Anyone in their right mind doesn't bid on an ebay item until the last few minutes!

gigglinggoblin · 01/11/2005 20:58

unless they are branded it might be better to sell them in bundles. you will make less per item but have a higher chance of selling them all and you can save on listing fees.

i find that clothes rarely get bids more than a few hours before they end. there is so much stuff on there that people cant be bothered to trawl through it all. you might find the bidding goes mad with 10 minutes to go

Mum2OneAndBump · 01/11/2005 21:00

I don't think thats true i have 40 items on ebay at the moment and all but a few are bid on and they have from 17hrs to 4 days left on them,
Do you have watchers? people do seem to bid from the hr mark but i think it depends on what your selling and at what price you start them at i always start things at 0.99p

Gem13 · 01/11/2005 21:00

Could you try and sell them through an NCT sale instead? Usually less hassle.

to add extra pics for free put them on something like photobucket and click on html tips (under the box you write the item description in) for instructions how to put them on. very easy.

small bundles can sell well with 5 or 6 items rather than putting all your items together. i have also noticed some sellers list postage as less than the actual cost because that can put people off. put in a higher starting bid to make up the shortfall

Lonelymum · 01/11/2005 21:18

I do a lot of selling at NCT sales. You have to remember though that the NCT takes at least 25% commission usually. and there is a lot of initial work laeblling your items. Hang on and I will try to find you a website where you can see if there is a sale in your area.

Lonelymum · 01/11/2005 21:19

Any of these near you?

Pam70 · 01/11/2005 21:24

If you're happy for some of the clothes to go for between 50p and £1, you could try carbooting. I did a car boot several weeks ago and sold some clothes there (along with lots of household stuff).

I've also tried Ebay-ing and find it quite a hassle running out to the Post Office for one or two items 3 or 4 days a week. IMHO, it does seem to work better for designer items.

laughinglil · 01/11/2005 21:25

whats your ebay name that way we can advise you on where you may be going wrong? if u don't mind me asking

Mum2OneAndBump · 01/11/2005 21:33

Alot of mine are BNWT and all next so maybe thats why, by saying the hr mark i mean the last hour. What are you selling is it branded names?

its an online photo album, like picturetrail. you can get basic accounts for free with them. i use photobucket because the tag line you need to put in the description is right there under the photo, easy to find. here . to transfer photos you just click on the button and then it goes to browse your files - i am rubbish with tech but even i can do this so you shouldnt have a problem

no, put one piccie on with ebay. i think you want the line labelled as tag under the photo on photobucket and you basically just click copy and paste into the description box and it appears in amongst the writing, where ever you put it. when you are writing item description, click on html tips. it has instructions on there which are probably easier to follow than mine!

Hi lisalisa, in the same boat myself. I have tried to sell a couple of bundles, all good stuff and popular brands, very well photographed with links to our website for bigger pics, but no luck .

Bidding starts at 99p and I ask £5 postage cos it's quite a lot of stuff.

I see very similar type bundles going for £20+, so I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I'm going to try once more then give up, I reckon.

heavenis · 02/11/2005 13:59

Hi lisalisa
I've sold a few items on ebay and the the things I would recommend

Start low (no reserve)

Keep postage to a minimum (people like to think they are getting a bargin)

Put it on a 3 day listing and if it's not selling increase to 7 days

Be careful on what day and time your bidding will end (people just don't bid at 8.00am on a saturday morning)

Make offers like only 80p postage per extra item

People don't bid until the last minute as they want the cheapest price possible.

Good Luck

SecondhandRose · 02/11/2005 14:01

You could try your local paper.

Lisa I had a look and none of the info about the clothes have ages on them.

heavenis · 02/11/2005 15:59

I would just say that ending them last or very early in the morning.
Saturdays people are often doing other things rather than looking on ebay.
You need to put as much detail about item your selling too.

teeavee · 02/11/2005 16:07

ages on the description is v important
brands that seem to sell v well are designer ones like jean bourget, oilily, catimini

also mini boden and gap stuff sells fairly well

with some of the bundles, it appears obvious that there are a couple of good makes among a whole load of cheap T shirts that you're probably never going to use.
I would say that matching 'outfits' of 2-3 items would fetch more, as people wouold be able to scrutinise all the items properly before bidding

eleanorsmum · 02/11/2005 17:02

Just looked at your items and there does not seem to be clear sizing on items. I buy and sell a bit and never bother to look at stuff with no size in description as there is so much to look at.

Also, watchers will bid you'll be suprised. I listed some dresses the other week and no-one bid till the last hour (fri about 5pm) and then it went mad - got £10+ for them all (BNWT)

hope this helps.

Mum2OneAndBump · 02/11/2005 17:18

I would say you need to add thr size to the description & i also put the size in the main title when people are searching for items, Also i would maybe offer 2nd class postage is well at a cheap rate as people dont like high postage,
