The moving castle tea room touches down for the 29th time

Welcome to the tea room. Open to those with one child and those with more and maybe some with none ( hi dave the trucker).

This time we are heading to the mists and mellow fruitfulness of Autumn in a moving castle with a mind of its own. The roaring fire is maintained by magic and Mellors the gardener handles wine and spirits along with massage duties.

The first rule of the tea room is this
No fisticuffs.
The second is this
Put the kettle on for Brew and help yourself to a Biscuit

I think (from experience) LittleDeer will be fine - mc easily adapted to life with DH working away all week. In fact, its been more disruptive this time when he's just spent two days down in the office after working at home for 2 months - cue wailing on the phone. At least it proves that mc does actually love his dad too! Grin

Unserp - private. Most of the afterschool clubs are external (tennis x2, karate, football (two depending on year), ballet x2, flex dance, yogabugs x2, street dance, as are French and Spanish (lunchtimes). After school the drama club is run by teachers as is the cookery. During lunch, the school run ones are recorder, science, ict, choir, and ocarinas (for yr1).

The one that always has me Shock is karate - as they have the hall full of Yr1 and Yr2s - at least 40 of them I would estimate, with two instructors, and they're all behaving impecably (whereas tennis with only 16 has descended into such bedlam that the headmistress has had to go in). If there's any sillyness the perpertrator is made to do push ups or star jumps at the side of the room! MC understands these boundaries very well - and is perfectly happy working within them!

Does anyone know what affects the shape of a rainbow - saw one last night that was unusually flat - didn't bow up into the sky like they normally do.... Fantastic rainbow weather though - I think I've seen them three days on the trot now.

MT - angle of dangle or somesuch - depends on the height of the sun and the angle of the rays. Rainbows fascinate me - when there's a really good one, you can usually see another one above it, fainter, and with the colours in reverse order. For years I asked people, Oxbridge physics grads working on things like plasma production in JET, why this happened - and no one could answer. Then one night I was at my sister's around midnight and she had Sky tv - and there was a programme all about it! And I learnt that it's the angle of the refraction - one bounces at 42 and the other at 57 degrees or something like that. And that the bit between the two rainbows is often slightly darker than the bit below the main rainbow and it's called Alexander's band.

Anyway - that probably hasn't answered your question in the slightest but I hope it was interesting!

Amber - have a read of this instead - might be interesting to you :)

Hope you still have some blood left?

amberlight · 14/09/2011 16:36

TW, nifty article! Yup, correlates with the thinking of Prof SBC on the subject.
Thank you for the Biscuit Biscuit Just the thing before tomorrow Grin

Yes, they've left a teaspoon of blood in me somewhere in case the surgeon needs it to do something.

Thumbwitch · 14/09/2011 16:43

Have you made sure you've marked the correct Biscuit so he knows what he's doing? Wink

amberlight · 14/09/2011 17:15

I will have done by tomorrow. Taking in a marker, just in case Grin

mistlethrush · 14/09/2011 17:21

I think that you need a macaroon Biscuit or two Amber... with the cherry in the middle - will bake a batch for your recovery.

TW - yes, there were several doubles around over the last three days with the darker sky in the middle. My mother did an OU maths course that did all about the maths of that sort of thing - and I think that you can get more than two in exceptional circumstances. Perhaps it was a late in the day rainbow which was why it was lower to the horizon than 'normal' (based on what you said).

Scout19075 · 14/09/2011 19:21

Good luck for tomorrow, amber.

I am stupidly excited for tomorrow -- Toddler's having his first real playdate. We're meeting his swimming friend and her baby brother (and of course her mum! Grin) for an afternoon in the park and to feed the ducks. [sad soul for being stupidly excited emoticon]

mistlethrush · 14/09/2011 19:26

I'm watching 'outnumbered' and it sounds remarkably familiar Blush

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 14/09/2011 20:27

Wherev do you see Outnumbered~?????????????

Scout19075 · 14/09/2011 21:11

I'm a bit bored.

CMOTdibbler · 14/09/2011 21:25

Will be thinking of you tomorrow Amber.

Why not have a deep, hot and smelly bath Scout ?

