The One and Only Tea Room: Tea, muffins and champagne served at all hours

Well folks, here we are!

We were on the brink of filling the old thread so I thought we'd better start a new one now. There was a rumour that we were going to be evicted from our old premises, but we managed right at the last minute to get an extension on the lease. So it's business as usual. We're still in our charming old tea room, overlooking our beautiful garden complete with ha-ha and duck pond. And Mellors the gardener.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink.

Hi all, sorry I have been scarcely here, my mum's here for another 2 days and I am selfishly hogging every minute with her. H ave been skimming your posts and giggling though.
But was just wondering, have we lost bbpants and cuddlyunderthemistletoe?

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 19:18

Jacksmama - Nobody is ever lost to the tea room. The secret microchip implants which we bake into the muffins we give new customers mean that we can track them at all times ....

... let's hope bbpants and cuddlyunderthemistletoe return to us soon.

Racingsnake · 05/01/2009 21:04

Tea, Racingdog is a border collie cross with Newzealand Huntaway (another sheep dog) and is border collie sized. She is grey and black mottled (for some reason this is called 'blue' in dogs). She is rather neurotic, as border collies tend to be, and she likes you too. She adores Racingpig but is a bit nervous of Mistledog and rather worried about Mellors. She drives dh mad as she always wants to be right next to you. This is why she has her head on Tea's lap.

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 21:38

Drinks, anyone?

squeaver · 05/01/2009 21:41

Here I am then..

I'll have a VERY large G&T

cmotdibbler · 05/01/2009 21:44

I'll be in Helsinki the rest of the week so just wanted to pop in for a drinky chat before hitting the frozen north. It appears to be a balmy -8 on Wednesday.

I am broody for a dog too. But we cannot have one for reasons of time and cat inhabitance. DS favours a greyhound, DH a Jack Russell, and I a Weimaraner

Racingsnake · 05/01/2009 21:52

Gin and tonic, please. And pass the twigletts, due to their positivelt healthy nature. Baked and lots of vitamin b.

I have just been on a very interesting training day on provision for gifted and talented children. Lots about making learning motivating, fun, creative and thought-provoking. Fired up with enthusiasm.

Also watching documentary on bbc 4 about Cordoba, where I have lived.

And researching interesting crops to sow in polytunnels for spring.

I feel as if the wheel of the year has started turning again.

How lovely to see JM again.

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 21:54

Ladies, I fear she will not thank me for saying this, but Squeaver is a Very Honoured Customer, as she was part of the campaign for the one child family topic and so there would be no topic and no tea room without her. She is also responsible for the status of the fascinator as unofficial uniform of the Mum of One.

So, a very large gin and tonic coming up.

Cmot - What's your poison? Champers or G&T?I fear a fascinator will be somewhat redundant in Helsinki and one of those woolly hats with earflaps will be more useful (if not quite so chic). Have you been to Helsinki before? I'd love to go but think I would wait until the temperature is above freezing. Bon voyage!

I am a bit nervous around dogs, but racingdog and mistlehound do seem very sweet and unthreatening.

kickassangel · 05/01/2009 22:04

hi, just a very quick pop in to wave & see people as bocca kindly invited me the other day, & i don't want to appear stand-offish.

mum to one here. doesn't matter why, but just saw another thread about this & realised we need to all stand shoulder to shoulder at times (if only to support those about to fall down)

can't stay for a drink, sadly. am inthe US & need to go do something about dinner. will have a real life drink later in the eve to toast us all!

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 22:05

Racingsnake - Sorry! Didn't see you come in. Here's a G&T.

And speaking of the other sort of G&T. I appreciate that this wasn't the object of the course, but did it have anything to say about how to motivate (to take an entirely random example) the C&L (clever and lazy) child who will not take seriously any piece of homework which she considers unworthy of her attention - - and so hands in a shameful piece of work?

teafortwo · 05/01/2009 22:06

Time for some music laaaaaaaydiiiieeees????

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 22:07

Kissassangel - Good to see you. I love that image of us all standing shoulder to shoulder!

kickassangel · 05/01/2009 22:11

really do need to go soon, but may i be excused from wearing a fascinator? more of a funky hat kind of gal, specially as i'm living in the frozen north due west of canada)

will pop in again sometime whe i have more time. may need a serious convo about dd, how do you help an only child when you're thousands of miles from any friends? will save that for a less alcoholic time of day!!

enjoy yourselves ladies

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 22:12

Kissassangel's post made me think of this song. I heard that Bruno from the UK version of Strictly Come Dancing isin the video, although I haven't yet identified him.

squeaver · 05/01/2009 22:16

Och you lot are lovely.

I think I might come back.

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 22:17

Looking forward to kissassangel's funky hat show ....

teafortwo · 05/01/2009 22:21

It is great to see kissassangel in the tearoom. I have bumped into her a few times on other threads and like her a lot. But - what should we call kissassangel for short??? - angel sounds too cute but kissass sounds too baaaaaaaad!!!

What about angie...

Happy travels CMOT, by the way - good luck with the weather!!!

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 22:38

Tea - you wrote kissass because I did. Several times.

I blame my new specs. Nothing to do with the champagne. Oh no. Certainly not.

Cute dog, though.

teafortwo · 05/01/2009 22:43

Oh right - It is a Boccaism - I found myself on another thread writing "Very much encouraged" and realised I don't usually say that I had "caught it" from you!!!!

Racingsnake · 05/01/2009 22:47

Bocca - I should let Babybocca fight that out with the teacher. Homework probably is too easy and not individually tailored (as indeed mine is often not ). Strangely enough C&L was not a category we discussed, although I could name several in my class. Of course, if all lessons were motivating, imaginative, creative and thought provoking ...

We don't have polytunnels as such. We have friends in the village with an organic market garden on a farm who want to work together with us to grow veg and maybe keep pigs, chickens and bees. I am wildly enthusistic; dh keeps trying to stop me.

I also love Kickass's image of us holding each other up.

mistlethrush · 05/01/2009 22:56

We went round the dogs home with a long list of requirements. In fact, although we knew we would be getting a dog in a few weeks time, we didn't intend to choose one on the day we went - just went for a look round and to take a dog for a walk. Two dogs fitted the initial criteria - we took out the first one and she chose us. When I held the lead she rubbed against dh's legs. When he held the lead she rubbed against my legs. There was none of the 'Yippee we're going on a walk I don't care who is taking me as long as we're going out for as far as possible as fast as possible' with her. She was down as needing an experienced owner - but as I had been a regular walker some time previously (pre dh) and had walked one of their 'difficult' dogs, they didn't worry about that.

So there is our 'difficult' dog, still sprawled in front of the fire, now that Bocca threw the dog treat and she caught it. She does check over the customers entering the cafe, but so far everyone is deemed acceptable. She can even put up with the dancing if everyone allows a safe distance to her tail.

I think I might go for some champagne today. All the new visitors need a toast - Hi all!!!

Dedicated to the tearoom dogs!!!!!

By the way is it - tea room or tearoom????? I am always a bit unsure which to type.

BoccaDellaVerita · 05/01/2009 23:12

Am a little perturbed to think that there could be any such thing as a Boccaism. Or that they might be contagious.

Racingsnake - I have indeed said that to BabyBocca and did once mention it to the teacher (but only after she had asked how BB was finding the homework. I try hard not to be the archetypal pushy mother of a precious first born only). But I'm normally such a compliant person that I feel I ought to be standing over her with a stick, encouraging her to do an excellent job, even if it is something she could have done a year ago.

Good night all.
