Tea Room the Thirteenth

Welcome to the newest instalment of the One Parent Families tea room. As it's heading for spring, we're now in a nice warm orangery surrounded by woodland filled with spring flowers. All are very welcome to join in with us parents of one (or indeed more!), the tea room gardener/handyman Mellors, various virtual Bishops (don't ask) and a variety of other characters from previous tea rooms. Grab a cuppa, relax!...

Hugs aplenty....and large cups of something too.

Hugs and supportive pats on the shoulder for everyone who wants them. And a loan of the tea room mop - with Mellors to wield it - for Mary.

Tea and some more of this yummy swiss roll, anyone?

mistlethrush · 04/02/2010 17:13

You're having a bad time of it at the moment Mary - (((hugs))), cup of tea and fresh drop scones coming your way. And, oh look, I have found an automatic floor cleaner that trundles round until it finds a damp or dirty patch at which point it madly whizzes and clanks until damp patch is clean and dry or dirty patch gone...

MaryBS · 04/02/2010 18:24

Thank you mistlethrush, that sounds like a useful device!

daisy99divine · 04/02/2010 22:04

Boo Mary, I am so sorry
since the Swiss Roll was a success (I imagine Amber seeing it as small people of Swiss descent having frantic sex ) here is a version laced with Vodka

Rats about the wee. here come the NMBs look, they are sashaying in each one with a teeny tiny spotted hanky tied around their heads astride a teeny tiny mop and wielding a bucket of sudsy water and wearing clogs.

Not sure if this is helpful, but it is good

I'm lying here (on the distressed sofa) swigging Bolly. Care to join?

CMOTdibbler · 04/02/2010 22:28

Please

Have been to Dundee today. Long day, made more fraught yesterday afternoon when DH realised that he had his days mixed up, and had a meeting at 3.30 today, 2 hours away. Cue frantic phonecall to babysitter, and when she couldn't help, threw ourselves on the mercy of the PIL who are fortunatly between holidays.

Roll on Friday..

thumbwitch · 05/02/2010 05:34

Aww Mary, sorry to hear that the littl'un is having wee issues! Have some instant-cleanse wipes and hugs/shoulder-pats as necessary.

CMOTD - your DH needs to get more of a handle on things, hmm? That could have been a bit disastrous! Still, at least he realised the day before, giving you time to sort it out.

I am fully Stressed (hence up at 5:30am) because I have nearly no time left here (much of it is now taken up visiting) and there is still all the stuff to sort out. My Dad has made things difficuly by not moving his stuff out of the way so I could even see what is there - but he has moved most of it now and will finish tomorrow (I hope).
Seeing as how he had several weeks notice that I was coming, one of the reasons being TO sort out the mess, you'd THINK he would have cleared the area beforehand, wouldn't you. But no. At least MrThumb has agreed I can ship the Stuff back if I need to to save stress. MiniThumb hasn't helped by still acting as a full-on Klingon - Dad has been a bit too grumpy and miniT is a bit wary of him so won't stay with him without me (blast it!). Things never run smoothly.

Pass the bolly and a straw, please Daisy...

amberlight · 05/02/2010 11:23

Lots of Swiss people having frantic sex? I always miss all the best bits in the evenings on this thread!

Think that needs a cuppa...anyone else for one, and perhaps some lightly spiced soup and a peculiarly shaped roll?

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 05/02/2010 13:20

Sounds good to me Amber. What sort of soup have you got today? And are these rolls your own handiwork - they are not quite as suggestive as the ones mistlechick always seems to end up making

MaryBS · 05/02/2010 14:46

horseshoe shaped rolls?

MyAm resisting the temptation to trot out the old joke "How do you make a Swiss roll?". Also went shopping this am, and saw the swiss rolls and purchased a chocolate one for tea!

peace will be over in 15 mins, need to collect the sprogs...

amberlight · 05/02/2010 14:46

Hmm, seems to be leek and potato surprise. Yes, the rolls started off more suggestive than that, but due to a slight miscalculation in the baking seem to have gone a bit limp

Good day here - been writing newspaper articles and such like, which is always entertaining and requires my team leader to strike out large parts of what I write in red ink and scribble "see me!" in the margin. Tee hee hee

Will try to find out how to make a swiss roll next week when I visit the uber geeks there. As we don't see eye to eye, they may roll into a lake

What shall I do tomorrow ? After DS and I argue with the horses (well, he gets pony to do as he asks, I argue with bolshy horse who was even defying the instructor in the week. It has been threatened to put me on a pony, which may be a hilarious comedy moment), we are on our own for the day as DH off to Twickers for the rugby.

