The One and Only TEA Room: Everyone Welcome (bring champagne and muffins please!)

Wow, we're on our third thread!!!
Previous (second) incarnation of the tea room.

A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Bocca I thought of skating, sharp edges and bits too .... it is so very wrong in so many ways, it's not the fingers I worry about!

daisy99divine · 02/02/2009 15:33

Right, kettle on

I'm just going to pop out and take 2 ponies, 2 pigeons, 1 sheep, some bees a racing pig some dogs and daisyboy for a walk in the snow and to make snowmen... anyone fancy joining me?

zazen · 02/02/2009 15:38

That's my robe BTW - just doing some esoteric tantric stuff in there where it's a bit quiet - no, not naughty things, nor anything with the birch twigs either! Honestly!

All snow has now melted here but am going to collect lá Zazennette early - the forecast is for more snow . She does love it so - it's her favourite and her best, as I've heard many, many times.......

Are we all home posters workers then? I think this calls for some Spiced Chai in recognition of our single minded discipline and, oh, this lentil soup is delish thanks

Oi vey dibbler Tries very hard not to think of nudie ice-skating accidents ... (and failing) oooooooooook, as they say!

Humm.. might pop back into the sauna to warm up a bit before venturing forth, as it's snowing again.

it is cold in the office today. My tiny radiator is failing to heat it up in here

They also used to BBQ. And trampoline...

I was rather fond of his parents actually, after I got used to them and their friends wandering round the house naked. It was good preparation for the halls of residence that I lived in later that had one bathroom for the flat of 10, with two showers which only had a thin curtain. Obv it was supposed to be a women only floor, but there were frequently blokes wandering around

thumbwitch · 02/02/2009 16:14

afternoon all!
DH took the day off today cos it was too dangerous for him to cycle to work in the snow - we have about 8" and it's still coming down. So we went for a walk in it and took lots of photos of DS (until his hands got too cold - refused to keep his mitts on, bless him!). Now hibernating!

Welcome Catita - how lovely you are joining us and please don't EVER give me tequila - even though this is a magic tearoom, tequila is a mind-blower for me and I won't go near the stuff! More for everyone else.

daisy99divine · 02/02/2009 16:30

well if Zazen took that robe, whose on earth did I put on when I came out of the sauna?

And CMot, didn't your nakkid in laws mind that you were always in rubber and leather?

pass the lentil soup - need a warm up before venturing forth to go home

yup this home worker actually had to go into the office today! what a completely rubbish idea!

daisy99divine · 02/02/2009 16:31

did they ever get a black eye on the trampoline

oh dear, the over active imaginings are getting me a bit sort of sick feeling tbh

amber32002 · 02/02/2009 16:32

Daisy, thank you very much for the drinks. Mellors and I have just finished tiling the far wall of the sauna extension leading to the plunge pool and are definitely ready for refreshment and a brisk walk with the animals.

justa, don't know where you are but apparently Surrey have decreed all schools closed tomorrow as well. I expect a lot of others will follow suit, if they were closed today, they will be closed tomorrow.

Catita · 02/02/2009 17:42

So I hear it's snowing out? that's the best excuse I've heard yet to crack open the bottle (in this case whisky I thinnk; don't worry Thumbwitch, tequila is a strictly hot weather tipple).

If there is one thing I like about this tea room is that there is no expense spared when it comes to vitally important and nutrious items...
< Profers chocolate covered hobnobs to accompany the whisky>
This'll soon have you all warmed up!

PS. The sun's shining over here...

thumbwitch · 02/02/2009 17:53

laphroaig, hey? yum - pass it over!
ta

amber32002 · 02/02/2009 18:05

Best not risk it...one shot of that and there'd be another trip hazard to watch out for on the floor. Might stretch to an early glass of something a little less potent

I've been snorting at the screen at the thought of nude trampolining and barbecueing but cannot explain to SignorBocca as BabyBocca is within earshot.

So, we already have at least two claims to have been in the sauna with Mellors. Any more?

Zazen - I'm not a homeworker. I'm a SAHM-WOHM hybrid (although much of my SAHM time is actually UWFOP (unpaid work for other people) time)! Please explain what the non-naughty tantric stuff is about.

Catita - no tequila until it's warm? Oh dear. I was hoping to relive my yoof with a tequila sunrise.

Daisy - Thanks for looking after the menagerie.

