beanandspud · 27/01/2013 20:33

This breathtakingly beautiful island has unspoilt powdery white sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters that wash over pristine coral reefs, and verdant green rainforest.

Scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and sailing trips are available and you can discover the island's charms on foot (with or without Mellors the guide) by mountain bike or private island buggy.

For those in need of pampering the spa offers a selection of luxurious treatments to soothe and heal both body and soul.

For dining, enjoy a freshly prepared meal at the tearoom, a picnic on the beach, or a delicious dinner in the oceanfront restaurant with its stunning sea views. There is Wine, Brew and good company, everybody is welcome.

He looks so grown up....

Jacksmania · 08/10/2013 03:04

Pic please!
(And a hug for you because it's a bit heart-wrenching when they suddenly look so grown up.)

Scout19075 · 08/10/2013 09:26

MrScout has me paranoid because he doesn't like them. I'm working on the basis of SB picked them out and because of that he's more likely to wear them. He's only asked to take them off once, soon after he got them. I reminded him why he was wearing them and he kept them on until bedtime with no complaints and no trying to take them off. He did tell me "Mommy, I can see!" There was no winking or eye rubbing when pointing to toys things on the shelves at John Lewis. And this morning he went into the bathroom and after the usual barrage of "Do you need the toilet, SB" I noticed he was looking for his glasses case and I said "Do you want your glasses?" He gave me a huge grin "Yes please!" So we went through how to put them on carefully and he's been happy ever since. I've also noticed a bit of change in his writing (when doing mazes keeping his marks between the lines whereas he could do the mazes before but struggled to keep his writing in the lines). I always figured it was because he was three and a boy but maybe it was his poor eyes.

Pictures will be up tonight, JM. I couldn't get a good picture on my phone yesterday and we got home very late and I didn't sit down until after midnight oh no, it wasn't when I went to bed, no it wasn't and didn't get a picture sorted.

SB has started to look grown up for a while. But there was a look he gave me this little smirky smile look that made me think "You're a boy, not a toddler." I've thought it for a while but it really hit me yesterday. He turns four in less than three weeks and for some reason I'm struggling with the thought a bit.

mistlethrush · 08/10/2013 09:45

Scout - what does MrScout know about toddler glasses style... If they're OK and Scout chose them, their fine - as you say, he's more likely to wear them that way (DS would go for green if he had the opportunity).

Mine's 8.5 and wearing a gumshield for rugby (Waaah!) (And happily throwing himself on the feet of some very large opposition too) (at least its heavily umpired, with a coach on-pitch for both sides too at the moment).

Scout19075 · 08/10/2013 10:05

They're blue wire-rimmed and round (not complete circles but round). I said at least he didn't go for the plastic thick-rimmed bright colored or multi-colored ones that seem all the rage at the minute (the thick-rimmed things, not necessarily colored unless you're a kid). I also said be glad he didn't go for bright red ones. I suspect he'll end up out-growing them soonish or needing a different prescription for his not short-sighted eye (one eye can't see far away, the other has different issues) when we go back in December.

Rugby? When SB was smaller I got lots of comments about him being built like a rugby player. I know it's more "gentlemanly" than American football but I can't get the image of American football players and accompanying attitudes out of my head when I think of SB and sports. I can't believe they're allowing tackling so young.... (though perhaps 8.5 isn't so young for rugby, what do I know?)

Swimming day today. We're taking advantage of the not-wet day and meeting with our friends for a picnic and playground run before class. We've done it every week before swimming this term. My friend and I know we're on borrowed time so every Monday one of us is checking the weather and texting/messaging the other with "...it still looks good, same time, same place tomorrow?"

mistlethrush · 08/10/2013 10:09

They sound cool Scout! What on earth did MrScout expect you to come away with? Frankly, anything that encourages them to wear them is good.

We saw an under 11 game underway when our U9s were warming up - that's much more 'real' with kicking goals etc - U9s just do tries at the moment. MC is not very fast - but he's got the bulk to push people out of the line which some of his faster colleagues can't do... so its swings and roundabouts.

Jacksmania · 08/10/2013 18:17

I've learned that JB is much more likely to wear things he has picked out himself. So MrScout can just go fish.
:)

Scout19075 · 08/10/2013 21:09

JM, pictures are up over in the other place.

