In my local town there is such a thing as a "Man-Creche" where husbands/partners/boyfriends can be left so he can drink soft bevergaes, watch widescreen tv or play on a playstation until his partner gets back from traipsing round doing the Christmas shopping.

I mean.

Or is it just me?

Bet they love it. If they only being dragged along for thier credit card then why not?

OnZephyrstDayofXmas · 13/12/2005 18:51

Seriously??????!!!!

charlietherednosedpussy · 13/12/2005 18:52

Better than the pub. It means you can then do something after.

QueensSpeechEagle · 13/12/2005 18:53

Yep seriously. It's advertised on my local radio station.

i'm not sure you can patronise men, can you

TurqtheHeraldAngelsSing · 13/12/2005 18:53

That is w*nky - but I seriously do not understand why women drag men out shopping, ever.
Why do they take them into clothes shops, why why why? I mean women's clothes shops obviously.

TheFish · 13/12/2005 18:53

so why do the men bother going at all

TheFish · 13/12/2005 18:54

havent htey got grouting to do??

MistletAero · 13/12/2005 18:54

rofl - tbh, dh would much rather be there than shopping. He hates shopping as much as I hate cricket (his passion). Would prefer a beer though!

charlietherednosedpussy · 13/12/2005 18:54

Im guessing so they can pay for the clothes once they have picked them THAS

followthestarlover · 13/12/2005 18:55

yeah if they don't wanna go round the shops then why don't they stay at home and get some housework done ffs.

colditz · 13/12/2005 18:55

Being a man being dragged around clothes shops would be how I feel being dragged around dixons and Virgin... for hours!

Meanoldmummy · 13/12/2005 19:04

Just showed this to DH, he went all starry-eyed like a kid watching a Disneyworld ad! How do you patronise a creature like that? Bless his big horrible smelly cotton socks.

hana · 13/12/2005 19:06

this is actually quite a big thing in retail planning
dh worked on bluewater years ago and the 'male creche' was done there - or at least was planned for, also the stores are all grouped according to interest, there will be a clump of male type stores in same area

BadHair · 13/12/2005 19:18

Thought a man-creche was called a pub? That's where I leave mine - keeps him safe till I get back, bless him.

colditz · 13/12/2005 19:19

Mine would love to be left playing playstation while I shopped.

Mind you, I would love to sit and play playstation while he shopped.....

fisiltoe · 13/12/2005 19:22

Can they do a lady creche too? I get dragged to the shops every time dp wants to go because he doesn't like driving!

Blondeinlondon · 13/12/2005 20:06

They used to have this in topshop at ox circus
I left my bro there once and came out in the trousers i was trying on
"what do you think" - I asked him
bro - "the top looks nice"
"I was wearing that when I went in!"
cue looks of fear from all other creches dwellers trying to recall what their birds were wearing when they entered the changing room

Blondeinlondon · 13/12/2005 20:06

Personally I think the men should be at home minding the kids

OhlittletownofEIDSVOLD · 14/12/2005 08:41

if I have to suffer christmas shopping so does dh!!

Chloe55 · 14/12/2005 09:32

I think it's a fantastic idea - my DH hates shopping but I like him to come with me to help carry bags/pay and what not This way I could take the credit card and just keep popping back in to give him bags to look after and I don't get him moaning.

feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 09:36

I want a Woman Creche where I can chill out and have free soft drinks in the middle of shopping. Honestly!

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 14/12/2005 09:46

I would be handy for me in the larger towns, my dp loathes shopping of any kind, but I hate driving in really congested areas, so I'm often asking him to drive me to and fro. I'm sure he'd be happy to stay though if tempted with a playstation game.

suedonim · 14/12/2005 15:37

There was a men-creche in our M&S last year and very well patronised it was, too. Must be something to do with the free nibbles and whisky being handed out! There was juice for the children, as well, and lots of M&S gadgets and toys to play with as well as tv.

I don't have any objections to them. I may want dh to be with me while shopping for some things but want to shop alone for other items so having somewhere to park your man and child is okay by me.

PruniStuffing · 14/12/2005 15:43

I don't object to the idea so much as the name.

Though shopping is a bloody chore so why should he get all the perks?
