Me and mother-in-law had stand up argument because she was in a mood (not sure what about). She refused to join us for Xmas lunch. DH went ballistic, we all ended up in tears at the same time.

Evenutally we did have lunch together but it was a terrible, strained affair.

wallopyCOD · 25/10/2005 14:43

I also hate all those bloody reindeer horns and santa hats and glittery fairy wands etc etc

QueenVictoria · 25/10/2005 14:44

oh ok.

moondog · 25/10/2005 14:47

QV,that's a lovely story.
I agree teeavee, done a few French Christmases ad they're shite.
After stuffing at some ungodly hour on Christmas Eve it's all over. (Arguably however celebrating the Millenium in Nantua was even worse.Looked out of the window on the stoke of midnight (sister lives in the centre of town) and all I could see was a dog having a piss and a solitary barfly lurching out of the only bar open.)

Party on eh???

goody2shoes · 25/10/2005 14:49

my parents nagged at me so much I ended up driving back to London and watching star trek on my own in my flat.

expatinscotland · 25/10/2005 14:50

I hate those fking dancing Xmas tress, snowmen, Santa, etc.

They frightened the hell out of DD last year. They frighten me b/c they're so naff.

swedishmum · 25/10/2005 14:50

Lasy year both sets of parents came to stay with us in our 3 bed rented apartment in Stockholm - for a whole week. We were already full up with our 4 children. The parents have nothing in common except the ability to wind me up. I spent the week on a blow up bed, and felt like chief redcoat/ UN peacemaker for the entire week. We went out once while they babysat to find out mum had turned off ds's new DVD of Troy because it was "far too sexy and violent".

I kid you not!
My granny died right in the middle of christmas dinner (when I was 15) !

Hopefully it'll be hard to top that one - although the year we had the outlaws to stay and his mother behaved so badly that he told them to bugger off home, came pretty close!!!!

wallopyCOD · 25/10/2005 14:52

Was so drunk at the Millinneum I don't remember it at all.

moondog · 25/10/2005 15:02

soapbox,so did my uncle!
(Not at the table however,he'd come upstairs for a lie down because he felt unwell and boy was he unwell!!!!!!)

There followed a fraught afternoon of desperate relatives attempting mtm resucitation, ambulances, and undertakers,as we were leaving,my sister kissed his newly bereaved wife and said

'Happy Christmas Aunty!!!'

Miaou · 25/10/2005 15:06

moondog, not really funny I know but I'm rofl at your sister!!!!!!!!!!!

moondog · 25/10/2005 15:07

Oh don't worry,I'm laughing remembering it!
We all do (apart from bereaved wife obviously!)

last year was my worst one for a while. i started been ill on the 17th dec & got worse each day by christmas day i had pulled a muscle in my side with coughing i could hardly talk & could not taste a thing,& to make me feell worst still we had payed £80 to go out for christmas lunch with family, all i wanted to do was go to bed!lets hope this one is better.

CountessDracula · 25/10/2005 15:32

Oh god it was a couple of years ago, I had Glandular Fever, DH slipped a disc, had MASSIVE row with entire family on Boxing Day

nailpolish · 25/10/2005 15:34

me and dh had just started 'going out' and he was wanting to move in with me, 2 hrs away from his parents who he at the time lived 5 mins from

(apparently i stole him!)

to get in their good books we accepted an invitation to theirs for xmas day

i got there and it was really formal. they all stood up when i went in the room. they shook my hand. i was offered a glass of coke or lemonade (!) i asked if there was any vodka to go in it and i got an icy response.

we all sat down to lunch. i had to do the dishes while they all sat in the lounge watching telly then eventually falling asleep! when dh and i had finished the dishes we went through to the lounge and there was frogs chorus of snoring.

it was absolutely horrendous, ive never seen anything like it in my life

so we went up to his old bedroom for a shag. we were well into the swing of things and his dads dog walked in, a yappie thing, and barked at us until we stopped, waking everyone up

to this day i dont think they knew, they are so prudish it would never cross their minds
