Recipes for my new blender!

I got a blender delivered yesterday by my very mc friend! I managed to make a smoothie (glorified term for a milkshake if you ask me!) and I was just wondering what else I could do with my new blender - the instructions don't come with recipes which is a shame! For instance, can I mix pastry with it? Chop veggies with it? It's a new toy to me and I'm itching to find out new ways to play with it!

Rhubarb, I posted Nigella's fairy cake recipe somewhere and that's good and v easy in a blender. I'll see if I can find it. Other ideas: Hummus? if you think you'll make it I'll post a recipe.

Rhubarb, is it one of the old-fashioned goblet kind or the stick kind? Stick kind is great for soup - just cook the veg and blend the soup in the pan. (Goblet kind is hopeless, you have to do it in little batches and it gets everywhere.)

That's all I do with mine though - smoothies and soup!

Hummus? Goblet? Stick? Um well, I don't know what hummus is, is it nice? And I think the blender might be a stick type, it's got a filtery thing in it, and a jug, but not a mill. Does that make any sense?

Is it like a jug with blades in it which sits on a base or a stick with blades on it that you stick in a jug/bowl?

Made a fantastic smoothie yesterday - 6 ice cubes of frozen strawberry puree, about 10 of frozen melon puree and half a can of pears. Like a slush puppy only healthy!

It's a jug with blades in it that sits on a base. You can either add the filter to it or not.

pesto?
big handful fresh basil, clove garlic, chunk of grated parmesan, small handful pinenuts (ideally gently toasted beforehand but I can never be bothered. actually I can always be bothered, but always burn them to a crisp, throw them away and then use untoasted ones. I just don't learn) and enough olive oil to give it the right consistency.
whizz it all up in blender

bung it on pasta. delicious.

uh oh, beware, carrots will turn your beautiful new blender orange (well any plastic bits inside).

why can't you eat pesto coddy? useful to know since you have about a 50%chance of being given it when coming to lunch at my house....!

Oh - had right laugh in Tescos at Sidcup the other day asked senile couple of codgers if they had forgotten their baby when they parked in the space I had been waiting for - they looked at me like I was nutty - aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!!!!

Mind you I did over dramatise and ran up to them saying 'Oh my God I think you must have left your baby at home by mistake!!'

Just made a lovely Banana Yoghurty drink thing, and this aft made some lovely fairy cakes thanks to WWW! Trouble is cleaning the damn thing, just how do you manage to clean underneath those blades????
Anyway, so come on, what else can I do with this fantastic piece of middle class technology?!

I give mine a good rinse immediately after using it - seems to do a good job. Of course, I've never done anything flash like fairy cakes in mine! I wonder if you're meant to fill it with water and whizz the blades round - one of the settings on mine says "pulse/clean".

Rinse it immediately Rhubarb,and then put a very little bit of washing up liquid and water and give it a good whizz.
My top blender tip - Don't try to break up muscavoda sugar that's been sitting in your cupboard for a year in it. It oproduces a horrid smell of burning innards, and bent blades.

Janh - if it was one of you I would be unbelieveably surprised - my god she looked like an overstuffed sausage - DP told me he would lock me in the house if I even tried wearing something like that in public and I am about half the size that she was!!

What's muscavoda sugar? You see, I'm just not used to all these middle class terms you keep throwing at me!
Good tips about the cleaning though! I'm going to make some more fairy cakes for Friday, and we've already run out of ice-cream and banana's! Now all I need is one of Janh's soup recipes!

Muscovado.

I have a lovely soup recipe (well Nigella does). Chestnut and lentil

Chop & Fry a carrot, a stick of celery and an onion. add lentils. Add water. Simmer for 1 hour. Add tin of peeled chestnuts. Simmer for 20mins. Bung in belnder and whizz.

Or just shove all your leftovers (meat/veg) into the blender, and add stock (marigold is best).

For this warm weather gazpacho is good. whymummy will have a definative recipe, but I just whizz up tomatoes, cucumber, parsley and anything else I feel like.

Rhubarb - you could try this recipe for Gazpacho soup (cold tomato soup from Souther Spain. V healthy and V tasty. Also as far as the Spanish are concerned, v peasant class, never mind working class)

6-10 nice fresh tomatoes, peeled (a large tin will do)
1 green pepper, de-seeded
1 red pepper, ditto
half a cucumber
good slug of Olive oil
half a clove of garlic
salt / pepper etc.
some breadcrumbs

method: blend everything except the breadcrumbs together, add breadcrumbs until it becomes a kind of soupy consistency then put in fridge for 2 hours. Serve with bits of raw pepper and onion chopped finely.
