Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

You wouldn't have appreciated me in your training Amber - I always asked the awkward questions that the trainers I had said 'I'll get back to you on that one' and never did... (although I'm sure that you would have coped admirably!)

daisy99divine · 12/03/2009 15:17

Morning all
sorry to miss the great Wham and sorrier to miss Mistle clutching the rabbit with pancake

While it might not have helped at the time, UniS I am going to print off your assessment of why we are so blessed in life the fact that we have our yurty yurt says it all - that made me smile a lot

Mistle, some days are hard. Having or not having bubbas is so emotive. I think that we don't ever really end up with the lives we anticipated but for some reason the child thing is harder to bear than most. No, strike that, than all really.

I know how extraordinarly lucky I am to have one DS and in fact as time passes I realise that an only suits our family dynamics best although if I had been able to conceive wtih ease between teh sheets (as they say) I am sure I woudl have had mroe than one

You have so much on your plate - DH, illness, gloomy economics, eating problems with MJ etc it is not surprising you let the lack Dog in through the door...

daisy99divine · 12/03/2009 15:18

that should have said Black Dog. In deference to Nick Drake (pops CD on shelf)

Tea anyone?

CMOTDibbler · 12/03/2009 15:41

Tea would be lovely.

MT - a sympathetic pat to you. Last week was one of those where 3 different people asked me if we'd be having another soon. And even though I'm happy with having one child, it always gives me a bit of a blue patch to think about when we were TTC.
And with all you have going on atm, you are bound to be stressed.

I ebayed my pushchair/pram this week. Pretty much the last of the real baby stuff - seems like drawing a line under things, which was a bit

DS is an owl today. I will get a photo later and add to my profile

Off to visit my parents this weekend while DH goes to the rugby. This will not be relaxing in the least, but they haven't seen DS since Christmas, and dad refused to come and visit. He's a bit down as they have finally come to the point of getting a downstairs bathroom put in - I think he feels its the downward slope

Catitainahatita · 12/03/2009 16:16

Tea please, Daisy. I'm sure I can stomach it in the yurt. In rl, things are a little wobbly today.

CMOT: Looking forward to picture of DS as an owl. I hope he has a good day hooting and swooping. I also hope you weekend goes better than expected. Perhaps DS will cheer up your parents somewhat.

MT: You have got so much to deal with atm that I think you might be feeling a little overwhelmed. I think you could do with a night on the sofa with a nice drink and MN. We'll spoil you here in the yurt; I can't promise more Wham dancing; but, I'm sure we'll think of something. I'll get Mellors to dust off the peppermint oil and get the shed transformed into a massage parlour.

Donk: same goes for you too. It sounds like you are suffering.

mistlethrush · 12/03/2009 16:52

That's an idea!

Cup of tea would be good.

Ds is EXTREMELY tired - had complete break down in floods of tears when we got home (basically was howling at anything) and he has now demanded his supper - which is a lot earlier than normal. So I think he will be in bed early this evening.

He got a sticker today for letting one of his friends hold the 'ring' with one of his other friends which I think was lovely - but then that broke down into 'I don't have any friends' etc. I have suggested that if he stops roaring at everyone and frightening them (especially the girls) more people might be friends with him

Parent's evening next week. Teacher has already said to me (we had a quick chat the other morning) that, although she is very experienced and has been teaching small boys for years, she still needs to have ds at the back of her mind all the time. Little monkey

thumbwitch · 12/03/2009 16:56

afternoon all!
MT - sorry to hear of your blue moments, hope things get a bit sunnier for you and DS cheers up

Catita - sympathies! hope the nausea fades off quickly

Donk and RS - healing vibes to your DC (and Donk too!)

Daisy - tea would be great, ta. Is it too early for toasted hot cross buns? My lovely friend who babysat for DS while I had my back cracked this afternoon has left us a packet - can't eat them in RL (wheat ishoos) but a virtual one would be fab, with oodles of melting butter - yum!

Donk · 12/03/2009 17:24

I teach in Secondary Schools - I sometimes think that the younger ones can sense the ears somehow - the older ones are far too hide bound. "What the mind doesn't want to see" and all that.

thumbwitch · 12/03/2009 17:42

Donk are you talking about your donkey ears?

Catitainahatita · 12/03/2009 17:45

[confusion emoticon]

Donk · 12/03/2009 17:47

Definitely donkey ears!

Catitainahatita · 12/03/2009 18:18

Quick question: what's your subject Donk? I'm kind of guessing something humanities based??

Am I off track totally?

thumbwitch · 12/03/2009 20:48

that's ok then - for a minute I thought you had missed a letter off and meant they can sense the fears and then realised I was being dim!

One of the things that always put me off teaching children was the knowledge that they not only can smell insecurity a mile off but will exploit it to the full. I much prefer teaching adults who want to be there.

daisy99divine · 12/03/2009 23:20

Donk I imagine you as a sort of inverted Bottom in school - the ears are there, the kids just can't see them. How do they respond to you eating carrots, drinking tea out of a galvanised bucket and going to sleep in piles of hay

Mistle come over here to the sofa, Mellors is all ready with his peppermint foot balm. I think he has just drawn a bath (sorry Amber, turned on the taps and run a bath ) upstairs and filled it with lavendar foam and special herbs for the sore of soul

CMOT how did your weekend with DH away go? Glad Tiddler is swooping - did his World Book Day owliness go well? From which receptacle are you eating your supper tonight?

