Don't have a tent...yet, but have been scrutinising all the camping threads and haven't seen the answer to this question of mine:

How much do campsites cost? Ball park figure please, I imagine they differ a great deal. Do you pay per night?

£10-13 for a tent

SleepySuzy · 25/08/2005 23:21

Per tent, per night

I dunno. Dh is thinking smaller than me, I fear. I have read the threads and am still none the wiser. There's me and dh, ds1 (8) and ds2 (3). I haven't been camping since I was a child. Initially I'm only thinking of weekends away. I have all the names in my head - Vangos and Outwells and Wynnthingies but the more I look the more confused I get!

Oh thanks for that, sally. Funnily enough dh was looking at that site last night and found the Sunncamp Mogul I think it's too small and I like yours better - but quite a difference in price!

OP posts:
marthamoo · 26/08/2005 09:21

I think I'm swinging him though - last night I said "oh but what's its...you know...wotsit...weatherproof doodah?" and he said "oh, its hydrostatic head's 3000." He was alos wittering on about footprints!

Once I get him talking the language I'm halfway there

we just bought this one Aztec haven't used it yet though maybe next week

Neither dh noe myself have been camping for about 20 yrs - it's a different world

marthamoo · 26/08/2005 09:52

That one looks good to me, iota. 4000 HH , good size and a blimmin' good price. Have bookmarked it. Out of stock though - did you buy the last one?!

marthamoo · 26/08/2005 09:55

I think the Vango Diablo 600 is my current favourite - someone recommended it on another thread, hmb maybe? Don't know if I can persuade dh to spend that much though when we are novice campers - what if we hate it?

OP posts:
iota · 26/08/2005 10:23

sorry Moo - perhaps we did -- lots of bargains around at the mo though.

I too worry about what if we don't like camping -- so far we've got the tent, 3 x lights, 4 x sleeping bags, 4 x chairs, a table and 2 x cooking rings.

maybe there will be a big sale of nearly new equipment on ebay in the next few weeks .

marthamoo · 26/08/2005 10:25

Well, let me know if there is, iota - we may be interested

I love the idea - I'm just hoping the reality matches up. I am a bit of a girlie wuss when it comes to huge hairy moths and spiders though.

Any top tips for the best thing to sleep on - dh seemes to think airbeds are unnecessary - which I find quite worrying

marthamoo · 26/08/2005 10:41

Your dh sounds eerily like mine - we already have a double airbed, and a ready bed, but when I said we would need another airbed or ready bed for ds1 he said "airbeds? That's not proper camping - you have a foam mat or sleep on the ground." Sod that - if we do get a tent the airbeds go too. And I have my eye on sallys's double sleeping bag (on the other thread) which is half price at Argos atm.

iota · 26/08/2005 10:43

even in my far distant back-packing days I had a foam mattress. Surely getting a cold hard night's sleep is one of the things that would really put you off camping isn't it?

happymerryberries · 26/08/2005 10:44

Get a Colorado 8 and that will make three of us on MN!
That vango is a fab tent, loads of room in sthe living area....the bed pods make me a bit claustrophobic. It is also a bit more fiddly to put up than the colorado! But it is fully integral ground sheet, which is to my mind a big plus.

We are movinf from air beds to camp beds are we find air beds too soft...other people find camp beds too hard. My bro just uses a roll mat but that is a bit harsh for me!

Try them out if you can before you buy. Different things suit different people.

iota · 26/08/2005 10:54

thanks hmb - my dh appears to have gone froma 4* hotel nancy-boy wimp to a ruffy-tuffy backwoodsman, within a matter of days

fifilala · 26/08/2005 11:34

we have got the montana 6 tent. to sleep on we have self inflating camping mats. I find them perfectly adequate for a couple of nights. Our sleeping bags are good to -12 degrees (not that I would be camping in that temp! But because they are nice and padded helps with the comfort. Sleeping bags were only £20 each and DS £12.
