We've got one 18 month ds and I doubt we'll spend more than £30 as he'll get so much from grandparents.

OP posts:
gigglinggoblin · 16/10/2005 13:47

ds1 & 2 are 5 & 6 so maybe £80ish each - tho i cannot decide whether or not to buy ds1 the electric train set he really wants. if thats the case his will be more like £130.not sure if i should feel bad about ds2 getting less spent on him, but there is nothing that big that he would like as much so it would just be wasteful.

ds3 is 1 so will get about £30 - 40. last year he was 7 months and got about £20 spent. he spent most of the morning eating the wrapping paper anyway

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 14:02

lol at eating the wrapping paper!!

magnolia1 · 16/10/2005 14:36

I don't know!!! Dh wants to get DT1 a new bike but it's £80 and that will be just 1 prezzie. There isn't anything big that her twin wants (she doesn't enjoy riding) they had a birthday in september so got big prezzies then.

DD4 is 10 so very into clothes and girlie stuff which isn't expensive and dd4 is 2 and still loves playing with the boxes

I think I will buy a few nice prezzies and concentrate more on the spirit of Christmas like, church services, christmas carol services, decorating the house, rather than ut being a money thing!!

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 14:43

Too right magnolia - I'm going to enjoy taking them to the christingle service, going to the school fair, having everyone round on Xmas day - it's not all about how big the pile of pressies is.

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 16/10/2005 15:27

£100 each, the amount was established way before present discussions began. That works out as five gifts each, with what they want. They don't get gifts other than Birthdays or Christmas though.

So far DS1 wants an electronics set from yellow Moon, Dad is an electronics whizz kid so I am keen as they'll enjoy that together; DS2 wants a set of wibble building cog things also from yellow Moon, and a puppet theatre fromearly learning. DS3 gets a Thomas Set.

yellow Moon is win-win as the school gets 10% of the order value.

We weren't going to spend very much as she's just turned 2 but today we saw a gorgeous wooden mini house thing for the garden which was £195.

So the original plan has gone a bit wrong.

troutpout · 16/10/2005 19:33

Around 60-80 quid each...(depending on what it is)

Hulababy · 16/10/2005 19:59

Around £100 on DD, age 3yo.

Frizbe · 16/10/2005 20:08

Crikey, think I need to get dh to cut down on what he thinks we're going to spend looking at this thread! (although ss has been very spoilt in the past!) I limited him to £200 for ss last year and £100 for dd, and he still managed to go out behind my back and spend another 50-80 on ss.....I'm now thinking 100-150 per kid max.....

Mum2OneAndBump · 16/10/2005 20:08

Probably around 100 but a sticking to the learning and arty stuff for ds as he loves it, hes 3, he has all the thomas train tracks and silly toys and he hardly gets them out.

marne · 16/10/2005 20:19

We try to spend no more than £100 on dd and the same for the tree step kids, but i could spend £200 on dd because theres so many nice things in the shops and i find it hard to stop myself, shes only 21 months.

expatinscotland · 16/10/2005 20:31

£100 - spread over about 5 months. DD is 2.3.

tegan · 16/10/2005 20:33

Both my girls get £100 each for xmas and £50 each for bithdays, just so it is fair

mumto4girls · 16/10/2005 20:38

hi
we try to keep to the £100 per dd too but the 2 yo is 3 between xmas and new year and the 4 y o is 5 straight after xmas --trading pressies for a joint birthday in jan to save money but is turning out more expensive!!!!
also baby's 1st christmas.

SirFurmum · 16/10/2005 20:41

Last year I spent £12 on dd and it all came from charity shops. I really didn't see any point as she was too you to understand what was going on. This year, she'll be 2.7 and I've bought her the half price kitchen in Toys R Us which was £30, the most we've ever spent on her, and I've got a few other bits for her stocking and will probably spend another £30.

Dsd will be 10 and she's getting a digital camera as a joint birthday/Christmas present, we normally spend about £100 on her in total for Christmas.

We also go away for a weekend to the Forest of Dean to see Santa at Clearwell Caves.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 16/10/2005 20:42

last year we pent about £20-30, mainly on books and crafty things, this year about the same (she is 2 btw).
for her birthday, nothing
she really does get a lot of stuff from friends, and relatives. we were opening presents until way into January.
yep, am tight

WickedWestCountryLass · 16/10/2005 20:48

I have spent £45 on DD and will spend the same on DS as am getting him some Thunderbirds stuff. My kids got far too much last year, DS played with the new stuff for 5 minutes and then went back to his favourites (trains).

I will do them a stocking but rather than getting expensive stuff I am going to put a selection box, some choccy money and some satsumas in there and leave it pretty much at that.

JoolsToo · 16/10/2005 20:50

Post Office Set - kids love em!

AuntyQuated · 16/10/2005 20:55

has this kicked off yet?

Bozza · 16/10/2005 21:39

No its all fairly calm. Actually I find that my DS plays with most of the things we get him so thats different to a lot of you. Last year we got him playmobil aeroplane (with airport for his birthday) and lego pirate ship, the year before we got him kids k'nex and an engine shed, the year before a figure of 8 track and Thomas. He has played with all of these this week. When he was a baby we bought him a shape sorter and a pushalong baby walker. DD plays with the shape sorter and her cousin now has the baby walker. So I feel its been worth spending the money.

Although looking back I can see that it has been getting progressively more expensive! This year's plan is a CD player (cheapish one) and some Star Wars stuff.

CuriousMama · 16/10/2005 21:48

Bought ds1 robosapien V2 (well it's on order) and refuse to buy anything else as that costs a lot. DS2 will get no more than £100. Family and friends buy for them and they end up with plenty. I must admit we've gone mad in the past but not this year.

jenkel · 16/10/2005 21:57

So far, in total on my 2 dd's about £170

Playmobil Noahs Ark
Snow White Cottage
Thomas Aquadraw
Snow White Dressing Up Dress
Pocohontas Dressing Up Dress
Various stocking fillers

Dh wants to get them a wooden castle, so may or may not got up. By the way there is only 17 months difference in their ages and at the moment we have given up buying for them individually until they are of an age where they know what they want, they all play with the same stuff.

staceym11 · 16/10/2005 22:03

all in all iv spent about £50 on dd for this xmas prob spent the same last xmas (she was 2mth) but brought things like clothes which i would have brought anyway! lol she will be 14mth this year and have got her a ride on etc. as she gets bigger will prob go up to about £100/£200 depending wether we have another one or not!

weesaidie · 16/10/2005 22:19

Hopefully £50, probably closer to £100. I aim to get her one nice toy and one nice outfit, also put some money into her trust fund. She is 18 months.

butty · 16/10/2005 22:28

My total on the kids is £279.89 altogether and that includes dylans bday on new years day!!!
Chloe always gets more, hers totals to £164.00 and the rest on dylan, although this year i am being good as it is all things that she can have in her bedroom and 2 things that we can do together!!!
Double dance mat (thought i might get fit!!!)
Oh and a karaoke machine and 3 disc set to go with it.(it will stop her recking my equipment!!!)
Also getting her that new laptop for kids in argos for £50.00 but 100 different games and learning programmes so thought that would be good eduacationally.
Dylan is getting baby guitar as he loves mine!!!
electronic bongos
Jigsaw set
Laptop

B'day. Train set
remote car
my first cd/dvd
and i have forgotten the other thing!!!

It is a big cut back from last year!!!

Then again, i always end up seeing other little bits and bats that tot up!!!!