In the latest of the CMOT households adventures in surgery, DH is going to have his trigger finger sorted out next week. We now have his n' hers hand surgeons Hmm

UniS · 14/09/2011 21:58

His n hers hand surgeons- How frightfully Posh you sound :-)

Ladies- I need help- Holiday decisions for next year....
DO we

a- go to and take park in big sports event in Italian Alps last July. missing the Olympic cycling road race.
or
b- go skiing in spring, and then stay near London and watch the Olympic cycling in Surrey.

DH wants to watch the cycling boy wants to go skiing, I want to do all three but we can't afford to and the dates clash.

IFAIK my parents want to to do a.

OP posts:
UnSerpentQuiCourt · 14/09/2011 22:03

Italy, definitely!!!!!!! But then, I am not really into sports.

CMOT Grin at his'n'hers hand surgeons. Although possibly less anusing if it is your hands.

CMOTdibbler · 14/09/2011 22:07

Italy, then watch the Paralympics cycling

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/09/2011 22:31

Italy, always. (See earlier contributions ad nauseam).

mistlethrush · 14/09/2011 23:38

Oooh Italian alps! And yes, paralympic cycling....

Forgot I was meant to be playing quartets tonight! Blush

Bit achey

Outnumbered - have the series. Watched the first one - it was the 'put your bottom in your seat' that made me realise that I was actually watching something that was SO TRUE in places!!! ConfusedGrin

beanandspud · 15/09/2011 07:55

Good luck for later Amber. Thinking of you.

Unis - my vote is for Italian Alps too - if only because when we have just been skiing it seems such a long stretch from a holiday in Spring to the end of the year.

Scout - enjoy your playdate!

LittleDeerandMe · 15/09/2011 08:57

Aargh!! LittleDeer is refusing to go to school!!!! What do I do?!! I can't physically force him since he can wriggle out of his car seat himself and tends to do that when he doesn't want to go somewhere and no matter what I would not risk driving without a seatbelt, plus if he gets it into his head that I will drive without a seatbelt he'll never let me put it on him again! School starts in 3 mins!!!!

LittleDeerandMe · 15/09/2011 09:29

Well, it's too late now, of course the second I took off his waterproofs and said school has already started he wanted to go. He is now hysterical, crying and saying he wants to go to school. I have told him that I will be doing my jobs at home so won't be able to play with him. If I took him now he'd think he could mess around like this every morning and could make every morning a nightmare, if I keep him home today but make it very boring perhaps he'll decide school is better than staying home. That's my hope anyway. Afterall he does love school normally, and legally he can't just decide to stay home whenever he wants. Anyway, even if I took him now his class are off walking in the woods, and we wouldn't find them. Blearg.

mistlethrush · 15/09/2011 10:21

"LittleDeer, its SUCH a pity that you're home with me today doing really boring things - I've not even got anything nice for lunch - and your class is all out enjoying themselves in the wood. I wonder what they'll be doing - do you think enough leaves might have fallen off to collect and make a picture with? Its such a pity you're missing out on all the fun.... " Wink

Amber, thinking of you today - there'll be a Brew available when you're back because I shouldn't think you'll feel like a Wine at that point...

Same girl in the class is again getting mc to do things that result in him losing golden time Sad However, he lost most of it when he was talking - which is fair enough. Grin

Scout19075 · 15/09/2011 11:44

Amber, did you use the marker? Wink

Oh dear, LittleDeer. Sad

I am sooooo bloomin' excited! Suddenly realized that my wedding anniversary is in two weeks, then MrScout's birthday over Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Was starting to panic about MrScout's presents. I've been very uninspired for gifts for him (he's difficult to shop for anyway since what he wants is soooo techy). He mentioned several months ago that a tv show is FINALLY on DVD as a complete set. I thought "ahh, Scout, get him that!" I thought it was going to be shedloads of money. I can get it for £6 (plus shipping). WAHOO! Now just need to figure out when to give it to him. Wink

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/09/2011 12:46

Eek. I would have bundled LittleDeer into the car. I am Tyrannical Mummy.

Mistle - I feel your frustration. Have you been coaching MistleChick in how to Just Say No to this wayward girl? From the teacher's PoV, I doubt that she cares much who 'made' him do it - the fact remains that he did it.

Yay, Scout! Sounds like the perfect gift.

Scout19075 · 15/09/2011 12:52

Maud, I managed to find the DVD for £5.49 with free shipping. RESULT!

Also sorted out our anniversary gift -- Season 9 of Spooks. Something we'll both enjoy.