Catita hope you are not too sick?

I'm off to bed, first time before about 2am for a long while and I am soooooo tired!

mellorsthegardenerofsorts · 12/03/2009 23:24

That ER is really good isn't it? Give a lad some fashion nouse!

Now, who is up for the first massage?

Mistle? Donk?

Come, ladies, don't be shy.

In a few hours I've got to get outside in the freezing cold and do some more ballet rehearsals with MadBad

nakedmowhawkbaby · 12/03/2009 23:26

COME ON BOYS!! Let's party!!!

Heh! there's a hot bath up here!

amber32002 · 13/03/2009 07:02

Good fun yesterday with all those car dealership site inspections, but lots of mileage. Later today, I'm off to the wilds of the country again for another weekend of rest and relaxation with dh. Excellent.

How's everyone this morning?

CMOTDibbler · 13/03/2009 08:33

Did the landy bear up well to all those miles ? I want a Defender, but still can't really justify having one. But having grown up in a community where everyone learnt to drive in an nth hand landy where bits fell off regularly, I hold them in great affection.

Where are you off to this weekend ? Tonight I shall be hacking down across the Cotswolds to Oxford and beyond in a happy fug of snoring DS, and TP audio book, before facing the parents.

Daisy - it was just a night out with DH. Next weekend we are going out again (ball dress !), and then the one after that is FILs 70th where we are all staying out (but DS has to sleep in a pushchair during dinner)

Owl picture on my profile. He was a very happy little owl,but they are all mental with being dressed up - no naps yesterday

DH off to the horses later - who do we think he should bet on ?

mistlethrush · 13/03/2009 09:09

Sorry I didn't make it back down after the bath - but you'll be glad to hear that I managed to get out of the bathroom before it was invaded by the nmbs... The lavendar was very relaxing so went straight to bed.

In fact, we had a major electricity cut - street lights and everything. Very glad that we recently installed a 'normal' phone in addition to the handsfree - that one was still working so that when the alarm people rang up they got an answer and we didn't have an emergency call out set up for the house! It did take me a little while to remember where the torch was - then find the matches so that I could light a candle, but it meant I was off-line - I couldn't get it working again and dh was out playing so I couldn't ask him....

Cup of tea with those free range eggs and toast soldiers Amber?

thumbwitch · 13/03/2009 09:26

oo, CMOTD - he makes a lovely little Wol, doesn't he! Awwwww.

morning all - glad your leccy is back on MT, we had a couple of powercuts one evening 2 weeks ago - that was fun, running round lighting candles everywhere. Luckily I have many candles already in place - and more since I had a looong powercut last winter (about 4hours, so not that long really!) - so it wasn't too traumatic. We have an open fire so I know where the matches are as well (next to it).

I quite like Landrovers - I borrowed one for a couple of weeks when my car got stolen 15 years ago - it was one like you describe, CMOTD, old and less than whole but great fun to drive - and there weren't that many huge tank-cars on the road then so I did feel a bit "special". Couldn't justify buying one now though!

amber - sounds like you have a lovely weekend ahead of you - are you going somewhere lovely?

mistlethrush · 13/03/2009 09:28

I had a lift in a really old landrover once - it had individual switches for the windscreen wipers on the two sides - and the passenger one you had to hold on!!!

thumbwitch · 13/03/2009 09:29

that's funny. I had a lift in a very old skoda once that had a shoelace attached to the windscreenwiper so that you could operate it manually from within the car...

thumbwitch · 13/03/2009 09:42

have just noticed red nose day smileys - so thought I should draw your attention to them - wouldn't want Tech to think his efforts went unappreciated now, would we!

amber32002 · 13/03/2009 09:53

Cmot, little Owl is so cute!!

MT, yes please. Have now managed to pack half the household contents for our weekend in Somerset in a little village, and am contemplating doing the hoovering and the ironing before the last bits go into the case.

We ended up taking the Olde Jag rather than the (t)rusty Landrover in the end. He needed a decent run-out, so thought he deserved a bit of a trip round the counties. We never exceeded the speed limit at all, honest, officer, especially not on that long straight

So, who to bet on for the races? Why, Earl Grey of course. Just pushing him into the horsebox now...and the NMBs have volunteered to be the jockey, they said.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 13/03/2009 10:04

Morning all!

Sorry not be around last night, those ballet rehearsals were very intensive. You should see Mellors' entrechats!

All that exercise has left me feeling rather peckish. Would anyone else like some toast?

Cmot - Your wol is very cute. Thanks too for last week's insurance advice. I rang on Monday to kick butt ask for a progress report and they took the wind out of my sails by saying that the other party had just coughed up and they would be sending me my cheque soon!
