Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

1000 replies

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

I'm glad that your news is pretty much good (in is own way) Donk. Hopefully your Dad can enjoy what time he has left and not have such a horrible scare again.

thumbwitch · 14/03/2009 19:04

evening all
jacksmama - that is so sad about your friend but how lucky you both are to have found and known each other. I am so glad for her that she has you to talk to when she can't talk to her family - what a privilege. A horrible way to go though - I hope for her sake that things work out so that she doesn't suffer too much.

catita - DS actually had quite a good night, thanks - am really glad (today) that I took the Wise Women of the Yurt's advice - I hope it continues tomorrow! DS went down in his cot ok, slept for nearly 5hours before waking for a feed, and went back in cot no problem and slept through til about 8:30am. Fab! So long as it works again tonight...

Donk - Glad your Dad is going for radiotherapy - mine started his yesterday for his prostate cancer and so far feels fine but then it was only the first dose! it apparently takes about 3 weeks before the effects start to be really felt, i.e. the progressive tiredness.

thumbwitch · 14/03/2009 19:05

Whoops, bad memory of what had been said - sorry Donk, hope your Dad agrees to for radiotherapy - imo a better option than chemo, anyway.

mistlethrush · 14/03/2009 19:36

((((((((JM)))))))) Sorry to hear about your friend. Its so difficult to see people going down hill like that. Its lovely though that she has had the pleasure of Jackbaby to cheer her up.

My father was recently feeling really low following an op for a detached retina - luckily a card that MJ had done specially helped and cheered him up alot.

Donk - I'm glad things seem to be working out a bit better with your father.

TW - so glad to hear that you've had a good night!!!! Lets hope that you have more of these than bad ones from now on! You will, of course, still have bad ones - I mean, I was up with MJ last night at about 3am - he woke up as he needed to go to the loo!

Hi Zazen! At last, there's someone here that might have some chance of getting the NMBs under control! How are you doing?

Saturday night... anyone want a cocktail instead of our usual tipple (I suppose that we could always make it champagne cocktails anyway!)

UniS · 14/03/2009 19:55

If you are quick- there is poor quality pic on my photos page ,of me in my PRIZE WINNING mexican fancy dress from last night. I won a spot prize for the outfit of my main course free. Which made it a nice cheap night out.

We ate lots, drank a bit, talked lots.
That particular bunch of mums are my RL tea room, we get together on a friday morning to drink tea and ignore our children.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/03/2009 21:02

Did someone mention cocktails?

Congratulations on your prize, Unis.

(((Hugs))) to Jacksmama from me, too.

Donk - that sounds like good (in the circumstances) news from your dad. Have an (((aromatherapy ear rub))) and galvanised bucket of tea.

Racingsnake - I thought of you this afternoon, when I was sitting watching MadBadBaby dangling from the top of the slide at the soft play centre.

And three cheers for baby sleeping bags!

Right. Who else wants a cocktail or will Mistle and I have to drink them all? I'm feeling in need of some exercise, so I've donned my batwing sleeved jumper and ra-ra skirt and am going to have a little retro bop.

Donk · 14/03/2009 21:08
Donk · 14/03/2009 21:09

(MBDTK - am I allowed to know how old you are - sprightly as you look!?)

I'm 47

mistlethrush · 14/03/2009 21:26

MB - Mistle dons dons rara skirt and batwing sleeved jumper and raises you pixie boots...

Slurp

Anyone else joining us for a cocktail?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/03/2009 21:40

Fie to your legwarmers, Mistlethrush! I raise you purple legwarmers and a Fame sweatshirt!

Donk - I have appointed myself the honorary old biddy of the tea room/yurt and I feel that revealing my age would destroy the mystique. Suffice it to say that I am very very old and yet (as this is the magic of the yurt) still in my prime. But 47 is a very fine age to be - is that in woman years or donkey years?

This is delicious. What's in it? Or is it wiser not to ask?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/03/2009 21:47

Err. That was fie to your pixie boots, Mistle.

What did you put in this cocktail? It's extremely potent.

UniS · 14/03/2009 22:48

ohh mirror balls.... UniS is lost watching the pretty lights.