Scout19075 · 09/10/2013 12:51

So confused. Had two hospital notes through today -- one addressed directly to SB and one "to the parents of SB." The letter directly to SB was confirming his December appointment in the eye clinic. The one to the parents of SB was to tell SB (as the letter inside starts "Dear SB") he missed his eye clinic appointment last week and to call the GP if we still need it. I believe this was the same eye clinic appointment we attended, spending many hours in the clinic, speaking to two different receptionists and two different doctors and the glasses man.

MrScout is currently unavailable (driving to meetings and then in meetings all afternoon) so asking here -- assuming it's safe to ignore the missed appointment letter? Or do I call them and tell them they have the wrong boy in case someone really did miss their appointment and need it?

I know a lot of these notes are automatically generated but someone told the computer to print & send using codes and they got it wrong....

mistlethrush · 09/10/2013 13:00

I would ring and say 'there appears to have been a mix up as we attended and got glasses for SB - please can you ensure that your computer system is amended so that our December appointment is not cancelled or something to that effect. I would also be writing to your Dr (email?) to say you've had this incorrect information back and that you did attend etc...

Scout19075 · 09/10/2013 13:24

Ooohh, good point about the GP. They have email so I'll send them a note tonight.

We have never missed a clinic appointment, ever, and I'm at the hospital a lot. If the days/times they give me aren't good I reschedule. Always. Attending appointments and keeping up on health things was drilled into me from a young age.

Scout19075 · 10/10/2013 09:28

Called the hospital this morning. Sounds like one of the two people he saw didn't code properly (or at all) so it got flagged and a letter sent. Receptionist fixed it and no problem with December appointment. Need to email GP in case.

mistlethrush · 10/10/2013 09:29

Good to hear. I bet they'll be thankful that you did ring to confirm too...

Has MrScout realised his views on the glasses were wrong yet? And how is SB getting on with them?

Scout19075 · 10/10/2013 11:28

MrScout hasn't mentioned the glasses. I am singing their praises to him as I've seen a change in SB since Monday. SB likes them because he can see. He closed his eye out of habit yesterday. I asked him about it so he closed the "good" and said "I can still see!"

Scout19075 · 11/10/2013 17:14

I need a wall to bang my head on. Or maybe just some Wine and Cake.

mistlethrush · 11/10/2013 20:59

What's up?

Scout19075 · 13/10/2013 20:56

I was frustrated on Friday evening. Today (all day) I'm just p!$$ed off. I need an attitude adjustment or lots of wine and a good night's sleep.

beanandspud · 13/10/2013 20:58

Sending you Wine, Cake and sleeping dust Scout.

UniS · 14/10/2013 21:08

hello all.

sorry I seem to have got a little lost and missed teh tea room door over teh last week or two. However mellors spotted me and dragged me in off the street at last, the NMBs are hanging my coat up for me , so I may be here some time.

I'm really glad Sboy likes his glasses scout.
Mistlechick playing rugby -eeekkkk. tho I guess DS will be there next year, its year 4 in his school that start with tag rugby.

Halloween- boy is a bit guntled that we will be with granny that evening and granny doesn't "do" halloween. He does get to do a fancy dress thing each weekend for the next 4 weeks ( carnival season) but I think he want the sweets.... I've assured him that Daddy will have sweets at home or any TorTers that call and that boy can have what ever are left. He knows that this will be most of them as we don't get TorTers normally unless they walk up the lane with us on our way home. We are just that little bit out of the village.

Love the idea of the root beer scout- well not the root beer its self, but the thought behind it is very sweet.

Unis passes round a slab of toffee apple cake, do tuck in.

mistlethrush · 14/10/2013 23:10

Based on the last couple of times that MC has had less than normal healthy food - together with some sweets (which rapidly reappeared at bedtime) I'm not sure trick or treating would be a good idea. Perhaps we shall just have to go around the nearby roads with our hound of the baskerville.

Scout19075 · 17/10/2013 17:24

One month today until the Scout Troop goes to Scout Camp in the States. And I found USD 51 and change today.

Wahoo!!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2013 19:27

::waves to everyone:

Wahoo indeed, Scout!

mistlethrush · 17/10/2013 20:32

Maud! Wine ? Or perhaps cocktails?

Scout19075 · 18/10/2013 19:11

I am glad to see the back of this week so who would like to join me in a Friday night Wine?
