Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 16/06/2009 22:20

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

Hello - what a lovely place; mind if I join in? I spotted this as I was going past on the tram.

Am feeling a bit sleepy so I hope you don't mind if I l take my pot of lapsang my and date scone and newspaper, and lie down on my belly, kicking my striped-sock-clad heels in the air. I'll be over there by the beanbags - wake me if my tea spills

CMOTdibbler · 31/07/2009 19:59

Nice uneventful journey back, but got home to a sick DS with an ear infection.

Finger crossing for Kittenito and UniS

Did Daisyboy enjoy his visit to work ? At the conference there were quite a number of people bringing their children round to see the equipment that daddy works with. I wondered what DS would make of it all

llandb · 31/07/2009 22:52
UniS · 01/08/2009 22:26

runs in.. shouts, AAAARRRRGHHHH> runs out again

Can you tel I have In laws staying.

byyyyyyye.
see you soon

mistlethrush · 01/08/2009 23:12

Hello llandb - nice to see you here! I appreciate your lapsang consumption. Me too!

Goldensnitch - if you're lurking it would be lovely to see you!

Catita - fingers crossed that things have gone well and that you're all home safely.

UniS - good luck with the inlaws - and fingers crossed re estate agents.

CMot - hope ear infection clears up quickly.

UniS · 02/08/2009 22:42

Cat- is kttten home safe and sound? Hope you slept a bit.

News from estate agents- we have now done teh paper work to start teh ball rolling on renting something. not saying more till its a confirmed, still have to get through referencing etc.

Inlaws have gone home. MiL averaged 3 flounces a day. & got huffy about boy not responding to her. ( FFS hes 3 and playing tractors, why would he WANT to have a story read). boy pulled a couple of good tantrums this weekend too. ( not suprisingly when his granny destroyed his tractor "hill" by removing half teh newspaper it was made of WHILE he was playing with it). My favourite flounce was. FiL saying he will go and buy ice creams, MiL insists that SHE will go and buy Ice creams pulling about 3.50 out of her pocket ( there were 5 of us), but, FiL has to give her some money. "No", says FiL," I'm getting them", " then I don't want one" flounced MiL sitting down again folding her arms and sulking. DH and I had to stop ourselves laughing. She had one of course in teh end.

So I bring to teh tea room, some slightly bloomy but once very nice chocs that MiL left us and the dregs of red wine. enjoy.

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:17

Ha ha UniS sounds like you had 2 three year olds in the house! Bless your MiL!!!

Llandb welcome to the tea room! like those socks!

CMOT welcome back. Yes, Daisyboy loves work. He comes fairly often and a couple of my colleagues are good friends so know DaisyBoy from home too... he wanders round saying "let's say hello to some more people", goes up and down in the mirrored lift, has water from the water fountain, plays on my computer and then goes for lunch at the Italian greasy spoon where they make a fuss of him and he eats pasta - what's not to like!

Catita fingers crossed and waiting for an update on Kittenito

We have had good weekend, but a bit emotionally fraught (both me and DaisyBoy, mostly at different times ) we were a bit tired I guess! Went to see the soldiers changing guard this morning and it was cancelled - I ask you. poor daisyboy his little face just crumpled and he howled - I felt so bad.... he was so excited, he'd been marching up and down with a stick and everything.... heh ho. I shall write to the Queen and complain I think....

....ooops

..... I am the Queen

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:19

Dear Me

Please do not cancel Changing my Guard without remembering and without telling your son, Daisyboy

Love Me

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:19

Dear Me

You are a daft old bat. If you can't remember where you have put your own soldiers, let alone your own son, you probably don't deserve to rule

Love Me

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:20

Dear Me

Watch it. That kind of talk can get one into trouble. Such words as "bat" are considered treason in some circles. For heaven's sake don't swop the "b" for a "tw" or you will be thrown into the Tower

Love Me

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:21

Dear Me

Good point. I might be mistaken for the leader of my opposition in Government.

But, hang on a moment. Who is going to thrown me into the tower. I am the Queen after all!

