have found myself using poppet for DD, and lovey, and sweetheart, but my fave is girleen used by an Irish-speaking friend of mine (means, literally, little girl) and I've taken to using it with alacrity :o

hidetheelephant · 31/08/2010 13:14

Surprise Would you find being called love, dear or dearie annoying? I find I get called that by elderly people.

deaddei · 31/08/2010 13:17

Have been known to use sausage when the dcs were small.
Hate pet names for adults, especially babes.

Lionstar · 31/08/2010 13:22

Use many of those, especially Poppet, Pumkin and Sausage. Use Boy-boy for some reason. Other endearments are Monkey-trousers, Lambkin and Honey. Mostly used at home, probably a bit twee to use in company.

resistanceisfutile · 31/08/2010 13:26

No never. And I HATE darling. I find them a bit sugary sweet, they are just not me.

But I have my own nicknames for people close to me that I made up myself and would make no sense to a stranger.

RonansMummy · 31/08/2010 13:27

babycake and boobymonster have somewhere along the line turned into boobycake :-s but only at home!

Rosedee · 04/09/2010 19:22

My dp calls me porkchop Confused I call my son lovey, Monkey, little bear and I don't know why but boobop tallulah. I know I'm weird. I call my mums cat poppy chicken instead of just poppy.

nevergoogle · 04/09/2010 19:24

penguin anyone?
missy
pootle
pookie

mmmperuna · 07/09/2010 18:00

I use all manner of nicknames for my DC - it stems from DH and his weird brothers who had all manner of insulting poo related nicknames for each other that they still carried on into adulthood.

Even our cats have nicknames so far removed from their own and not even nice nicknames but said with love

TechLovingDad · 12/09/2010 17:07

I use these:

DW - Love, Babe, or Treacle. Treacle said with a wink and that clicking noise you do with your tongue. I'm smooth, me.

DD1 - Mush.
DD2 - Spud, Pumpkin, Munchkin.

OuchPassVodka · 12/09/2010 17:27

ds is the boy. but cant really call him ds in rl and there are people who are interested in him in a in passing way where it is just appropriate.

i had a job where i had to call people something so everyone was sweetheart from middle aged blokes through to 3yo kids. virtually never use it now.

Eglu · 12/09/2010 17:31

I call the DSes Sausage and Poppet a lot. DH uses Buddy for them. I don't use any of the other names though.

Crazycatlady · 12/09/2010 17:43

DD is Silly Sausage rather a lot. Apart from that, no, we have our own ridiculous made up and not particularly complementary nicknames...

Meow75 · 12/09/2010 17:49

My DH calls me by my nickname based on our surname, which started at work, and we used to socialise a lot with my work colleagues. Not so much now, but I was unreasonably pleased to finally have a nickname that wasn't actually an insult, so I think that's one of the reasons that DH still uses it. Some of HIS work colleagues are surprised that he addresses his DW by her nickname.

I like it. Grin

harpsichordcarrier · 12/09/2010 17:51

yes all of them except pickle, sausage or honeypie
I have LOADS more sickening than that, though
e.g. Popsy Perkins
Baby Girl
Boo
Boodle
Bean
Beanie
etcetc

My son was Sonnybunboy, also Boy Wonder. As babies all four got Wee Chookie Bundle, as well as the usual, wee sweetheart, wee darling, etc.

Nowadays they're all grown up, so mostly just darling, honey or sweetheart, but my four grandsons now get Pudding, Cookie, Sausage, etc and my little granddaughter gets Gorgeous Girlie as well as various other terms of endearment. DH's goes way back and is super-secret. Wink

seeker · 12/09/2010 18:46

My father almost always called me either Buggerlugs or Ermintrude. But he was Australian, so that may explain it.

I call my two Boy and Girl, and Bunny. I also call them Child and Other Child.

hackingandhewing · 12/09/2010 18:48

techlovingdad do you know why you call your DS spud?!

Our DS (5.5) has been known as spud since he was tiddly and nobody can quite remember why? He also gets called spuddy, spud man doody or spud cake!!!!

RunawayWife · 12/09/2010 18:52

DP calls DS2 monkey and I call both boys tweetle (although the 14 year old no longer answers to thisHmm)
