Tea room the 5th - welcome to the yurt

UniS · 24/02/2009 10:49

Welcome to the tea room. A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

You have found us- did you like teh slide/ bridge over teh HaHa. Teh priest hole is still available, its just over there.

Mellors and I have erected the yurt, strewn rugs around and good a good fire going in the wood burner. The place is feeling toasty and warm with not a draft to be felt. The kettle is now singing away on the hob. selection of teas for all taste on the shelf along with the hand made by potters mugs. Mellors very ably fitted teh yurt window with a window sill onto which can be placed a selection of pot plants and george.

Can someone sort out RP ( who I think came over with the sofa) and plump up the hay pile for donk.

oh, getting a bit obsessed with the lists too! and glad Zazen is back here and one of us, not a Man in Black!

thumbwitch · 01/03/2009 01:27

oops, missed you Daisy - got to go to bed now, night!

zazen · 01/03/2009 01:38

Oh Hurray Donk, so pleased to hear that he's come round and that they got it 'all'.

I love Oxford too thumbwitch and MadBad, and anyone else ! Sounds like a lovely expedition.
My Dd loves her trains, but she gives up walking after about half an hour, and needs to get a piggy back... and she's three and a half stone now... so I empathise.
Have you tried putting your tootsies in a bucket, or similar, of hotish water and mustard? Then cold water with peppermint oil? And then, lying down on the floor, with bum to skirting board, and putting your legs up the wall for 10 minutes or so?

Interesting... I wonder how mnay of us sleep with smallies / without hulking DHs?
I kicked my snoring Dh out of our bed, as I need my sleep
I might let him back in soon, if he behaves

Personally I like the idea of having a 'no warlords' policy, Don'tCallMeBaby, and we have none on our books. We got rid of a rather 'grey' client last week and I feel good about that. So no! they're not sleeping with the fishes now!

How poo is that CMOTD so to speak? Hope you enjoyed the trip out to the farm anyway?
Those Lenten lectures sound very interesting.. I love popping into the local Uni's Classics Department to hear interesting things about Goddesses, and women and spirituality. It's all good

Oh, I do adore little madcap lambies! All that bouncing round and exuberant gamboling fills my heart with major jollies. I think they just might be my favourite and my best

zazen · 01/03/2009 01:50

OOps, missed you also Daisy! Your DS sounds fantastic weeing in the coffee cup! Bless.

Jacksmama · 01/03/2009 02:08

If I can add a quick wee/ willy story - when I undress Jackbaby for his bath, he grins like a little madman and pats his lovely little poppy belly, and then runs down the hallway - presumably because running naked is such a great feeling - it is the most hilarious sight ever...

...(quick aside) apart from watching my very old venerable gentleman cat (a skinny ginger tabby) dip his paw in my glass of wine and lick it off!!!! Sadly, I let him, because it's so funny and he's so old ...

... so a few days ago, he was running around naked (Jackbaby, not the cat), and caught sight of "the baby in the mirror" (his favourite game, playing with the baby in the mirror, he will no doubt grow up to be extremely vain judging by how much he admires himself), and, when he caught sight of the baby in the mirror's willy, bent over and grabbed it!! (His own, that is.)

We were howling with laughter especially because then he walked about for a few minutes holding it firmly, like he thought it would run away , and then suddenly did a wee!! Only a little one, though - and the look of surprise as he looked at his wet hand!!!! My bladder control (which has been a bit more since the op) was in serious danger!!!

Catitainahatita · 01/03/2009 02:59

Jacksmama My DS, more or less the same age, is already willy obsessed. He plays with it after his bath and once his nappy is back on tries hard to get his hand under the elastic.
I had a a nosey at your pics. Jackbaby is very cute. Congratulations. Your jewelry is also very fab. Am very impressed. My only craftlike skill is baking (!) which having seen other MNs creations is nothing to boast about.

Zazan DS's bunny used to be my bunny. My Grandma made him for me when I was a baby. So, he has been christened a number of times in the last thirty-odd years. Still he's very good about having a regular bath and scrub. (Although he's not too keen on the being dried in the oven but).

I brought a bag of gifts in with me tonight:
For Donk more onea special blanket to lie on, if the waiting up for the phonecalls or the making of said calls is too exhausting.
For Madbad a food spa machine...
For CMOT a miniture farm set to give to her DS to pretend to feed the lambs with.
A book of "inspirational bible study groups on Revelations" for Justabout.
"I love Oxford" T-shirts for Zazen, Thumbwitch, Mistlethrush and Daisy
Chocolate buttons for DCMB's DD and a lovely bottle of Bailey's for her.
A snowmobile for *Jacksmama" and more "te anglais" for Tea.