Love Me

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 00:22

Dear Me

I will

Love Me

llandb · 03/08/2009 10:53

Thanks for the merlot, daisy - I had to quaff it quick-smart so the corgis couldn't get it

UniS · 03/08/2009 13:07

dear Daisy- I really think you need to get to bed earlier! you do seem to be losing teh plot slightly. and STOP shouting off with her head, it won't do any good, no one is listening.

Hi llandb I 1st thought you might be a railway, but then I saw it was 2 ls . The landb is/ was the lynton and barnstable railway. friend of mine works there.
And any how , railways seldom fall asleep in tea rooms, tho they often have tea rooms to fall asleep in...

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 15:57

ha ha ha! Off with their heads!!!

ha ha ha!

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 15:59

that's better

afternoon all! Here is some tea (lapsang for your llandb and builders for me)

are you feeling like telling us a little about yourself other than your stripey socks? Are you a train?!?

I am the queen and I have one boy called DaisyBoy who is 3 and who loves life, and soldiers and recently he has started to say when he grows up he is going to be a mummy

I have a DH who is currently away on An Expedition - the tea room are divided as to whether he is Bear Grylls or Benedict Allen.

Sadly he is neither. Not that he isn't lovely of course....

whether you tell us anything or not, you are very welcome - a woman who drinks tea, falls asleep and is on the wine at 10am is welcome here!!!

daisy99divine · 03/08/2009 16:00

of course, assuming you are a woman. If you are a trucker called dave you are probably just as welcome....

right, better go and do some stuff. Proclamations I think are next on the list...

Jacksmama · 03/08/2009 17:21

Hi everyone!!
We are back home, all the wash has been done and my house is somewhat back in order. We have had the most incredible heat wave here. It seems we followed the heat wave down the coast on our holidays - to California and then back home again. There were some days when it was just monstrous. Thank goodness the camper had air con.
It was a really fun trip. We found a magical campground in Oregon on our way south, Howard Prairie Lake Resort. We took the difficult way up, 17 miles of very winding unevenly canted switchback-y road. DH was a little stressed at the end of it. But the campground made it all worth it, it was in miles of forest by a lake. To skip ahead, on our way back we stayed there several days.
California was fun, too, although a completely packed programme. Five days at Disneyland (although not full days every day), two days at Universal Studios, one day in Santa Monica (where there are miles and miles and miles of gorgeous sandy beaches and we played in the ocean and on the water the entire afternoon and came back brown as ducks' eggs) and several shopping expeditions.
Phew!!
And of course the tea room meet-up which was so, so, so nice. I am all over when I think of it.
By the time we drove home, however, we were all tired of living in such close quarters. Three adults (me, DH and my young half-sister from Germany) and a toddler in a 27-foot camper... gah. We were all glad to come home and be able to spread out a little. Now we just have to find things to do to amuse my HS for 2 weeks. She is 20, and has no tolerance for boredom . Sitting around and relaxing is foreign to her. Oh well. I have to admit that I have been suffering from a slight overdose of family the last few days. So I shall now escape into my garden and deadhead my flowers etc.

Hugs to everyone with troubles right now. UniS, wishing you the best of luck with househunting, I hope you find something quickly. Thumb, how is the Great Visa Quest of 2009 going? And Catita, more ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) and (((((((((((LOVE)))))))))))) to you and Kittenito than I could possibly fit onto this page.
And to everyone else, of course, as well - I have tried to read back and if I've missed anyone, which I usually, do, my apologies.
Oh and welcome, llandb and Goldensnitch. BTW, has anyone seen the new Harry Potter movie yet? It makes me laugh when I think of how I saw the last two on opening day... and now there is Jackbaby... and I haven't been near a movie theatre since I was pregnant!

teafortwo · 03/08/2009 18:34

Hee hee hee at daisy!

Lots of good wishes for Kittenito and Catita!!! xxxx

Racingsnake - I am constantly switching between our computer (Froggy keyboard) and my laptop (Rosbif keyboard) - hense my constant 'q' for 'a' typos on mn!!! And by the way Cannes rocks.... Beerfortwo was born there!!!!!

