Hello - I'm near Reigate too ( Geoteach & Essbee....)

What's the timing on your sale Dinny?? When can we expect you??

dinny · 21/10/2005 20:33

not too good atm, MO2 - our buyer's buyer pulled out so they are currently trying to refinance...think it's ready to go conveyancing-wise....! V frustrating!

well, have been for more of a recee round Reigate - went to the Priory park/playground. Lovely lovely lovely. Would really like to live within walking distance of the park and high street. Where would be good and what schools (primary) would that area be catchment for?

bloody sale better go through - would LOVE to move!

Hi Dinny

Yes , the park is lovely isn't it?

Think you'd need to be north of the High Street / A25 to be a contender for Holmesdale Infant. South of High St on the west of Cockshot hill you're probably looking at Doversgreen/ Orchards. The area off Chart Lane, South of Lesbourne Road is lovely, and may well give you access to the Parish, which is great school (but very limited places). I think Wray Common draws on quite a large area - perhaps more from the borders of Reigate/ Redhill, Linkfield lane etc.

However I think it may be an issue getting a place at your first choice, particularly since applications for 06 are already in.

Anyway, let us know how you get one!

hi everyone, looks like we may exchange contracts on our sale next week (fingers crossed!) but there's not much in way of suitable rental properties atm in Reigate!

quick question - is there much plane noise? is it on the Gatwick flight path at night or something awful?

thanks, D

I know this thread hasn't been added to in a while, but I just found this thread on Reigate and I was so excited! We moved to Reigate about 6 months ago and I feel like I haven't been able to meet any new friends here. I have two boys (3 and 18 months) and we have been looking into schools for ds1 - it was interesting reading your comments about the school. DH and I went to visit Holmesdale and we really would love for ds1 to go there but we are slightly out of the catchment area. But you never know!

Just wondering if anybody would like to meet up at some point.

Where are you fatbetty? Think for Homesdale you need to be in catchment and very lucky! I have DS 5, DD 2.5, DS 17 months. DS goes to St Joseph's

fatbetty · 21/03/2006 20:58

Hi Geogteach, We are just south of reigate park and next to Ochards Infant School - so chances are the kids will get into that school but fingers crossed about Holmesdale. Where is St. Joseph's?

geogteach · 22/03/2006 19:11

Next door to Doynings

fatbetty · 22/03/2006 19:39

I've heard good things about St. Joseph's. I did get their prospectus but didn't really think about going there, mainly because of distance. I like the thought of walking the kids to school - mind you I won't be doing that if we get into Holmesdale.

Do you meet up with others in the area? I've looked at other meetup website but most of them aren't with people in the area. It would be nice to meet some people that I don't have to drive 45 minutes to meet.

FatBetty - hellllloooooooooooooooooooo! ANd welcome to Reigate!

(I do wish you'd change your name - I bet you're not fat at all!)

I'd be up for a meet up if we can get a group motivated. I STILL have vouchers for Cafe Uno if we wanted a cheap night out...

I don't know if you read my messages below, but I have a child at Holmesdale, and I'm afraid the 'catchment' area is usually rather 'tight'. I'm afraid I don't think it usually stretches as far as south Reigate, but you never know - i did have a friend who lived off Cockshot Hill who got in, but then her DS2 didn't Sad.

I also know people with children at Orchards and they are very happy there.

Are you looking for a daytime or evening meet?

fatbetty · 23/03/2006 16:41

My dh was just saying last night that I should change my name too! You're right, I'm not fat and my name isn't Betty. A friend of mine at University came up with that nickname and it somehow was the only thing I could think of when signing up to Mumsnet.

Here i was getting really depressed that I haven't met many people in the area (just talking to my Mum about it) and then you wrote. Hurray!! (Gosh, I'm sounding rather desperate here!) I would love to meet up with you and any others in the area. Doesn't really matter to me when - day or evenings work for me. I also have a Cafe Uno voucher handy!!

I'm not putting all my hopes into getting into Holmesdale. It's a lovely school but we are out of the catchment area and I know everybody is trying to get in there. Just wish they wouldn't make us what so long to find out!!!

ReigateMum · 23/03/2006 16:43

have you applied for your 3 year old to start this year?

ReigateMum · 23/03/2006 16:45

I have 2 DSs - 3 and 6, and the 3 year old is due to go to Holmesdale in Sept.

Have you moved to Reigate from very far away? Was it a work-related decision, or a deliberate choice?

fatbetty · 23/03/2006 16:57

I also have 2 DSs - 3 and 20 months. Still waiting to see where DS1 will go to school in September. While I'm sure we will get into Orchards, I still debating about sending him 5 days a week. Seems like a lot for a little kids but I'm sure they get used to it and love every minute of it.

We moved to Reigate from Chislehurst which is near Bromley. We lived there for 3.5 years and moved mainly for DH's work. He works near Staines and the commute was killing him. I didn't want to move all the way over there as I still wanted to be close to friends in that area - and Reigate seemed like a good compromise. We are really glad we moved here and we needed a bigger house from our old one.

Have you always lived here?

fatbetty · 23/03/2006 16:59

I have applied for nursery for DS1 at Holmesdale and at Orchards. I was going to see another nursery this week but keep putting it off. DH saw it and liked it. We also went to Orchards open house and DH didn't like it so we are battling about schools at the moment.

ReigateMum · 23/03/2006 17:04

We've lived here about 10 years, so yes - feels like always!

I Must pay my subs and then I'll CAT you - are you on MSN or anything?

(Am about to leave the office, so will catch up again later!)

xx

fatbetty · 23/03/2006 17:08

Yes (I think???!!) I'm on hotmail and I think people have contacted me that way before. Must go to and try to organise dinner. Sigh, is it that time of day already???

geogteach · 23/03/2006 19:12

I know what you mean about walking to school, a definate advantage, although as yet I can't get ds1 to walk home! I know someone who lives in your direction sends her DD to Leigh, still not walkable but a possibility.
I could be up for a meet up depending on when it is

fatbetty · 23/03/2006 21:42

I'm pretty flexible so I left it to your schedule.
