A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

me, me me!! ta very much.

Amber, syrup of onions is best made fresh on requirement - I'm not even sure it can be bought! Take one onion, cut it in half, place both halves cut side up in a bowl. PUt a heaped tablespoon of sugar on the cut side of each half and leave. The sugar draws the onion juice out of the onion, which then dissolves the sugar and lo! you have syrup of onion. Tis an interesting flavour, not as vile as it sounds (think caramelised onions).

Of couse, what you should have in the First Aid cabinet is a bottle of Sambucol, as black elderberry is very good for coughs and sore throats and URTIs as well.

ThumbLoveWitch · 06/02/2009 22:36

I have a valentine's nickname - d'you like it?

UniS · 06/02/2009 22:47

Quiet in here tonight- is there something good on telly?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/02/2009 22:47

Hi Thumbwitch. Here's some champagne. Are Valentine names de rigueur for the fashionable mum-of-one about town? Yours is vairy nice.

ThumbLoveWitch · 06/02/2009 22:50

Ay thank yew, MadBad - I do quite like it.

I don't know about de rigeur, but some people started doing it so I thought, why not? plus ca change and all that.

Shan't bother asking Tech to come up with any valentine smileys though since our dreadfully scarring let down over the Burns Night bunnets

UniS - isn't Wossy on now? I am not watching him because I think he is a fatuous fathead.

UniS · 06/02/2009 22:54

I'm not watching him either- had quite enough of that when I was being paid to do so. not doing it for free. I used to be a follow spot operator on teh 1st seris of his chat show back in very early 90s.

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 06/02/2009 22:57

Oooh, UniS. My tenuous claim to fame is that my friend knows one of the Four Poofs (and possibly the piano too).

ThumbLoveWitch · 06/02/2009 22:58

oh I do like that, MadBad - one of my favourite films ever!

UniS - wow! you're in TV? is that cool or is it not really as cool as people think it is?

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 06/02/2009 23:00

Come on UniS, tell us about your life wiv the stars!

ThumbLoveWitch · 06/02/2009 23:26

UniS, have you gone shy on us? Or were you tempted to peek at Wossy?

JacksmamasLittleBundleOfLOve · 07/02/2009 01:21

Like my Valentine's look?

Not much happening here today, is there?

I've had a day of running errands - Jackbaby and I did the most enormous shop so that there would actually be some food in the house when my mum arrives tomorrow. Isn't she lovely - I am going in hospital Monday morning (only overnight) to have my "repair down there" (my wonderful surgeon is going to fix the damage done last year when they dragged Jackbaby out with forceps) and my sweet mum is coming to take care of me for two weeks. I've been told to lie on the canapee sofa for a week after and be waited on, to make sure there's no stress on my pelvic floor. So mum volunteered to come take care of me. Which means she will be chasing after Jackbaby while I MN rest.

By the way, I looked in on ellymae's thread that t42 asked us to visit, and saw the post that upset Daisy so much a few days ago. I'd like to request that we don't extend an invitation to the tearoom to that particular poster. As zazen said, "I recognize the posting style" - and speaking for myself only, not in a good way. I dislike very few individuals here on MN but she would be one.
Rant over.
As you were.

amber32002 · 07/02/2009 07:57

Jacksmama, goodness, I'll be thinking of you on Monday . Hope it all goes well for you and you get that chance to rest MN afterwards ASAP. I'll stand by with extra comfy cushions for the sofa in here and a nice set of magazines in case you get bored, and I'm sure Mellors can entertain you with a small performance on the Cello/guitar/harmonica/spoons

.

Kettle's on for teas and coffees. I'm about to brave the winter frosts and ice to go to the supermarket (always an experience for a small aspie!). If anyone wants anything in particular for the tearoom, do let me know

Donk · 07/02/2009 08:36

Please could you get some carrots Amber?
(sound of hooves as Donk goes to get breakfast and put on the washing)

teafortwo · 07/02/2009 09:13

Parisfortwo · 07/02/2009 09:53

Daisy - can I see your pics too??? OOOOOHHHHHH - Peeeerrrllleeeease!!!!

I promise, I will try to put some up as well to be fair!

Racingsnake · 07/02/2009 10:34

Lovely names! Don't think Valentines Day applies to me, so won't be changing.

Good luck for Monday, Jacksmama. Take lots of arnica before and after to aid healing and make the most of the leisure time.

Lovely day here, icy cold and sunny.

amber32002 · 07/02/2009 11:08

Phew, made it, with the carrots! They really are lovely in there. I'd picked up something that needed an extra bit, and the lady on the tills told me I could go to find the other bit myself. I must have looked totally because the superviser immediately said she'd go and find it for me (phew). Only one aisle I couldn't go down because of flickering lighting over it, which isn't too bad.

Definitely time for a drink and a slice of carrot cake.

Glad you managed the supermarket Amber - it must be really difficult - are there some days when you effectively turn round and go back another time? I sometimes feel like that - in fact, I sometimes feel like abandoning my trolley in the middle and walking out on occasions.

Ds has been absolutely awful today. Didn't eat much breakfast. Whinge whinge whinge this morning. Just before we take the dog for a walk - 'I feel hungry' - out for a walk anyway. We got back - I gave ds a cuddle on the sofa whilst we watch some TV together and dh made some soup - went into the kitchen to eat and ds makes a face at the soup. He ended up being given an ultimatum - he could go to bed and have the soup for his supper, or he could eat it now and have more bread afterwards. He was fidgeting, faffing around, taking about 5mins for every mouthful - the whole range of behaviour that is really annoying at mealtimes. But he is asleep at th moment - which I think was the main problem. But we do wish he wouldn't mess around so much at meal times but just get stuck in and eat.... (and he needs to eat to cope with the amount of energy that he uses, and the fact that he is growing so much at the moment. Anyway, that's my rant of the day over too.

Can Mellors stand guard at the door for a bit to ensure that only customers that are prepared to abide by the rules are welcome? That whole situation on the other thread I found as it came out of the blue...

TLoveW how did the sleeping go last night?

Justa - sorry to hear you're feeling undertheweather as a family (apart from one of course) - I hope that it clears up soon.

afternoon all!
Jacksmama, I agree about that certain person, she was on another thread and was quite harsh and completely unsympathetic to another OP too.

mistle, thanks for asking - he was very restless around the 1-2am mark and wouldn't settle - he had feeds both sides and finally went down in his cot (only through bloody-mindedness on my part! Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't do it) but when he woke just before 6 I brought him in with me again.

we went baby swimming today - penultimate lesson - he was better in the pool but still wouldn't let go of me. SUch a shame - I will have to investigate our local(ish) big pool to see when is a good time to take a tiny along, because I can't afford babyswimming classes if he isn't going to participate and improve, they're too expensive.