Thumbwitch - I too have had a husband loafing about the house at home today.

Justabout - You know you are always welcome (despite having such a vast and unheard-of number of children ). It's not unknown for tea room customers to pop upstairs for a long, relaxing bath, although now we have the priest hole with en suite shower room and sauna, I guess some will prefer that.

Well, the school website says they will be closed tomorrow too. Every school in Grunge has been closed today. So I'm getting ready to hibernate. This may be a predictable choice as we sup our whisky, but it's certainly appropriate.

UniS · 02/02/2009 20:21

Well I WAS at work today- at a customers so boy was at nursery so we have not yet played in teh SNOW- SNOW SNOW- we have SNOW in devon!!!! and not just on dartmoor.
Unis gets all excited and have to have a dark choc kitkat to calm down. WHOOOOP, I can;t wait for the morning.
Oh hang on, thank to teh wonders of teh tea room I don;t have to wait. See you soon.

WOW that was fun

boccadellaverita · 02/02/2009 20:25

Good to see you, Unis!

DontCallMeBaby · 02/02/2009 20:27

Oh good grief, has the guinea pig been eating the rocky road? Is that allowed? Oh ... is 'unpoisonable animals' one of the magic qualities of the tea room? Phew, if so.

We have annoying and stupid snow which has been fluttering about all day (admittedly looking quite pretty) without summoning up enough coverage for a snowman or a day off work and school. It's now freezing in a rather treacherous manner.

I have been reading on the BBC website and in the Times about how society is all based around adults' desires (erm, when was it ever NOT?) and how are children are miserable because of it. Poor DD, I thought, how she is HATING playing in the snow and singing 'The Sun Has Got His Hat On' at the top of her voice. She's clearly just over-compensating.

Blimey, loads of the schools in the sticks around here closed - and the list isn't up to date either, cos the school my mum helps at isn't on there, and it closed early today. Fortunately DD's school has a catchment area the size of a postage stamp, so there's really no reason to be closing it (well, unless the hot water pipes explode again, or there is an unfortunate sewage-related incident, again).

boccadellaverita · 02/02/2009 20:36

Mmmmm, don't bank on it, DCMB. BabyBocca's school's catchment area is so small you have to live in a tepee on the playing field, but nevertheless it closed today because the staff couldn't get there. So how far away do the teachers live?

I've been browsing rocky road recipes and may have a go at Nigella's tomorrow with BabyBocca. But I'll, ahem, forget the marshmallows. And, yes, part of the magic of the tea room is that nobody - home sapiens or other animal - is ever poisoned by what they eat here.

What would you like to drink?

UniS · 02/02/2009 20:41

Hi bocca- thanks but I'll stick with hot choc, and maybe a beer later. Not too keen on bubbles up my nose from champange and havn;t yet found a whiskey I'll drink. I like the idea of single malt, just not the taste.
Maybe I could have a little tea room glass of lagavolin (sp??) or similar just for teh look of it.

I think RP will survive a day of rocky road and flapjac , she seemed to do alright on a twiglet diet the other week.

cmotdibbler · 02/02/2009 20:43

All this talk of rocky road is making me really crave some. Alas I feel that making some would be far too much chocolate for DS.

Apparently the toddler room went out for a snowball fight - I can't imagine what that was like . He came straight through the front door looking for the half mice which were in the front room this morning when we came down (two of them, tastefully arranged at each end of the room, tail ends only), orrible child that he is

DontCallMeBaby · 02/02/2009 21:39

I think the head lives in a cupboard in his office ... not sure about anyone else. Oh well, will see in the morning, we're within skidding distance of several children from school so we'll have to hang out with someone if there's no school.

I'll go for a single malt, on the premise that in the tea room I am sophisticated and like whiskey.

UniS · 02/02/2009 21:52

don't all teachers live in a cupboard at teh back of their classrooms. They are not allowed lives you know.

Amber- I fear I may share your talent for recognising people. This being with a customer 1 day a week is playing hell with my ability to remember who is who and what their job is and if they were there last year and thus KNOW what I'm doing in the building or if I have to explain it all to them. Ho hum. I'm trying not to bore every one by going on about PAT testing in a geeky way.

DontCallMeBaby · 02/02/2009 22:38

My mum was a teacher - she had a nice Peanuts cartoon at one point with one of the kids asking where she should address her teacher's Christmas card, being told 'to her home' and responding 'teachers have homes?'