Me, I'm just going to have a quiet whisky by the fire and watch Mellors chop logs (does the man bever sleep?)

teafortwo · 01/03/2009 10:43

Wow - what a lot of busy people!

We spent yesterday starting to sort the flat out a bit as we have no builders for five days, while they wait for the windows, we wanted to get a bit more on-top of things ourselves. I had a problem though - I seriously couldn't see through the mess. I was becoming increasingly exhausted and terribly emotional (builders depression). I remember a cry of "Our flat is always going to look like a bomb-site boo hoo!!!! I am never going to be able to invite round the Muldavianes again." (in our apartment block we are all known by our nationalities as it is a bit tricky to say each other's names - we are les angais and like the English in general get blamed for being noisy and not joining in - tbh - fairplay it is us who usually make lots of noise and we do always forget to go to the annual ten thousand hours meeting to discuss building politics !)

I gave up with the cleaning and Beer and Milk were delighted when I suggested I left them to it and disappeared to a nearby cinema screen to see 'Miss Pettigrew lives for a day'. Not a masterpiece as such but a costume drama about good things happening to good people and perfect sweet escapism. On the way home I bought a bottle of champagne to celebrate the works being so nearly finished and Beer and I sipped our way through the bottle while I spent the evening admiring Beer and Milk's achievements on the tidying up front which seemed to involve not actually putting things away but instead making piles of things all over the apartment - I think they wanted to leave the glory of actually putting things in cupboards to me !

mistlethrush · 01/03/2009 12:42

That sounds encouraging Tea! What's left to do?

My hair is still wet from its wash this morning. It is ridiculous how long it takes to dry.

I sent dh and MJ out on the dog walk on their own - I'm still not feeling right and I thought I had better save my energy for this afternoon's birthday party that we're going to - one of ds's best friends, who we're also doing some shared care with in holidays. In fact, might see if we can make a time when we can work out what both families are doing over the summer - there is a summer holiday camp that we might put MJ in for a couple of weeks - again, if his friends were there at the same time I think it would be helpful.

Do you think that we should design a T room tshirt collection? It would be quite a good thing to be able to sell when the movie comes out.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 01/03/2009 13:27

Daisy - whaddya mean incoherent? All my posts are perfectly lucid, thank you very much!

Thank you very much, Catita, much for the foot spa

Sadly, must go now. Grumpy husband needs to be assuaged.

Oh good idea re t-shirt collection mt!

Here is the t-shirt for my character

The shower room is completely finished bar the window and the kitchen needs two days work to change tiles and work surface (it is having a face-lift while the shower room was a rip out and start again job). We are not quite there but there is a huge light at the end of the tunnel which is lovely.

CMOTDibbler · 01/03/2009 15:13

DS currently napping as totally worn out after exciting time at the farm

His little life was complete - he cuddled guinea pigs, a lamb, a chick, scratched a pigs back (his new trick having been shown last week how they go all weak at the knees for it), petted the alpaca, reindeer and donkey, and chased a duck. Drove mini tractors and diggers, saw an owl close up. Bounced.

The place wasn't as good as our usual farm visit, which is very uncommercial and quiet, but it did the trick.

Tea - sounds like you have had a real time of it with the builders. Nice that the light is starting to shine.

In the Boat Race, I'm an Oxford supporter. However its a bit love/hate as I grew up near Oxford, and the University boat crews are actually based in that town. As a junior rower, they were quite incredibly rude to us -so hence the animosity.

Pitt Rivers museum is fab, as is the music museum

amber32002 · 01/03/2009 15:39

Phew, just back from the Cotswolds where I've been persuading dh to relax and rest. Wonderful! Meantime ds has been playing his first rugby game for the county League for almost a year and thoroughly enjoying himself.

Racingsnake · 01/03/2009 16:42

Exciting news at Chateau Racing! RacingPig has a friend. We went to a poultry auction this morning and came back with two guinea pigs, one chicken drinker and a big food hopper, for the grand total of £23. Gave one little pig away immediately, as it was a boy and I do not fancy populating the South West of England with guinea pigs. Poor little girl pig is rather traumatised out in cage wtih RP. Don't know if she will be visiting the tearoom, or if she will be a Mannering's wife type pig.

I wanted a rabbit, but WS was adamant.

We are now cold and tired and WS has been saying for hours that she was bored. Soon I will have to admit I understand what she is saying.

Jacksmama · 01/03/2009 17:08

Good morning all!
Thank you very much catita for the snowmobile, but we are trying not to challenge Mother Nature again right now so we hid it very quickly in MIL'd barn!! I'm sure it will come in most handy in December though.

