Spikycow, you must be hypersensitive. Do you lie down just before it rains? Are you Indigo in any way? How can you market this?

spikeycow · 20/10/2010 10:31

Right have googled it. It's a toss up between a type of sleep paralysis, or a ghost.
Solid and Expat, step this way!

LetThereBeRock · 20/10/2010 10:43

That's sleep paralysis Spikey. I've had it before, only in my case the door was shaking. It's very spooky, but certainly not related to the supernatural.

LetThereBeRock · 20/10/2010 10:45

I've only had it once though thankfully. It's very disturbing when your door is vibrating.

GypsyMoth · 20/10/2010 10:46

that voynich book looks like an early gardening manual to me.....and gardening is definitely a mystery to me!

TheSmallClanger · 20/10/2010 10:58

I've never believed the Ayers Rock dingo story. I don't necessarily believe that the mother did it, and I don't believe the religious sacrifice bit at all, but the invocation of a conveniently disappearing dingo doesn't work for me.

I know have studied wild and feral dogs, and the scenario didn't ring true.

Longtalljosie · 20/10/2010 11:37

Hello Sarah - to answer your question, no she swore she'd never lived where I used to live. She was a good couple of years younger than me in the second Brownie pack. There also was about a year's gap between leaving the first place and her arrival at our Brownie pack in the second place. She was pretty young in the second place, so even if I had been wrong about her being older than me in the first place, she wouldn't have been old enough to be a Brownie then. Confused

madugherowngrave · 20/10/2010 12:03

LTJ that is so odd! Did she have an unusual name?

Longtalljosie · 20/10/2010 12:06

Very. I've since googled it and looked on Facebook (at the request of MNers when I first told them about it) but it draws a total blank.

ninedragons · 20/10/2010 12:38

I've seen wild dingoes and I don't have a doubt that one took Azaria Chamberlain.

If you take your shoes off outside your tent or car, one will dart in and run off with them. They don't care if you are sitting right there - they snatch and run with anything that smells interesting.

The press crucified Lindy Chamberlain. When she finally got out of prison, I can remember the scummier sections of the media claiming that it didn't matter if she hadn't done it - she'd lost lots of weight in prison so what was her problem?

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 20/10/2010 12:47

Madug I've just checked out about that old guy and although I am sure I remember the police checking out a couple of properties at the time, it turns out the old guys story was dismissed as he had come up with rubbish in some other case as well (Wikipedia explains it far better than me [hgrin])

BalloonSlayer · 20/10/2010 12:57

Madug I don't know what Australians think about the case nowadays - must ask my sister.

SmallClanger - what was your take on the twins who were bitten by a fox recently then?

poorbuthappy · 20/10/2010 13:00

How does sleep paralysis make your bed or door shake?

twirlymum · 20/10/2010 13:01

lottiejenkins that video is really creepy!

WhoAteAgentZigzagsBrain · 20/10/2010 13:03

Talking about sleep paralysis reminded me of the cases of 'old hag syndrome' where the person wakes up feeling a sinister presence in the room and sees typically an old woman approaching the bed, she climbs up and sits on their chest and they can't move or speak.

I think there's lots of cases which go hundreds of years back.

Of course there are 'scientific' explanations, but it's a bit weird for them all to have the same types of experiences across time and geographic areas.

Really creepy.

LetThereBeRock · 20/10/2010 13:05

It doesn't make your door or bed shake. It makes you think that it is. There's an article on it here.

TheSmallClanger · 20/10/2010 13:11

BalloonSlayer - interesting that you've brought up the fox case. Someone I know professionally, who is in a much better position to comment than me, has a strong suspicion that those children were injured by a domestic dog, not a fox. The fox story is protecting someone who would otherwise be prosecuted for owning a dangerous dog.

It's hard to say though, because there was so much media hype and bullshit around that case. It was impossible to tell what was true and what was hyperbole. The photos of the twins I saw suggest that their injuries weren't as bad as suggested by some.

I've never heard of foxes entering houses or attacking people for no reason, either. The few fox attacks I know of came about when people encountered cornered, injured foxes that were unable to run away.

BalloonSlayer · 20/10/2010 13:22

I heard that dog theory on here to, SmallClanger.

Out of interest, why is it more likely that a tame animal will attack than a wild one?

twirlymum · 20/10/2010 13:49

Er, a fox came into my house, it was very brazen, wasn't at all scared, even when I shouted at it!

TheSmallClanger · 20/10/2010 14:24

In most circumstances, wild animals are absolutely terrified of humans and other predators, and do what they can to get out of the way.
Domestic animals just do not have this degree of fear and will look to defending themselves. It is often that they are in a familiar home territory as well.

Twirly, what happened with your fox? I'm fascinated. We used to get them in the garden, but they never tried to get in the house.

Shaxx · 20/10/2010 14:24

I often have the shaky bed thing! I always put it down to sleep paralysis. I sometimes feel like I'm rolling off the bed too but can't move. I also hear weird radio frequency sounds.
Makes me sound mental but I swear its just because I'm more aware of the stage where I'm falling asleep.

I absolutley love this thread!

PortBlacksandsDoppelganger · 20/10/2010 14:28

Dh does that 'tripping off a curb' movement almost everynight as we're dropping off. Quite annoying if i'm already asleep....

spikeycow · 20/10/2010 14:43

I have also seen rats, the only thing I'm scared of, while in the process of waking up. One was right by my head. Then it just disappeared. The first time it happened I woke my godson up to look around for me Blush. He was 11 though so found it funny

twirlymum · 20/10/2010 15:08

It was a couple of years ago, the back door had been left open as it was a warm evening. I heard a noise in the hallway (laminate flooring!) and went out to find a fox at the bottom of the stairs.
I yelled at it instinctively, but it just stood there. I shouted to DH, he ran out to the hallway too, then it ran out.
I was a bit spooked, as DS was in his cot upstairs. Had we not had laminate flooring, it's likely I wouldn't have heard it at all.

madugherowngrave · 20/10/2010 15:13

Have you ever dreamt about this man?
