I have just found one and just wanted to check the price is OK and about average?

She has quoted 50p a garment - how does that sound?

Thanks

Rebecca

my friend is an ironing lady and she charges 9pound a basket.

OldieMum · 24/07/2003 19:40

My ironing lady charges 8 pounds an hour - Oxford area.

Sounds a very good price. But is it the same price for childs teeshirt as for man's shirt, or awkward trousers? If so - I would save the easy stuff for yourself and hand over all the tricky stuff. Like a wedding dress (snigger)...

Does she collect / deliver, and does she hang or fold. Other requirements I would be interested in if I were you!

Beccaroll · 24/07/2003 19:46

It seems that is for any garment so yep, think the way to go is do the easy stuff myself and do my little girls stuff and send the bedding, DPs Shirts and tricky stuff to her!!

Not sure about the hanging/folding thing but she delivers and collects in with the price!!

So.....is it a big help having an ironing lady? Are you pleased youve got one?!

My cousin takes in ironing (Busby, Glasgow) and charges £10 for 20 items.

codswallop · 24/07/2003 20:23

I could whistle through that in 20 mins - just have!

The ironing service I use cgarges by weight £1.20 per pound. You can get a bin bag ful done for about £20.
Bargain

I had one and she was lovely, but then I got a tumble drier and now I feel nothing needs ironing. she charged by the hour, and I send the stuff in big binbags and it came back very neatly folded in the same binbags - except shirts which were on hangers. She was so honest and quick I always felt guilty I hadn't paid her enough - can't have been more than £5 per hour. I'm sure it came out less than 50p a garment. Mind you, you couldn't pay me enough to do ironing.

aloha · 24/07/2003 21:34

I got about 3 binbags full for £20. I kept telling her to put her prices up!

linzoid · 24/07/2003 21:55

I go to someones house and iron for them. I do 3 hours a week (1 1/2 hours twice a week) and get paid £15.

jinna · 24/07/2003 22:00

i pay £15 for 30 items

judetheobscure · 24/07/2003 23:19

I pay £6.50 an hour. 3 and 1/2 hours does our family ironing for the week (not including sheets which generally don't get done).

Boe · 25/07/2003 14:41

£9 an hour, she also does the cleaning, very slowly I may add.

She does not like me - I always call her Tine (the cleaner) by mistake and her name is Paula!!!

bubbly · 25/07/2003 15:14

my cleaner does ironing as part of the deal but we only really need dhs shirts ironed and a few smart things (rarely seen) she charges £5/hour which by the looks of what is posted below is extrememly reasonable. Should we offer more do you think?

oh bother - sorry

linzoid · 25/07/2003 16:47

perhaps i should ask for a pay rise!

My Mum has recently offered to do my ironing for me! Dh wasn't happy about it (he still won't have a cleaning lady because he thinks he does all the cleaning and supposedly doesn't mind - despite constantly complaining about not having enough time for himself/ourselves) - but I just took the stuff across anyway. It was Mum's way of giving me support because of dh's refusal to get a cleaning lady.

Ironically, like Mum, I don't really mind ironing if there is something decent on TV. And this week, I've managed to keep the ironing down to about 6 easy items and only 2 shirts, so I'll do it tonight myself.
