I am feeling very upset today, as i went to a play group at the brentwood center and my 14 month old dd likes to wander around and occasionally she will go say hello to the mummys sitting around. Which i don't see as a problem as often i get little ones coming up to me with books or toys etc. But this mum took one look at my dd and told her to 'go away'. Me being the wimp i am just picked up my dd and took her away and the mums sat there and giggled. Why do i feel like crying? how can any mum being so hrrid to another child? and why the hell didn't i tell her to f* off ??????

Sorry no I don't really see anyone at all anymore. I'm not sure if I was that popular, well no I wasn't so I guess I wouldn't really see anyone anymore. I've got two nephews and a neice at Hedley (or whatever it's called) ad a nephew at Pilgrims Hatch (ditto), so the next generation is there.

ElliesMad · 08/11/2005 23:38

Yes nice talking to you too. And two Lawrence Ward's? within a couple of years aswell. Speak soon.

mmmmchocolate · 08/11/2005 23:39

My dd1 is incredibly friendly and believes saying hello to everyone is just what you do no matter where you are... she also happens to have down syndrome so we get some who actually bother to say hello and interact with her and others who look at her like she has a contagious disease and pull away. I generally say to her - come on dd1, not everyone is as friendly and as polite as you. They don't want to say hello. Then move her away.

Wearing wellies to a soft play centre - how bizarre. I do know what you are talking about though - used to live in Westcliff-on-Sea - the wrong side of the London road and had others look down their nose at me... suddenly I became acceptable to one mother when we moved to a village outside Chelmsford. However she still could not bring herself to speak to me when she found out I taught school in Basildon.

TBH to me - people who can't be polite and friendly to small children who are simply saying hello really aren't worth the time of day.

bobbybob · 09/11/2005 05:08

My bugbear is taking Bob to the library during family time - which is when they put on the grumpy 20 year old librarian who appears to have an immense dislike of children. She has never said go away or worn shiny wellies though - that is a whole new league.

ElliesMad · 09/11/2005 11:49

What year is your brother in Lianna?
And yes I did wonder about wellies in a soft play centre?????

hovely · 09/11/2005 11:55

perhaps she was wearing wellies because her bunions and horrible witchy feet were giving her gyp

ElliesMad · 09/11/2005 13:30

I like that description. I'm now picturing a woman with bunion plasters!

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 14:02

Evil witch!

Next time steal up all your courage and give her a mouthful. I guarantee it will make you feel better and will give you 'closure'

I normally let rip at offenders...on the odd occasion when I have said nothing I have brooded over it for ages afterwards.

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 14:03

"I generally say to her - come on dd1, not everyone is as friendly and as polite as you. They don't want to say hello. Then move her away."

Snap Eisvoid. I've said almost exactly the same thing before word for word

bosscat · 09/11/2005 14:24

what a cow.

you should definitely say something to her next week. I like all of Moondogs suggestions.

post and let us know what you did.

saadia · 09/11/2005 14:37

She sounds really nasty. I can totally understand how you feel mmmmchoc, unfortunately there are a lot of people like her in the world but we have all been given some good ideas for resonses if anything like this happens again. Try to forget about it, don't let her nastiness and rudeness ruin your day.

mmmmchocolate · 10/11/2005 21:04

feel alot better about it now and don't care she is a nobody to me and not worth worring about and i will say something if poppy goes near her next week!!!

elliesmad = my brother is in upper 6th now??
