The One and Only Tea Room: Tea, muffins and champagne served at all hours

Well folks, here we are!

We were on the brink of filling the old thread so I thought we'd better start a new one now. There was a rumour that we were going to be evicted from our old premises, but we managed right at the last minute to get an extension on the lease. So it's business as usual. We're still in our charming old tea room, overlooking our beautiful garden complete with ha-ha and duck pond. And Mellors the gardener.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink.

Invisible plasters very popular here. DS very keen on getting stickers, but always gives them away to others (bless) so invisible stickers a great idea.

I love Prague, but Brno is fab - I really liked their 'dragon' which looks suspiciously like a crocodile.

Well done MJ - 3 days in a row

teafortwo · 09/01/2009 19:18

I keep noticing the tea room being mentioned on other threads by non tea room regulars -

Racingsnake · 09/01/2009 20:55

Mmmm. Mulled wine is an excellent idea. Since it's Friday sha we have some salted peanuts; so unheathy..

Racingsnake · 09/01/2009 21:19

I thin you are right, Tea, we need some more people here. You and me and Melors and Racingpig is cosy, but the honesty box is getting rather slim. I think we need a publicity campaign.

BoccaDellaVerita · 09/01/2009 22:20

Mulled wine? Yum. And I love salted peanuts, even though they are far less healthy than my beloved twiglets.

Tea - When you hear people mentioning the tea room I certainly think you should drag entice them in. I do keep issuing invitations whenever I encounter anyone who sounds as if they may benefit from a cup of tea and a nice sit down, but wonder if this is counter-productive because I sound like a mad kidnapper too needy and friendless.

teafortwo · 09/01/2009 22:40

No, no, no, Bocca, I have seen your invites and think they are spot on - I have invited a few people in but, perhaps worried it is a cult by my over enthusiasm, they haven't actually joined us...

This milled wine is nicer than I thought it would be - here you go ladies - a top up for all!

Racingsnake · 09/01/2009 22:50

It's the peanuts! Apparently they are no longer bad for todders, either. Well, peanut butter isn't. What is the view in France about peanuts?

BoccaDellaVerita · 09/01/2009 22:54

Well, I've just invited amandathepanda, who started the thread about no longer being the newest topic in town, and all the horsewomen. I offered them each a muffin.

teafortwo · 09/01/2009 23:05

Oh no... no muffins yet... ok, ok, ok, lets not panic - I know!!!

I have some pain au raison from the late night bakery up the road - they will do until those interesting looking ones in the aga are ready!!!

door bell rings

Horse is delivered - under the name racingsnake - she is good with animals!

BoccaDellaVerita · 09/01/2009 23:11

I see that some threads on the My Little Pony are about the pastel-coloured plastic variety, so it's evidently a broad non-denominational church coalition.

I know very few genuine horsewomen and so (in the absence of any real knowledge) tend to assume that they will be broadly in favour of dogs and guinea pigs. And probably agas too.

Racingsnake · 09/01/2009 23:13

First thing tomorrow morning Mellors can check the fencing around the orchard which was recently spotted behind the tearoom (tea room?) garden. Should we build a hitching rail by the door?

teafortwo · 09/01/2009 23:41

Takes the horse out for a night ride on the beach. (This is going to look great on the film version of the tearoom!)

BoccaDellaVerita · 09/01/2009 23:54

Tada! A new bunch of muffins.

Oooh. Are we near a beach?

kickassangel · 10/01/2009 00:04

did someone say muffins? just finished dinner & could do witha little nibble of something sweet.

BoccaDellaVerita · 10/01/2009 00:09

Well, you're in the right place, kickassangel. Make yourself comfortable.

Would you like a glass of mulled wine with the muffin? Or champagne?

How has your week been?

kickassangel · 10/01/2009 00:13

champagne - i decided after having dd, that as i don't drink very often, it is best to drink something worthwhile, like champers or cocktails.

sometimes i get confused and drink champers AND coctails, or even champagne cocktails. i often reget that

well ... dd is back & school & seems much more confident after being a bit shy last term(just started innove,so scary for a 5 yo)
and i spent about 5 hrs cleaning toaday!!

i like that i have th time to finally have a neat & tidy house. i'm not so keen on it being about all that i can do. need to look into getting a work visa

BoccaDellaVerita · 10/01/2009 00:20

I would so love to have a neat and tidy house. I do sometimes look at the Fly threads and then just feel inadequate and intimidated by all that domestic efficiency. Of course, if I got out of the tea room wing chair things might be different ...

I agree completely about the drinking. I very rarely drink more than a glass of wine (except on here) so now aim for quality, if not quantity.

Great that dd is enjoying school more this term. How long have you been in the USA?

kickassangel · 10/01/2009 00:29

just over 2 months. she started school in nov, we moved into our (gorgeous) house on dec 5th, she got a bit unsettled with all the change, but i think a quiet, but good chrimbo have helped her to feel 'at home'.

i alsways longed for a tidy house, but worked ft as a teacher & managed just about tidy but could do better. now i can't work & dd is at school 4 hrs a day. i think i need to get out more, i am starting to have a cleaning routine!! actually, it's partly cos previous owners had a dog & we're all allergic, so doing lots of vacuuming & plan to hire a carpet cleaner once the snow stops & we can go out again!!

BoccaDellaVerita · 10/01/2009 00:41

How much snow have you got? We've got fog which is atmospheric but far less pretty!

kickassangel · 10/01/2009 00:42

btw - did i say before that i LOVE there's a 'one & only' topic?

with all the house moving etc, haven't been much of a reg here so missed it's beginnings, but htere have been times when i've really needed to VENT about a few thoughless comments from people, esp 'you don't know what it's like to have to look after 2/3 kids, it's easy with one'. that one really gets to me, for do many reasons.

i have offered to 'unload' the unwanted baggage, and adopt a child from people who say that, but they suddenly change their minds.
