When I used to travel on the tube, I often gave up my seat. The thing was that I'd have to stand in the way of the seat until said needy person got there or some other bugger would nick it.

Hey HD - you mightve been one of the few to do that for me then! Ive had a guy get up once to give me a seat only for some ignoramus to walk past me and sit in it.

Did look very embarrassed though when i coughed and said "Do you mind?" whilst waving crutches in the air in front of huge 7 mth pg belly.

I was on the P&R going into Cambridge whilst 4 months pregnant and on crutches. I was offered a seat (more for the crutches), but the driver pulled away before I could sit down. When I had words with him, he said he is not required to wait until people are seated.

I told him that I had fallen over and lost the baby, I would have sued him.

At 6 mths pg I was on the bus at Gatwick, and noone offered me a seat, even when I had asked! DH and 10YO DS had to stand one each side and hold me up and make sure I didn't fall over when it cornered (mad driver as well).

One point about pushchairs though. I have lupus, and am registered disabled (blue badge and all), so on the rare occaisions that I P&R into Cambridge on my own, my joint problems mean it is impossible to fold the pushchair and hold onto baby at the same time (I even have trouble doing so when I dont have the baby).

Parking in the centre is £4 an hour, with no concession (except for the first hour - can YOU shop in less than hour once you have parked? - and to get the concession you have to hold up queue of cars leaving to show your badge)

Just a thought!

vicki, i had to physically restrain people who were aiming for the seat i was saving, sometimes.

On the bus on the way to being induced (No 25 - Ilford to oxford st), i stood for half the journey (41.5 weeks preggers)
Luckily, I quite enjoyed pregnancy and had no back ache / swollen ankles so twas not as bad as it could have been. I am sure I bitched considerably about it though at the time.

I always give up my seats for others who are more needy of it.

It actually makes me so cross that I could actually scream in their faces.

I was in labour with dd2 on a train from london, imagine the scene, me huffing and puffing, standing up because noone would give up their seats, all doing their 'I'm reading and can't see you' act. DH asked a man to give up his seat in the end, which he did.
