What activities are you doing between Christmas and New Year?

Feeling guiltily as if we are wasting these golden days of holiday instead of making the most of them. What are other people doing with their kids? Events? Activities? WEnt to Ikea today and really felt that this was Not On.

I'm in London btw.

worshipping at the temple of mammon as well

and a trip to the new Wagamamas in MK yesterday

Blandmum · 29/12/2005 16:47

The kids have been out in the snow the last two days, part on their own building snow men etc in the garden, part with the dsds with sleds etc.

Know what you mean. All other holidays we tend to get away, nothing posh, usualy camping, so I'm not used to having this much time in the house with the kids. Too cold to go out much here.

fastasleep · 29/12/2005 16:48

Too cold for outdoorsy stuff, I also have the excuse of a not quite 3 month old DD who's just had an op and I'm expressing milk all the time.. DS is having lots of fun with his christmas pressies though I don't think you need to actively do things in the christmas holidays, I suppose it depends o the age of your kids though!

thecattleareALOHing · 29/12/2005 16:50

I think ds is having a nice time really, but I feel I'm wasting my time rather. Can't quite put my finger on it really. Dh and I are going out tonight though, which is rather thrilling.

well today we braved the January sales thi morning, had lunch, then ds had a 3 hour nap (lovely!) and now we're waiting for dh to come home so I go go to the pub with the girls

Hulababy · 29/12/2005 17:05

We have been really busy, but having fun and still more to come!.

Boxing Day (Monday) we had my parents, PILs, and brothers/sisters round (12 of us in all). DD enjoyed showing off all her new presents to them all.

Tuesday we had a friend and his DS round to play and for lunch. Also another couple of friends popped round for a drink. And then we went out for dinner at friends who live round the corner, with their 3yo DD.

Yesterday we went to my parents (my brother, sister and her boyfriend there too) for tea.

Today I went and got my new car and then we have been into town for lunch and a walk. The sales were pretty sdire here by now, although got DD a nice outfit. DH and DD got their hair cut, and we finally got DD a sledge.

Tomorrow we are visiting DH's auntie and cousin for a 50th birthday celebration. Then back to PILs and staying over - so we can drink all their wine for a change

Then New Year's Eve my parents, PIL and also friends and their 2 DDs are coming round. Parents/PIls are staying over.

sledging (if snow arrives !) tomorrow, friend over for sleepover on new Years eve (her DD and DS are same as mine, 4 and 2) as, surprise surprise Dh is gigging with his band on New Years eve (7th year on the tro, should be used to it by now) Friends over to join sleepover lot on New years day, lunch, walks etc..... in the meantime, buckaroo (DD fave pressie) eating, thunderbirds, eating, drawing and colouring, eating........hmmm seems a familiar theme here :0

thecattleareALOHing · 29/12/2005 17:18

Ha! Ds doesn't do walks. Shame really.

I also went to Ikea and managed to get home and find that one lamp I bought wasn't in the boot (some swine must have swiped it while I was trying to load the car)

We have been to the park, played Junior Monopoly - kids have done loads of colouring and general house destroying. These few days do feel a bit odd.

ParrupupumScum · 29/12/2005 17:54

Went swimming today but haven't really done much else since Xmas. So jealous of everyone who has snow.

Blondeinlondon · 29/12/2005 17:56

Just got back from seeing the inlaws so spending the next few days doing laundry

trice · 29/12/2005 17:59

working - and getting loads done without distractions. The kids are watching tv and eating chcolate and not getting out of their pjs all day.

tigermoth · 29/12/2005 18:08

Going to see kids club films (adults go free) at the local cinema. Already seen Polar Express and soon to see Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Also seeing The Narnia film (full price)

At the moment I am working, writing letters(the ones I don't send before christmas, people now know to expect my news after christmas). Also phoning old friends for catch up chats.

Went in search of snow with the boys, found it in Canterbury

Might take youngest ds to Godstone Farm on Monday if it is open. If not, maybe the coast.

About to do a homework round up, to see what 11 year old needs to complete (vaguely know there's a Roman mask to make before next Tuesday) and practising some stuff with youngest son.

Keeping well away from shops as I can't afford anything more!

BudaBabeInAManger · 29/12/2005 18:43

Well my family left yesterday evening so today we chilled a bit, sorted out DS's playroom (now have a little pile of bits to post to my Sis!).

Tomorrow we fly to UK to spend New Year with some friends. Then on Monday DS and I head to MIL's for a few days. So it will be socialising and shopping and just pottering about.

merrySOAPBOXingday · 29/12/2005 18:58

Just be flipping happy you haven't got a holiday diary to complete - just had a massive run in with DS over the first day of his - and he has to do at least 5 days [weeping emotion]!

I like the hanging out thing as do the children, in fact we've deliberately tried not to schedule too much, although it's a bu**er in terms of DS's holiday diary - there's only so much hanging out you can write about

tigermoth · 29/12/2005 19:20

oh no, I live in dread of holiday diaries - what a pain. Ok if you have the sort of child who loves writing by themselves, but if you don't its parents' homework!

fairyjay · 29/12/2005 19:30

Spent quite a lot of time with family and friends, and the rest of the time doing NOTHING!!!

Wonderful - I just want more time with nothing scheduled!

tegan · 29/12/2005 20:21

DH worked yesterday, today and tomorrow and I will be in all day tomorrow waiting for our christmas present to arrive. A brand spanking new flat screen HD ready sony 50 inch tv to be delivered.

HaveYourselfAKnottyLittleXmas · 29/12/2005 20:30

Decorating.

Have to make the most of DH's holiday!
