Do you have a cleaner?

I'm thinking of getting one (shhh, don't tell Jools!! )

Already have a gardener as that is something I just could not keep tidy, but have always wanted to do my own cleaning - I quite like it and I'm not sure about someone else in the house (hunky, tanned young maaaayan in the garden is fine though ). HOwever, something has to give as I've got the kids all day and my freelance work in the evenings/weekends and this house is just unmanageable - it's things like the toilets and the wooden floors - I'm afraid to say they get to quite a state before I get round to it

So I guess what I want to know is...

  • how much do you pay (if you don't mind telling)?
  • how often do they come?
  • does the place not get a tip again 5 mins after they've gone?

TIA

Toothache - I know when we first looked a few years ago the agencies took about £ 2 per hour more than private cleaners.

give me strength!

Gobbledispook · 03/10/2005 12:42

What ya doin - searching my messages?!

Don't worry, work has eased off and I can clean again. Was tempted for a while there.

GhoulsToo · 03/10/2005 12:51

massage 1.30 pm on Saturday

Gobbledispook · 03/10/2005 13:26

Ooh lovely. Will come up Friday night then and go back Sunday if that's OK?

shannen · 03/10/2005 13:49

I can't imagine having a cleaner or a gardner and don't know anybody that has one!!!???!!!! If only!!

Twiglett · 03/10/2005 13:54

£7.11 per hour .. cleaner gets £5 cash, agency gets the £2.11 per hour by dd

she comes once a week for 3 hours

she does all the ironing and cleans the wet areas .. kitchen / loos / bathroom / wood floors .. she doesn't do a fabulous cleaning deep down clean just a surface everything sanitised and shiny clean but the important thing is she DOES ALL THE IRONING

yes the place is a tip after she's gone but at least once a week I don't need to care about tidying

shannen · 03/10/2005 13:59

Do you all work, those that have cleaners? (Only asking out of interest) If I had the money I certainly would - working or not!!

shannen · 03/10/2005 14:03

On second thoughts - ignore my last post - way too nosy, sorry

Fangache · 03/10/2005 14:04

Shannen - DH and I work fulltime and the house is starting to suffer. My Cleaner starts on Wednesday and TBH I don't think £110 per month is too much of an extravagance if it means my kids will be wearing ironed clothes! I spend little enough time with them. At the weekends I've found myself spending hours cleaning, hours I should be spending with my wee angels.

Twiglett · 03/10/2005 14:09

I'm a SAHM so yes I work

shannen · 03/10/2005 14:09

Yes Fangache, I can understand that. If I worked full time I would want to spend all my time with the kids too, not scrubbing a kitchen floor.

Fangache · 03/10/2005 14:11

lol Twiglett.

Gobbledispook · 03/10/2005 14:31

I'm a SAHM but work freelance so all my 'spare' time is spent working.

We have a gardener because the garden is big and I would never get round to mowing it or dealing with the borders. I'm just being realistic!!

Gobbledispook · 03/10/2005 14:31

Oh, I don't have a cleaner though.

spidermama · 03/10/2005 14:32

NO. My house isn't tidy enough for a cleaner.

jayzmummy · 03/10/2005 14:34

Yes....first day today and its fab!
She cleaned the house top to bottom and I sat and watched!!!
Ive only got her for the next six weeks whilst I am in plaster.....but Im sure I will be able to talk DH in to letting me keep her on

aloha · 03/10/2005 14:39

Toothache - that's a LOT! I pay my cleaner £7 hour direct - though when I used an agency it was the same as Twiglett. And we are in pricey London!

Fangache · 03/10/2005 14:41

Is it Aloha?

Oh NO! Can't cancel her now!! I looked up another one, but it was £10 per hour.
