Got a Mothercare one with WHITE (why God why?)straps that are non removable and white for a week, clean it after every use then hoover nooks and crannies every few days but it is still rank. As DD hates being in it now it may be having a little holiday to the shed and staying there.

Tripp Trapp - yum (does Homer style drooling)!

NewYearsRacerLution · 11/01/2006 16:47

nailpolish - I knew before I clicked the link that it would be the same as mine!! I love the look of it and it doesn't take up much space but the straps are a real PITA, I agree. Wiping up in general isn't too bad though and DD was self-feeding from 6m (now 7m) so it gets very, very messy!

Around this time of day (before tea), it is cleanish on the tray but there could be all sorts lurking on the seat. I'll give it a good clean after tea usually - that just means wiping down with baby wipes though. No Dettox in sight.

Misdee is that the simple wooden one at ikea? If so that is the one we got to keep at MIL's house to use when we are there. One BIG problem with it ias that the legs really splay out and we all constantly trip over them when trying to manouever around the table.

misdee · 11/01/2006 17:08

i meant this one

chicagomum · 11/01/2006 17:15

Oh no, that's not the one I meant, although the legs splay out in the same way.

cathyspam · 11/01/2006 17:15

mine is all plastic and hideous looking but quite easy to clean, however i don't really clean it very religiously - wipe the tray over and sweep the crumbs off the seat!

chicagomum · 11/01/2006 17:23

this is the one i meant highchair

Hulababy · 11/01/2006 17:34

We have a Tripp Trapp and it is really clean. We wipe it down with an antibacterial tyepe wipe after each meal. Give it a proper clean every once in a while. I find it really easy to keep clean and tidy.

FrumpyGrumpy · 11/01/2006 17:36

I HATE HIGHCHAIRS!! THEY HATE ME!! They are all the daleks of the real world.

I have two from M'care, the cheapy wooden thing with tray and one of them is on its second round. They are as clean as I can get them (DTs have taken over the 'feeding') but the plastic seats are coming to bits now. I refuse to buy any posh ones because they all end up smeared in caked on bits of food mixed with yoghurt and the harnesses NEVER COME OFF TO WASH!

I actually love highchairs. They are a real marker of progress.

I will have a symbolic torchlight burning ceremony when we part.

FrumpyGrumpy · 11/01/2006 17:38

Ooooh, wudya look at that, the bar just put its lights on!

Blondeinlondon · 11/01/2006 17:38

I have a wooden one, the harness doesn't come off
It is gross

motherinferior · 11/01/2006 17:38

Ours was always unspeakably filthy whatever we tried, and then fell to bits.

bundle · 11/01/2006 17:41

we have a tripp trapp and it's relatively clean..the bit where the leather between-the-legs strap is, is a bit icky though

madmarchhare · 11/01/2006 17:42

Threw it away last week, hooray!!!!!! - It was minging.

FrumpyGrumpy · 11/01/2006 17:44

Congratulations MadMarch, see, a real progress monitor!

p.s.

fastasleep · 11/01/2006 17:45

I thought ours was yellow... until DH took it upon himself one day to scrape all the porridge off... it's white

Hazellnut · 11/01/2006 18:18

wooden one here too, which looks classically simple... but covered in gunk and the straps don't come off either - although this thread has prompted me to see if they would and they could be unscrewed.... but think that might be going a bit too far !

Mine is minging, I would need a chisel to remove some of the dried on food

With DS I had the wooden highchair that turns into a table and a chair but I threw it out when he had done with it. DD has the chair that straps to a normal chair and that will be thrown out before it is ever cleaned.

If I have another I will do the same, buy cheap and throw away.

mummymojo · 11/01/2006 22:18

I'm sure you will think this is really gross - but I now let the dog 'clean' all the food up off the highchair - he can't reach the tray but eats all the bits off the seat & straps.

I know it's disgusting and I promise I wipe it afterwards with an antiseptic wipe! - well us busy mum's have to take all the help we can get!

eidsvold · 12/01/2006 03:47

mine isn't too bad but need to get the toothbrush to the straps as they can't come off. Just spray with orange oil cleanser and then hose it down - gets all the bit off no worries. ( once a week) wipe it down with warm soapy water and sponge everyday.

IamBlossom · 12/01/2006 11:05

I HATE my highchair. It's an enormous monster from mothercare that cost £100 plus so i thought it must be a good one. Our kitchen is too small for it to live in there all the time so have to move it in and out of the dining room, but it has no handles to pull it with and no wheels to be pulled along on, so invariably i stub my toe or break a finger nail moving the damn thing. The straps are totally grossarama, although I manage to keep the tray clean - what's the point by the way of having a top tray that comes off so that you can clean it with a bottom tray underneath so kids can stay in chair and play with something? Their hands and arms are usually covered in Weetabix so then you end up with two trays to clean! Why did I think that was so cool before I bought it???
