Episode 33 - The Orangery - Tea anyone?

mistlethrush · 08/05/2012 08:58

The tearoom has traveled back to the Orangery for another visit. There are bluebells in the nearby woods, and Mellors has Earl Grey and Lady Grey ready for some excursions. Mellors has, indeed, been overwintering away from Canada for some reason - I think he's been helping Maud out in the garden. There are tulips out in urns outside, and there are a few tables out in the sunny courtyard for use between showers.

Whether you have one child or several, pull up a chair and share a Brew or a Wine. The only rules remains no fisticuffs.

I am a Dreadful Mother because I have no recollection of when The Girl became a free reader. Must have been when she was reading Proust at the age of 6.

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:03

Toddler's a free reader he looks at the pictures and tells me the story. Grin And if it's a favorite book he can tell me the right words on the right pages but I have do not believe he can read but has a good start on pre-reading skills--. I do, however, wonder if he can sight-read please, thank you, Daddy and Daddy's name/email address. When I was in A&E the other weekend Toddler read a sign as "Please chatter-chatter-chatter Thank You" and the sign said "Please wait behind this sign. Thank you." We didn't tell him what the sign said. He will also tell me if there's an unread email from MrScout in my inbox. Hmm

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2012 23:09

He may well be recognising certain familiar words, Scout. When The Girl was that age, she always knew which supermarket we were going to because she could (literally) recognise the signs!

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:17

Oh yes, Toddler knows the two supermarkets we most frequent (even ones that aren't our usual ones) and he knows a certain coffee chain. Blush

oxeye · 25/06/2012 23:18

Oxboy still does the recognition thing - he pointed out an "olympic car" this morning - turns out it was an Audi - he mistook the rings for the olympic sign Grin

Thumb you see while I am totally sympathetic to you re the car I can't help thinking teh car is only a thing, and annoying and horrid as it is, the chaps in the car are someone's son and were once gazed at as tiny babies full of hope and chance - I'm such a sook these days....

and I was worrying about your Pinata Phobia - we're having one where you pull strings, and its a disney shape so no whacking the donkey which I agree is a bit brutal and against all the "we don't hit we love" mantras I trot out in my hippy way (see above)

the only pinata whacking I like is the scene in Parenthood where Steve Martin is still taking an axe to it long after the kiddies have left and gone home Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2012 23:22

Oxeye!

::bosom .... clasping .... you get the picture::

I'm not sure what a sook is, but I agree with you about the car and the miscreants driving it. Even the lifers who have just been on the telly (did you watch that?) were somebody's baby once.

I shall look for that bit of Parenthood on Youtube.

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:23

Can I join in the clasping?

Thumbwitch · 25/06/2012 23:24

I have no real issue with non-animal shaped pinatas with strings Oxeye! It is just the brutal aspects I can't be doing with.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2012 23:24
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2012 23:26

Oh yes, Scout. I can't quite remember how Oxeye and I got into the habit of bosom clasping, but it's a good habit to share.

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:29

I have no bosom so didn't know if I was excluded.

Every night before bed Toddler asks "Kiss? Hug? Poem?" He also hugs me/burrows into me and saws "Aaawwwww, Mommy love." [heart]

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2012 23:30

Nah, it's like a group hug. Anyone is welcome to join in. And bless Toddler.

UniS · 25/06/2012 23:32

hug

night night
sleep tight
what will you dream of tonight?

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:33

If Toddler was awake he'd join in -- he likes group hugs.

Scout19075 · 25/06/2012 23:34

He saw one of his big friends (an 8 yr old big friend) at Tesco today and gave her a big hug. She loves him and hugs him hello/goodbye, too.

oxeye · 26/06/2012 00:02

I'm a hugger with no bosom to speak of

::clasps all to her ample hugging space::

well found Maud of the Tube Grin

exactly Thumb, that's why I thought you'd like pinatas with string!

Donki · 26/06/2012 20:15

Maud!
That poor donkey!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/06/2012 21:04

::reassures Donki that the pinata is made of paper and, besides, movies are make-believe and no donkeys real or pretend were harmed in the making of that motion picture::

Donki · 26/06/2012 22:04

I'm not taking any risks!...

Scout19075 · 26/06/2012 22:22

Warning: I'm too lazy to look it up and MrScout is of no use.

Does anyone know how many books there are in Enid Blyton's The Secret Seven series?

Scout19075 · 26/06/2012 22:24

Only one more Seniors meeting left before I have at least a year off.

mistlethrush · 26/06/2012 22:28

15 apparently scout.

Thanks, MT. Are they like The Famous Five?

teafortwo · 26/06/2012 22:36

Bof - I am fed up with Paris in summer... Specifically the metro in summer - huff huff huff... 1) snogging on the metro 2) tourists trying to pass through the metro using used tickets and then when, because they can't get through they are causing a pile up, I tell them to pass through with me and then they drop the door on me so I am stuck between the door and the turnstile but they have got through on my ticket and 3) the cute busker who sings "...I want you to nowwwtice when I'm not around..." - don't worry... Us girls notice - now sing a jollier song, dear...

mistlethrush · 26/06/2012 22:40

Scout - I believe so. Mc is on Famous 5 at the mo....

Tea - I can completely understand - when I go to London in the summer I really can't understand how people can do that day in day out - all the people, the congestion, the fumes, the crush on the tube.... (and of course this summer its going to be doubly worse).
