DC's Manly suggestion for DH/DP presents

DaddyCool · 09/11/2005 16:42

aahh tis the season and as always, I will harrass you all with my whisky suggestions.

check this site out. it's a whisky sales site specialising in old/rare or just generally nice whiskies.

if your man is a whisky drinker he'll probably appreciate edradour. this is featured on the front page smack dab in the middle.

as far as i know YOU CAN'T BUY THIS IN THE SHOPS. It would make a very nice present for a hardened whisky drinker who appreciates the finest.

It's just a standard 10yr old malt but it's rather special (see the write up)

If i was to get this for christmas, I would have to change my pants after opening it.

PMSL at changing your pants

WigWamBam · 09/11/2005 16:44

Oooh, dh is a big whisky fan, thanks for the link.

The idea of dh having to change his pants if he got this for Christmas is a bit worrying though ...

He was bad enough when I got him a bottle of Dailuaine a couple of years back!

DaddyCool · 09/11/2005 16:49

ooh! nice!

dh's favourite

iota · 09/11/2005 16:53

(buy at airports duty-free)

WigWamBam · 09/11/2005 16:53

I thought it tasted like drain cleaner but hey, I'm a girly, what do I know? And I didn't waste any of his; I tried a free sample at the distillery. Three guesses who finished it?

He'd been doing some project management for them so we were invited on a tour of the distillery, and I couldn't really leave the place without buying a bottle of the stuff, now could I?

DaddyCool · 09/11/2005 16:54

what, the sherry?

I like dalwhinnie whisky but it's a bit mild. I like strong smoky bold whiskies. My very favourite out of the standard 10 - 15 yr olds is Talisker. It's my trade mark poison.

it's so smokey that dw thinks i smell like i've been smoking after drinking it.

yup. i get mine duty free when i'm on business and i save a fortune. i also like the big hefty litre bottles. they make my mouth water.

quite like talisker - dh had a thing about working his way through the 6 clasic malts once (did a lot of business travel) but my fave is Dalwhinnie

DaddyCool · 09/11/2005 16:59

i got dalwhinnie for xmas a few years ago and yes, it's a lovely smooth one.

OP posts:
slug · 09/11/2005 17:53

Daddy have you tried the double matured Talisker? All the flavour and the rough edges smoothed off. (Homer Simpson drool emoticon)

DaddyCool · 09/11/2005 19:56

I can't afford the double matured stuff! but I would certainly like to try it.

thanks DC for the info for the FIL - apparently he's a grouse (sp) man?? - what ever that means? lol.

DH was after getting him the 30 year bottle - but given the price I highly doubt it! lol.

here!

Rhubarb · 09/11/2005 21:39

Tequila bottle with the worm in it.

aloha · 09/11/2005 21:43

I've just ordered it for dh! I loathe whisky so a/he will realise this is a v selfless present and b/he'd better like it!

Thanks

TicTacsMum · 09/11/2005 21:54

This is a really bizarre thread for me. My dad was a distillery manager and managed Dalwhinnie when I was born. I lived there until I was 4 and much later on he managed Dailuaine Distillery. Before I was born he worked at Talisker!

My dad would say that Glen Elgin is the best but it's all down to personal taste.

DaddyCool · 10/11/2005 08:52

bump.

hmmm.. never tried glen elgin.

Have you tried Laphroaig DC? Thats DH's fave, am going to get him a nice one of those a quarter cask or 15 year - haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the idea. Got to look for some other bits for him now.

xx

DaddyCool · 10/11/2005 16:48

yes. i quite like Laphroaig. It's quite bold and peaty as far as i can remember. it's a popular one.
