The day I start using Dettol spray like the advert is the day I need help.

puff · 11/01/2006 15:06

The visible bits are clean and I sweep it out every few days, but I need to scrub the mould off from the underside of the seat before I give it back to my sil (borrowed it from her) .

chicagomum · 11/01/2006 15:08

I remove and wash the tray after every meal (ds is 1 and "Feeds" himself, so a simple wipe doesn't suffice. I aslo hoover it a couple of times a week to remove the toast crumbs etc for all the nooks and crannies. Rarely wash it though as its such a pita to get the cover on and off and it takes forever to dry.

nailpolish · 11/01/2006 15:08

mine is a PITA, wish i had never bought it, its a wooden one
this one

it IS good in that itll last forever, as can be adjusted to a normal seat when dd2 is older, but itll probably smell and be filthy by then!

the worst thing about it is the strap doesnt come off, would love to be able to take it off and throw it in the washing machine!

have to scrub by hand instead

like i have nothing better to do..

MrsDoolittle · 11/01/2006 15:09

Now this is one of the great things about the Tripp Trapp

Very sorry to gloat girls, couldn't resist it

nailpolish · 11/01/2006 15:10

do tell mrsdoolittle

MrsDoolittle · 11/01/2006 15:12

It's just sooo simple to clean, no nooks and cranies or bits that you can't take off or get to....just wipe it down
I shan't go on, you get the picture

nailpolish · 11/01/2006 15:13

and i bought mine as i liked the tripp trapp but its so dear, i bought a cheap copy instead

thatll teach me

Bozza · 11/01/2006 15:18

Probably a bit on the mucky side but I don't care. Because it is my nephew that is using it, so it is my sister's problem. When DD got to 13 months I could no longer bear the sight of the huge monstrosity with non-removable straps and all sorts of nooks and crannys in the padded plastic I offloaded it and moved DD into a small plastic booster chair.

OK I have yoghurt on the chair leg (but it is only a cheap Ikea kitchen chair) and it has it's own crumb catching bits as well but it's much better. And now DD is 20 months I have got rid of the tray and moved the seat up a level and she sits at the table. Brilliant.

Piffle · 11/01/2006 15:20

DD has a trip trapp
its clean, tis easy to clean indeed

fennel · 11/01/2006 15:21

i find my tripp trapp is pretty hard to clean. porridge etc gets ingrained on the step bits.

suspect that is because we are very lax about cleaning it often enough. even an easy-clean chair is too much effort for us [blush[

fennel · 11/01/2006 15:22

someone recommended just leaving your high chair out in the rain to self-clean. we tried this. sadly the manchester perpetual drizzle doesn't work, we need a tropical downpour.

lol fennel

oliveoil · 11/01/2006 15:42

what the hell is a tripp trapp?

Furball · 11/01/2006 15:45

I used to take mine in the garden and hose it down every few weeks - why do most have loads of creases and crevices and straps that you can't remove? crazy

MrsDoolittle · 11/01/2006 15:45

Fennel!! You were obviously telling me porkies then! It was you who advised me to buy it saying it was so easy to clean!

mazzystar · 11/01/2006 15:53

we have a tripp-trapp

but i couldn't absolutely swear that it doesn't have at this moment have a cheerio welded to its underside

nailpolish · 11/01/2006 16:00

ah yes

cheerios dry like concrete dont they

pneumatic drill required to remove them

misdee · 11/01/2006 16:03

i have a padded mothercare huge plastic thing, its a nightmare to clean. not even a hoover gets into the cracks to clean it, i have to shove a knife down thw sides to clean it. how i long for a tripp trapp.......

Bozza · 11/01/2006 16:14

Ah misdee that is the one that my DN is now using. I passed it on last June and did spend quite some time with it out in the garden getting it into a reasonably acceptable state.

fennel · 11/01/2006 16:33

Mrs D, i was probably speaking theoretically - it should be easy to clean. other people have clean ones .

nice chairs anyway...

pacinoFanOfBrusselsSprouts · 11/01/2006 16:38

We had a Chicco Mamma huge affair, padded, nightmare to clean and I spent way too long in the kitchen trying to sanitise it. We sold it on Ebay (yes really, can vividly remember dh carrying huge parcel into post office swearing 'never again!!). Now have the no-frills basic white one from Ikea, love it. Though will have to buy a padded insert for new baby soon.

I think highchairs are a bit like pushchairs really in that we are all in danger of spending too much time researching them and way too much financing them (certainly applies in our household anyway).

Bagpuss30 · 11/01/2006 16:42

Ours is a sparkling brand new Tripp Trapp which we bought two weeks ago for ds2. I previously had an M&P one which was not only hideous but also very hard to clean - I used to use a steam cleaner to get the welded on breakfast cereal off . Glad I no longer have to do that .

misdee · 11/01/2006 16:43

should've just got the ikea 15quid jobby. was tempted to buy the other day they are so simple to clean.
