Am I hopelessly out of touch re makeup for small girls?

A friend has bought my dd a makeup set for her 5th Birthday. She has a dd the same age, so I'm assuming that she thinks 5 year olds wearing makeup is fine and normal. I don't, but am quite happy to be persuaded otherwise if I am an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy.

And if you think 5 is too young, at what age would you think it was OK?

my dd is 14 and has only just started to wear makeup on special occassions ie disco.

she doesn't wear it to school but some girls her age do.

she used to play with it as a small child in a dress up kind of way.

Five is far too young. Yuck.

Fourteenish I think.

I found that the best approach was to let her have a tiny bit and be very explicit that she was only to wear it indoors for dressing up. She immediately lost interest once she actually had some.