On a note, my mum and stepdad are flying to Cuba today for a much-needed and well-deserved holiday in the sun. As Langley has been promised nothing but rain for the next several days I'm slightly but hoping they'll have an excellent time!

Amber, I'm glad you had a lovely time in the Cotswolds and that Mr. Amber rested!

Tea, isn't a kitchen face-lift lovely? We had new countertops and a new sink put in in November... I can now actually go in my kitchen without cringing (the old one was butt-ugly).

RS, what colour is the new girl guinea pig? They're sooo cute

Thank you for the compliments on my jewelry, BTW!!

thumbwitch · 01/03/2009 20:04

oooh, a new g'pig? is she going to be RacingMisspiggy, or something else?

I am a bit dense these days - I was a bit confused at the idea of a chicken drinker, I was imagining a chicken with a 4-pint a day habit

which bit of the Cotswolds, Amber? One of my favourite parts is Burford, especially the Cotswold Wildlife Park there.

UniS · 01/03/2009 20:07

Hello me hearties.

i'm back from panto land. finished panto de rig at midnight, picked up crew for todays dance show at 8am. Did dance show and managed to get home in time for dinner and bedtime for boy for first time in a week.

its looking like boy might need another bike soon, hes only got another few cm till hes out grown his balance bike. so shall we get him a pedals bike for his birthday ( in a fortnight) can;t think of any thing much else he could do with for birthday, so could put any money he get from GPS towards it. He will need another bike before christmas for sure.

Jacksmama - any more snow? Apparently Juneau had a beautiful sunny day (Aunt and dogs went for a walk on the frozen lake, along with all the rest of the inhabitants)

Apparently all looks well on Dad's CT scan - but he is heartily fed up with being in hospital and an old rib injury is causing a lot of pain from all the lying down (I think it was fired up by the hard bench he had to lie on for the MRI a few days a go - he has said he wouldn't have bothered with the op if he had known how difficult it was going to be. I think it is the sleep deprivation and pain talking, but 'tis difficult for him)

The ear rubs are in serious danger of sending me to sleep - Dad is not the only sleep deprived person. I fell asleep in Meeting this morning , but I am very happy/grateful that everything seems to have gone as well as possible.

Donk · 01/03/2009 20:41

Justabout - have you ever experienced a reconstruction 15th century mass? I sang in one - even as the choir we were expected (while singing) to stand up, kneel down, turn in different directions, and bow - at appropriate times. That and be over - censed...

(sorry, just got back from a rather nice rehearsal - Gerontius for the first half, then 'when David Heard', Lotti's crucifixus and other nice things to sing....)

No one seems to be drinking tonight - I did find the gin earlier, and a new (unsullied) packet of straws.... ????

thumbwitch · 01/03/2009 22:24

Evening all!
I'm drinking - more than usual, sadly. I was on my usual 1 red wine spritzer and thought I had at least 2 mouthfuls to go, when lo! it was empty! In times past, I would have known who to blame, but not while he's not drinking. Just one of those "I don't remember having the last bit" moments.
So, even more sadly, I felt the need to have another half glass (spritzer).

Went rather well with stewed plums and icecream!

Donk - sounds good(ish) news? apart from the rib thing of course. And the falling asleep inappropriately.

daisy99divine · 02/03/2009 00:59

Mistle. I think I have done your reconstruction C15 mass, except we called it the Hokey Cokey

Yup. I'm drinking. Lots.

Lovely weekend but exhausting. Been swimming and had friend over today - DaisyBoy's best friend with parents. Did roast and all adults and boys sat down at table and ate and chatted. It was almost civilised

Envious of the farm, CMOT and totally envious of RacingMissPiggy, hope she is well, we need some animals!

We are starting to interview for a new nanny next week and I am trying to persuade DH that puppy walking/ training is not the key quality (he is desparate to get next DaisyHound)

Good news Donk, love the pressies Cahtita

I also always fall asleep inappropriately for no good reason. Off to join my boys in bed, yup, we're 3 in a bed. DH says I snore and take up the most room but I am not sure he's right

amber32002 · 02/03/2009 07:23

So pleased that the scan looks better than they first thought, Donk. Still keeping everything crossed.

A new guinea pig for the tea room too? Brilliant!

Thumbwitch, we went to a lovely hamlet by Coln Dennis in the southern Cotswolds - not too far from Bourton on the Water. Excellent pubs at Fosse Cross and at Withington by the mill stream. I do love the Cotswold Wildlife Park - we took the staff there for a family day out with their children a couple of years ago, and they nearly had to drag me out of the place

Can't imagine how people would sleep during our church service/meeting. Ours is very High church with lots of standing/sitting/turning/ book-juggling/handshaking/plate-passing/going to altar and back. Easier to kip in the middle of Piccadilly Circus, I'd think.
