jayzmummy · 27/08/2005 23:52

eh????

misdee · 27/08/2005 23:52

sorry. do u think it should be an opt in option, like now with signing the register, or an opt out, where you are automatically on the porgan doantion register unless you say sign to so no.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/08/2005 23:53

Nemo1977 · 27/08/2005 23:54

opt out...as many people mean to register but just dont.

jayzmummy · 27/08/2005 23:54

opt out then definately.

misdee · 27/08/2005 23:57

and should the next of kin have the final say? even if ot goes against their loved ones wishes?

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 27/08/2005 23:58

If someone goes on the register the next of kin should have NO say in it, sorry!!

Janh · 28/08/2005 00:06

opt out, and next-of-kin having no right to contradict!

misdee · 28/08/2005 00:08

i;d be very annoyed if my next of kin said no to donating hen i die. its like going against your final wishes. i said i'd come bhack and haunt anyone who stops it!!

BadHair · 28/08/2005 00:09

Opt out, but with the ability to specify. My dp says that they can take any part of him but not his eyes - don't know why, he just has a thing about eyeballs. I think he'd haunt me if I let his eyeballs go!

colditz · 28/08/2005 00:09

opt out.

Distel · 28/08/2005 00:10

I believe that you should have to opt out and if you are on the register then next of kin have no say.

If it is your wish then that should be the end of it, you get what you want, not what your next of kin wants.

misdee · 28/08/2005 00:10

some people say not eyes, as they feel that the eyes lead to the soul. i know mieow doesnt want her eyes used.

they can use me for any part they want.

OP posts:
Distel · 28/08/2005 00:12

My eyes would be no good, blind as a bat but I think I would give them if they were useful.

Janh · 28/08/2005 12:22

They only take the corneas, Distel - just the very front bit of your eye - so it doesn't matter what your vision is like

Mytwopenceworth · 28/08/2005 12:24

Opt out, definatly. And for next of kin to not be the ones to make any decision on it!

Hulababy · 28/08/2005 12:30

Opt out, and next of kin to only give permission for children who are unable to make a reasoned decision themselves.

lemonice · 28/08/2005 12:36

I think it should be opt out.

Now what happens if an adult child dies and her/his parents who are next of kin disagree, I assume there has to be agreement or it won't go ahead.

Or eg a man is divorced, but has a young child but not custody and three of his own siblings whom he hasn't seen for years and his parents are deceased. He is 40. Who decides whether his organs can be donated?

Janh · 28/08/2005 12:45

That's precisely why it should be down to the adult donor's own decision and next of kin left out of it!

If we are all donors by default except where someone has specifically registered a wish not to donate there is no problem for adults.

Gobbledigook · 28/08/2005 12:48

Totally agree JanH - just said that on Misdee's other thread. Most bizarre - why make your own decision, and act on it, in life - if someone can just disagree when you've gone?