Sounds like me writing brochures Amber - I write that they do stuff. Then someone else has to make it sound like a marketing thing

amberlight · 05/02/2010 14:58

DH gets to go to the rugby?

Grr

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 05/02/2010 15:24

Dh has manflu - but I bet he will act the martyr and insist on doing the drive down south this evening anyway. I've got rehearsals then concert in London tomorrow afternoon evening - then Sunday am we'll have to have an early quick walk of the dog before hightailing it back north so that dh can play in the 'technical' reh back here...

I think I'll have to go back to the Dr again next week. Been sitting here wondering whether that gurgle was my stomach or my chest - but its been in the same location just too many times (and stopped after I had a good cough) so I still think I've got a claggy chest. But it might explain why I've been feeling rather blah about things in general.

At least the rolls are a good SIZE Amber, even if they are a rather droopy shape

CMoT, I do get very at the riding... will have to track you down too, so I can bring mistlechick for a joint ride and see if they've got anything that is strong enough for me . Or Lose Some Weight and then try!!!!

CMOTdibbler · 05/02/2010 15:41

If you ever want to, then just CAT me - the stables are very reasonable, and they have a good range of horses.

Will be with the parents next weekend if you are in the Oxon area btw

DH got some tickets in the last minute supporters club release, so v happy. It's like a week by week lottery during the 6 nations as he waits to see if he can get a ticket anywhere

daisy99divine · 05/02/2010 18:53

Well, I don't think much of 2010 is all I can say

Therefore, I offer Twiglets and Bolly. Now

UniS · 05/02/2010 19:07

Helllo.
unis runs in, waves and rapidly head back out to put more washing on.

we have teh house back to just us 3 again till Sunday. then DHs other sister is arriving with hubby and baby, stopping till tuesday afternoon. lil SiL will just have to amuse herself and baby while I do rota volunteer duty at preschool on Tuesday morning.

MaryBS · 05/02/2010 19:30

Bolly would be good, also soft doll and pins that I can stick into aforementioned doll. And if doll happened to be wearing a dog collar, all the better

RacingSnake · 05/02/2010 19:47

Wrote a long and thoughtful post during my lunch hour - which promptly disappeared!

Now all I can do is quickly try and catch up:

Thumb - are you in England atm?
MaryBS - sorry for DS - how old is he?
Daisy - is it personal or general on behalf of other inmates that you are disappointed with 2010? Would you like to tell us more?
Amber - funnily enough, I saw you as a rugby fan. Don't know why.
Mistle - what are the symptoms of a claggy chest? (DH driving me mad with weeks of coughing). Did DH find job?
UniS - how is the house hunting?

amberlight · 05/02/2010 19:53

Tis true indeed that I am a rugby fan, on account of how otherwise I'd have gone mad - (madder??) from having spent the last 8 years of my life on the touchlines watching dear son play for two teams. Don't ask me the rules, though, and I've never really played it, unless you count the match against the boys' school in which Not A Lot of Rugby was played

Bolly would be splendid. Make mine a bottle and a straw please.

RacingSnake · 05/02/2010 20:32

Ah, yes, Fine Lad is a player. It makes sense.

MaryBS · 05/02/2010 22:08

RS - son is 8

RacingSnake · 05/02/2010 22:18

Oh, how difficult for him. Is there a counsellor (sp) at school, or a play therapist?

MaryBS · 05/02/2010 22:20

I've not mentioned it at school, although I have in the past. Its just a question of keep on top of him, remind him to go. Its always been the case that if he is very absorbed in what he is doing, he forgets to go to the loo.

I have hiccups. Anyone want to scare me?

RacingSnake · 05/02/2010 22:23

Mary, so it is being distracted, not emotional trauma?
