I already have a 2 year old DD and my DH have decided after we come back from our holiday in a month we’ll decide if we want another DC. We both think if we don’t do it then we won’t ever do it because the age gap will be too big, we’ll be getting older and a general if we are going to do it we might as well do it then.

I’m an only child and if DH’s siblings have children it won’t be for a while so they’ll be quite far apart age wise and probably won’t see a lot of them so no cousins.

My little one is 2.5 and I've recently started to think about baby two having thought I only wanted one. However I'm in the process of retraining in a new career and won't be finished for two years by which time I'll be 39. So for me the issue isn't the age gap my worry is I'm leaving it too late. I guess I'm leaving it to chance. There is a lot of joy in having just one and many benefits but I would like to give my child a sibling and can't seem to shake that feeling.

I should add to this that my partner is keen for a second but he works such long hours that I will be doing pretty much everything and so he is happy with what I decide.

Personally I think you should have a second child if you ‘want’ one - rather than feel you ‘should have’ one. Nothing wrong with having just one. Truth is, only children can be happy and thrive as can children in 2/3/4 + child families

I’m 34. Ive decided I want another one after our holiday. But I’ll have to wait and see what DH thinks after the trip
