My dd1 is in reception at a lovely little village C of E school. They break for half term today, about a month ago a memo came out to say today would be "seasonal fancy dress" I checked with teacher and confirmed that they meant halloween but just couldn't say it because it's a Cof E school. So this morning I sent my daughter into school in her favourite halloween costume which happens to be a cute little devil costume. A red body suit with flamey wings and a hat with horns and little forked tail.

Apparently there was another memo last week to say that they had changed fancy dress to "help for hero's day" so kids could come in a costume of someone or something they thought was thier hero. As i'm getting dd out of the car it's dawning on me that were surrounded by soldiers, firemen, policemen, nurses, vets, doctors and superheroes.

I have sent my dd to her first fancy dress day in her new Cof E school for hero worship day dressed as the devil. If the floor had opened and swallowed me up right then and there i would have been happy. Even the head came over to say "don't worry I gather the devil isn't her hero"

Oh my. Way to make your mark!

nutella I have no idea why the memo didn't cross my path. Either I missed it or forgot it (30 wk pregnant baby brains means this is entirely possible), DH read it, then it was recycled and he forgot to tell me or it never made it home in her book bag.

Making a mental note of what not to do once the kids start school.

Or what to do on a bored day at least!

SardineQueen · 21/10/2011 10:47

Hahahhahahahahahhaahha brilliant!

I do feel for you though. And DD.

We got a very po-faced leaflet back from DDs school (CofE) about No Thanks to trick or treat. It said it was on safety grounds but then I noticed the leaflet was produced by an evangelical group and suddenly twigged!

SkeletonNails · 21/10/2011 10:47

Oh dear. Just had to explain to my boss why he nearly got covered in my coffee .... lets just say that I didn't admit to being on here

Let's just say that he found it as funny as we all have and has come up with some ideas for your dh when he picks her up this afternoon [hgrin]

SephreniaRidesABroomstick · 21/10/2011 11:08

YammerHouseOfHorror · 21/10/2011 11:09

Grin That is funny.

shonnomanom · 21/10/2011 11:10

Oh fish poor you and your dd! I hope the other kids don't give her too much hassle. Although your family will never live it down.

Anychance dh never told you about on purpose? I wouldn't want him to feel left out on the family humiliation, don't tell him. [hgrin]

Really need to stop chuckling. It's totally something I would do too [hgrin]

VeronicaSpeedwell · 21/10/2011 11:11

Your DH should definitely wear some kind of swirling 'ceremonial' cloak to pick her up. A spot of dry ice would complete the effect.

nickschic · 21/10/2011 11:16

My friend new to this country and our bizarre way with words sent her ds into school dressed as spiderman complete with face mask, the suit was for a average aged 6 child he was 11 Grin and rather chunky - the rest of the kids just looked Shock as he walked into assembly proudly ......The deputy head nearly swallowed his tongue stifling his laughter ......my friend was from Poland and mistook own clothes for super hero clothes Grin.....her English is now perfect and she Blush like mad when I remind her of it Grin.
