We are thinking about moving to Parkstone and we are having problems picking an area.

IUt must be family friendly (i am a childminder and need to be near the young new families that are going back to work) and near good schools(primary and state nursery not privateschools or nurseries).

We have seen some big 4 bed house in the worrell drive and Kimmeridge Avenue and would like to know a bit more about it. Can anyone help? Any help much apprecaited.

Thanks

there's quite a sizeable regular Bournemouth contingent, just keep nagging until somebody pays attention to you!

We went on hols there 4 months ago, that's why it sticks in mind (we don't go on hols often ).

Hi jellyjelly.

I used to live in Parkstone as a kid and very near to the two roads you mention. To be honest with you it wouldn't be a place that I would rush to move to personally. It was quite a nice area when we lived there about 10 years ago but it has become quite a rough area now.

Kittypickle · 16/10/2005 22:20

I haven't got a map close at hand so I'm not sure about the roads but thought I'd say that St. Joseph's should be avoided like the plague from what I've heard. Heatherlands is a good school.

jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 12:29

wHERE would you recommend then sparkle?

Hi JJ. I responded on the other thread to your original question. Lots of areas in Poole/Bournemouth are really nice, but I find it's quite hard to advise as what appeals to one person doesn't necessarily appeal to another. I'm in Broadstone, which is lovely. You could try Canford Heath or Upton. I have friends in both and they seem to like it. Did you specifically want Poole?

Merlin · 17/10/2005 18:07

Hi Jellyjelly - can't help you with Poole I'm afraid - I'm over the other side of bournemouth in Boscombe East (not to be confused with Boscombe!!) near Southbourne - it's lovely over here!!!! And some good schools too. Close to the beach and easy to get out of town to the Forest too.

Sirfurmum - have you seen the Mallett thread? are you coming Thurs night?

Sorry to hijack Jelly!

jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 18:10

Thats allright what is the difference then?

SirFurmum · 17/10/2005 18:14

Just seen your question on the other thread. Broadstone has really good schools, people move there to get their children into them. There's a sports centre, and loads of mother and baby groups, clubs and classes. We also have the best kebab shop in the world.

SirFurmum · 17/10/2005 18:19

Hi Merlin - yes I have, but I can't make it, I don't think dh will be in from work in time for me to come. He might be home as late as 9 .

Merlin · 17/10/2005 18:52

Not sure what the diference is - both areas have great things going for them. I think it's one of those things where you are either a Poole or Bournemouth person.

jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 19:30

THe criteria is about 180k, must have 3 beds, suitable for commute but not sure where too yet, and near lots of kids as i am a childminder and mustget work so must be a family area with good schools. Not much huh.

Merlin · 17/10/2005 19:40

mmmmmm - don't think your budget will get you want you want over Southbourne way (well not in a decent road).

Sorry not to be more positive - where are you at the mo? Have you looked at some local agent's websites to check house prices?

muppet73 · 17/10/2005 19:40

SirFurmum - I agree that broadstone and also Corfe Mullen next door is lovely - loads of good schools and definately in need of more childminders
Not that Im an expert on the housing market but I think you should be able to get aplace for what you want - have you tried looking on rightmove.co.uk to see whats available.

I love living in Dorset and there are loads of great places to live in Poole or Bournemouth.

Good Luck

muppet73 · 17/10/2005 19:42

corfe mullen houses

muppet73 · 17/10/2005 19:42

whoops dont think that worked

jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 19:55

Havwe been looking for the last month everyday at rightmove and calling agents but the trouble is all they want to do is sell house and not give much advice. Keep getting flats and properties which are not suitable at all. Will keep looking it is very hard trying to suss new areas as we live in Reading so really quite different. Have looked at lots of area on paper and have been told to avoid the following

West/east Howe
Kinson and winton because it is so near
Herber Road
Townsend
hamowrthy

a few others but i cant remember what other places.

jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 19:59

What si creekmoor like? is it the same area?

OP posts:
jellyjelly · 17/10/2005 20:03

Waterloo was the other one i was told to avoid.

OP posts:
muppet73 · 17/10/2005 20:04

Creekmoor is nice but again as Sirfurmum has already said "I find it's quite hard to advise as what appeals to one person doesn't necessarily appeal to another" Couldn't you spend some time down here on holiday and see what areas you like?