Cocktail- don;t mind if I do, don;t know what they are called but somthing fruity will do.
Workingtomorrow- goingto be a swine of a day with no breaks, so will takle big pack lunch and nibble all day. 2 shows, 11 dance pieces per show, only 2 pieces are performed in both shows, only 3 pices I've seen before. AND its a lighting desk I don;t find intuitive.

Amber- were you sat in front of the TV watching rugby all afternoon? DH offered to do 2 house viewings while I took boy out of teh way, as we were leaving he admited he would be watching teh rugby inbetween veiwings and that was why he had offered to do them.

Racingsnake · 14/03/2009 22:51

Evening all.

Wriggle only sick once today, on a tranpoline. At someone else;s house. Dh wants her to go to the doctor, but I can;t see what they can do about a cough.

Dh started moving furniture about today and we/i test drove a car. i think he might actually be getting better.

Test drive was quite good, apart from the fact that I didn't check how to put the car into reverse before setting off. I drove a couple of miles then turned up a farm track to turn round and couldn;t get into reverse to get back out again. I struggled and sweated and wondered how long they would leave it before sending out a search party. Since that appeared not to be forthcoming, I managed to drive far enough up the (luckily slightly sloping) track to get the car to roll back far enough onto the road to rurn round. Salesman must have thought I was a complete idiot. How typical a woman driver is that.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/03/2009 23:00

Hello, racingsnake.

Mistle has mixed this pitcher of amazingly potent cocktail - would you like some? UniS is having one.

Thinking more about UNiS's professional expertise, I now fear that these glitter balls are somewhat amateurish. Perhaps UniS could devise something more dramatic, to illuminate the dance floor?

Are you still there, Mistle? Or have the pixie boots given you blisters? I see on another thread that you're an expert on willow growing. Do you think we could get Mellors to build us a willow wigwam down near the haha? The bison seems to have left, so it should be quite safe there now.

Donk · 14/03/2009 23:44

MBDTK As a womanly donkey, I would have to admit that the years apply equally to both (so to speak)

Night all

And if anyone sees CMOT, could they please point her in my direction? Thanks

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 15/03/2009 21:28

Hello? Hello? Is anyone here?

Donk · 15/03/2009 21:30

Sorry MBDTK - look what happened last night when someone let me near the cocktails!
Donkeys and alcohol are immiscible!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 15/03/2009 21:44
Donk · 15/03/2009 22:05

That looks safer! Thankyou, just what I needed.

Is that noise the NNMBs?

Here - this seems to be more generally popular than carrots in the raw.

UniS · 15/03/2009 22:11

I'm off duty- i'm not lighting the yurt disco, mirror balls and pin spots will do for now.
Have lit 24 dance pieces today. that is enough.

NOt joining you on the bolly, up early and off to boring PAT testing in teh morning. So how about one of teh tea room famous thick gloopy hot chocolates with marshmallows and sprinkes instead.
Boy not right- off his grub, says his tummy hurts occasionally, had a minor poo accicdent, but basicly his normal happy self... Probadly will send him to nursery but won't be too suprised if I have to go and collect him early.

I'll do a willow teepee for teh next incarnation of teh tea room, just about Ok to do living willow this time of year ( unless teh tea room is in cornwall ). I've done annual trim an d re-use on the two willow structures at local childrens centre in the last couple of weeks. Would you like a willow caterpillar as well? They make nice wiggly tunnels for kiddy exploring.

Donk · 15/03/2009 22:16

The tea was lovely, Thankyou.

  • help yourself to carrot cake UniS (and anyone else)

I'm off to my hay pile
Night all

mistlethrush · 15/03/2009 22:28

Sorry, just back from rehearsal...

UniS - did the dance show go OK?

Donk - sorry about the influence of the cocktail last night - it was one of those ones where' you're not quite sure what's gone in, but it needs a bit of something else to get it to be the right colour...

Madbad - willow - actually don't have a willow structure in the garden (although might make one sometime) - I have, however, got two willows - one kept down to 6" every year, the other (planted at the same time - brought branch and stuck it in the ground when we moved) is at about 6' where I pollard it - although try to retain 1yrs growth on 1/2 so that we always have a good show of coloured branches in the winter.

UniS · 15/03/2009 22:35

dance show was fine, some very good pices in teh 1st show. just a very busy day.

OP posts:
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 15/03/2009 22:35

'Twould be lovely if you'd supervise the willow structures. A caterpillar would be delightful. I'm sure Mellors would help you.