I am currently at my parent's place - Milk is bombing up and down outside on a scooter - wooohoooo - countryside bliss!

llandb - would you like another cup of your lovely smelling tea? That one seems to have gone cold!

UniS · 03/08/2009 19:04

Ms sawyers is still rubbish at Statistics tho... a plane crashing makes it no more or less likely that any other plane will crash... grrr, silly woman.

My current guess on Daisybloke is that he is some sort of wildlife camera man. Now chasing endangered wildlife in teh rain forest.

For any newcomers- a quick potted UniS follows.
I live in devon, have one boy and one dh. I like trains, but not obsessively. I also like other forms of wheeled transport believing that the higher the ratio of people to wheels the better. 1:1 is my favourite. I do random stuff for a living, often outdoors and involving electricity. I am trying to move house, its been taking a long time ( about 18 months so far).

Catitainahatita · 03/08/2009 19:34

Hello all,
Thank you all for your kind wishes and thoughts. Kittenito is back home now, pretty much as good as new, although a little swollen and sore. He's holding up quite well and the painkillers seem to be keeping him from suffering. All went well, I stopped over night as Dh soon capitulated in front of a wee boy who wanted his MAMI and he wanted her NOW. (Still he was much more welcoming of papi on Satruday morning, as I was, I seeing as I had a bout 1-2 hours sleep max.)

We're off work/nursery for a week (me and Kittenito that is) on Drs. orders, so its an added bonus of a holiday (ish).

I hope you are all well and happy. Welcome to llandb . I promise a potted history later.

mistlethrush · 03/08/2009 21:54

So glad kittenito is OK Catita! Will no doubt be in similar traumas when MJ has to have his ear OP (mending perforation) although I think it will be a day proceedure only.

BBQ on Sun at MJ's friends house. No car (dh had it and was out) - took my courage on board and MJ and I went on my bike and tag-along. Ok
, we did walk up some of the hills which I'm sure Unis would have managed. However, the two of us got there safely (to much admiration from fellow school-mates and their parents)(who actually had a go on it to see if they'd get on if they hired on hols), MJ played happily, ate lots (to great admiration particularly in terms of the salad consuption) and played happily all afternoon. THe only wailing was when we decided that we'd have to go - he wanted to stay longer - and then we got home safely too!

llandb · 03/08/2009 22:01

Hello! Sorry, didn't give a very good intro! I'm a bit zoned IRL tonight (not enough lapsang) and off for a kip, most uncharacteristic as I'm usually a night owl, so my apologies for being incoherent.

Well, that's very exciting news about landb and I feel that it confers much-needed street-cred! Um, lemme see... so all the names I would usually use were taken; feeling lazy and not understanding how things worked, I thought, aha, an acronym! But with a version of gin and tonic taken, I took it as a sign to stick to the Lemon, Lime and Bitters!

I think if I drink lapsang and build a l-landb then lapsang gets promoted to a category of builders tea

About me - I am a hobbit (female) with one DD aged 1 and a tiny bit, a lovely DP (male) and probably lots of creepy-crawleys because I'm a slattern :D

'Night all, may disappear for a few days (visitors!) so sorry to come in and then sleep!

UniS · 03/08/2009 22:06

HI MT- we have had to accelerate Boys bike lessons a bit, he is now learning to ride on teh road!!!! on his solo bike. If all goes well we move to teh sticks in less than a month and the village under dartmoor has almost no pavements. So, if he is to continue cycling to get to toodlers and the park which are not very far away (less than a mile) he will have to ride on the road. Tandem won't be ready in time and any how isn't right for going to the rec to mess about. So far we are just doing him riding on VVVV quiet road, and a fair bit of bike path riding together. He rides in front and has to do what I ask (or he's in trouble and back on the pavement). eeeek. its bit earlier than i planned, but needs must. He is now faster on his bike than I can walk with and I don't want to run after him every where - not practical with shopping any how.

Work is looking interesting, I'm being asked about stuff for NEXT year already.
