Good Evening :)

I hope this is the correct place to post to introduce myself to the world of MumsNet?

I have noooooooo idea where to start, so have you any pointers? I suppose, start posting, stay away from the bunfights and try not to tread on anyones toes ;)

I have a small one, well shes 8 (going on 18) and I am a part time working S/P (nt that that matters of course)

I found this place after it being mentioned on 'A N Other' Parenting site, which quite frankly has died a death, so have come here to see what you guys have to offer.

So, its great to meet you all and I hope that I can settle in nicely.

Love always xx

Hi Headbanger

Sorry for the kisses - a bad habit and dont even realise I do it. Ill try not to in future if Im not supposed to.

OP posts:
Headbanger · 07/09/2010 22:22

I'm being a big fat meanie. It doesn't matter one whit, of course - it's just (for reasons I cannot fully explain!) not terribly MN...

Valpollicella · 07/09/2010 22:22

Welcome!

All good advice as posted above...we don't do kisses here, more like a punch on the arm, or in very extreme circumstances you can post 'I know we don't do hugs on MN but '

Enjoy MN, it's brilliant.

And if you need help coming up with another name start a thread, there'll be plenty of fabulous suggestions

SgtAngua · 07/09/2010 22:24

Yep, 'tis huge! I usually lurk around Food, child development type topics & chat. Have the odd look in AIBU but a bit to wary of a kicking to post there!

AnyFucker · 07/09/2010 22:24

hello, newbie Grin

missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:26

Haha!!! fully understand Headbanger :)

(was about to put more at the bottom - stupid habit - and just deleted Wink)

Headbanger · 07/09/2010 22:26

In all seriousness OP (erm - have you seen that acronym yet? Means either 'original poster' or 'original post', and is actually rather lazy) - one of the best things about MN is that because people are very intolerant of bad spelling or ill-put arguments or unearned soppiness, it makes you sort of man up, as it were. I'm fairly certain that MN has made me a little more politically aware, and more thoughtful about issues.

Has anyone yet advised you to stay away from AIBU? It's often fairly unpleasant, though people behave there in ways they wouldn't dream of on other threads. 'Tis a mystery...

SecretNutellaFix · 07/09/2010 22:27

Hello there- I hope you'll enjoy MN. Loads to read about, argue about, discuss.

Would stay away from AIBU for a couple of weeks. It's a bit incendiary on there at the moment. Even I'm staying away and I do enjoy a good ruck.

missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:29

Hi Valpollicella

Thanks for your hello :)

and your advice is duly noted :)

Its the small things you learn to make one fit in Im guessing.

Good idea for the name thread, thanks!

Hello and welcome.

Good advice already from the other posters. Just dive right in and if you do get a flaming, ignore, have a glass of wine and get straight back to it.

I quite enjoy a bunfight occassionally.

You do need another name. What kind of things do you like to do? Hobbies or interests?

missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:35

Headbanger

I am a spelling pedant so am always careful myself to double check before posting and makes you more wise to what you are saying too I suppose. So much can be read the wrong way and arguments/bunfights start. Im not the most confident poster in the world, usually because I am rubbish at explaining myself therefore only post on what I do know and it cant be questioned IYKWIM. I am a member of another Parenting Forum but its nowhere on this scale.

I am staying well away from AIBU for now, I just read quite alot from a distance, chuckle a bit, look a bit Shock and sit firmly on hands I think!!!!

OP posts:
Headbanger · 07/09/2010 22:39

Yes, I know what you mean - proof-reading your work makes you think twice! Being a pedant though, why aren't you using apostrophes Wink? Is the key broken?!

I agree with MmeLindt. We have to get you a new username

missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:42

Hi SecretNutellaFix and MmeLindt

Thanks for the hello and advice :)

Im going to try to jump in a little and hope for the best! (not tonight as shattered and need sleep)
Man myself up for a flaming or two, drink masses of wine Grin and enjoy!

For name purposes.....
Hmmmmm Im single, mum to one, I love chocolate :) sleep, the occasional bit of spontaneous exercise Wink and Im now getting really stuck so realise Im actually a bit of a boring fart that needs to get out more haha!!!

Sleepychoccymummyjump?

It's still shorter than TimothyTigerTuppennyTail!

missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:52

MmeLindt

Good one! I could use the initials of said parenting website in my name to cause a bit of a 'hmmmmm who is she from over there?!' stirr.

That could be fun :)

Il have a think over night and prob name change tomorrow (if I can work out how to do it!!!) as Im off to bed now. 2 days back on school run is taking its toll already.

Thanks for your help!

OP posts:
missw2211 · 07/09/2010 22:55

Good night! I've asked the apostrophe fairy to leave some under your pillow Grin!

MmeLindt · 07/09/2010 22:56

No, no Mummy in your name.

Choccy is good. There are too many Mummies.

escapeefromnetmums

(assuming that is the place you mean)

Or NoMoreTickers (which is less controversial while still very MNetty)

Tippychoocks · 07/09/2010 22:57

Dozychoccyhun
Sleepycocohun
Chocosleepohun

Only kidding Grin Is that where you're from though? You could name yourself after Great Escapees. SteveMcQueenMum. ShawshankMum. AlcatrazMum.

Headbanger · 07/09/2010 23:02

NOTHING TWEE!!!!

No mummies or hunnies. I'll come and bully you (no seriously I really actually wouldn't, just to clarify.

DropYerTickers

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 07/09/2010 23:03
