Picture the scene...

From the edge of every terrace and every step hang brilliantly white stalactites, and you can hear the joyful splashing of the waters of the hot springs as they cascade down over slopes where their flow is impeded only by clumps of oleanders.

Nearby is an oasis of refreshments, in our Pamukkale residence, air conditioned and with white washed generously proportioned rooms, with Mellors at the ready, to offer Turkish Massage to anyone who wishes.

The NMBs are in their element, whereas the bishops seem to have found their speedoes again.

Priest's hole is at the back, in a quiet shaded area, stocked with What Car magazines, Turkish rugs and Turkish delight

Morning all.

Not exactly sure where I've been....

CMOT I hope you can get some answers and some more help.

Amber...a bouncer at a poetry reading...in case of mauradering prose? Grin

LCT off to daycare today. I may head back to bed...

CMOTdibbler · 08/08/2011 08:14

Amber, people who have been there (and of course, alas I get to meet a lot) tell me that the end of each treatment brings a whole range of feelings. partly because you just sort of get the hang of it, and its over and something new and unknown looms. The end of treatment (esp the intense bit) can bring odd feelings too - you think you should be happy, but people can feel scared that now they don't get the intensive support and have to wait for the followup.
You are surrounded by an awful lot of love and prayer, and I think of you and your journey a lot

MaryBS · 08/08/2011 08:30

Beautifully said CMOT.

morning all. UniS cadges a fry up from a passing breakfast wallah.

I feel much better than I should after 5 hours sleep.
Boy s still in bed, presumed asleep., I am still in PJs.

yawns to all, cups of tea handed round. Hurrah for brave toddler scout and his play ground exploration.

All the best Amber, on to the next stage of the adventure soon.

Amber - hoping it all goes as well as possible today. My last chemo was also on my EDD which was a painful shock when I found out - but sort of drew a proper line under the whole thing which was, I suppose, good. Then two years later I was busy hoping MC wouldn't come too much too early and hit that date also.

We have had a remarkably positive weekend with MC. Did gardening with MiL on Sat am, then took dog out sat afternoon and did this and that... then took the dog out on Sun am (and had coffee at the cafe - MC likes that!) after which DH got rather busy with being on-call so MC and I had to creap around doing other stuff - we looked at his violin music for next week (too many things to think about), had our lunch and then did lots of gardening - chopping sticks into brown bin (MC in bin to push down!), then went to garden centre to see if we could get any autumn veg plants, came back and planted most of them, with MC doing a fairly good job of watering - apart from watching where his feet went.

Seriously wondering whether we need some help - with him saying what he did - but also because he keeps on saying that he was bored at school, which I can well believe. Just wondering if getting his IQ done to see what it is and whether its worth showing to school to actually get them to acknowledge that he is bright enough to be doing better than they're managing him to do and that they really want him to continue with them in terms of their stats. Any comments gratefully received.

If anyone wants me, I'm in the Priest Hole with three Bishops, a bottle of wine and a copy of What Sodding Thing Will Happen Next. Apparently the answer to that question is that dh will have two eye operations for cataracts which we've got to fit round my surgery as well. Gee whizz.
But chemo went fine, which is good.

UniS · 08/08/2011 17:33

DH saw consultant about his knee today - it has hurt for 20 years, he's had 3 surgeries, but only goes back when its unbearable. Basically, his only option is a knee replacement, but this might well result in him losing that leg above the knee by 50 as the bone is all shot. We knew it was pretty bad, but the extent of the damage to surrounding stuff was a shock

purpleknittingmum · 08/08/2011 18:29

Evening all!

Hope all went well Amber. CMOT - that is a bit scary! Hope he doesn't lose the leg

We had an eventful Sunday morning. About 10 days ago, FIL fell in the shower and did damage to his ribs, been in a lot of pain, and then at the end of last week finally got some pain killers that worked. Sunday morning, MIL phoned my OH to say he had bought up a load of blood and was unconscious. At this point she hadn't called an ambulance!

So he was rushed in and it turns out he had a huge ulcer (no previous symptoms) that had burst and will be in until at least Thursday.

Scout19075 · 08/08/2011 19:14

Everyone's having a rotten day. Sad Makes me feel guilty for having an "ehhh" sort of day and feeling sad for no real reason.

purpleknittingmum · 08/08/2011 19:26

I am feeling so tired today! I had a kip this afternoon, don't often do that, but still feel not right

mistlethrush · 08/08/2011 20:24

[adds an extension to the priest hole and holes up for the evening too - bringing more supplies on the way]

CMot - sorry to hear that Sad

Amber - it will be OK - hope the arrangements re surgeries go OK.

Tee2072 · 08/08/2011 20:39

Been sick all day myself and still don't feel well. ::snuggles down next to Amber::

CMOTdibbler · 08/08/2011 20:40

What brings you to the priest hole Mistle ?

How is FIL now PKM ? Hope the tiredness doesn't turn into a lurgy

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 08/08/2011 20:44

Mistle, as a teacher, I would be very wary of trying to 'get them to acknowledge that he is bright enough to be doing better than they're managing him to do' because it would make me pretty irritated since I promise I would be doing my best anyway.

I know that it is wrong Blush, but it would not endear your child to me. (I am saying this, I hope, as a friend.)

What would shock me and focus me completely on trying to help would be the scary 'I want to be dead' comments. Now I have outed myself as a Bad Teacher.

Have had such an awful day that I had better not describe it on an open forum - can only get better. Grin

purpleknittingmum · 08/08/2011 20:47

FIL is not too bad now, he fell out of bed earlier trying to get in to his chair himself instead of asking for a nurse to help, he is attached to tubes etc

Think he realises now how bad he was, he wanted to go home yesterday until the doctor told him if it bleeds again he might not get to hospital in time

Yes, hopefully no lurgy!

amberlight · 08/08/2011 21:15

Right then, it's Wine all round. We all need a refund on today. Where do we apply?

beanandspud · 08/08/2011 21:21

Sorry that so many are having a rotten day. Sending un-mumsnetty hugs to all.

CMOTdibbler · 08/08/2011 21:24

On the upside, my garden may look like a bombsite, but it is now a bombsite which is running at the levels we wanted. And, it is our wedding anniversary tomorrow (14 years) and dh has bought me a Kenwood Chef - which I have coveted for some years, so instead of just having a stick blender I have a full fledged mega mixer

Hugs to all having a bad day

Thumbwitch · 09/08/2011 05:31

Lordy, disaster looms all around!

CMOTD - I really hope they can do something for your DH that doesn't involve lopping his leg off Shock - any chance of bone grafting with donated bone? Or not?

Amber - it will get better, promise. And once your DH's eyes are done, he will be able to see so much better it will be worth it - just got the irritation of him not being able to drive for that little while.

PKM - eeek! to burst ulcer - your FIL is lucky. I take it his painkillers have been revised to acknowledge his ulcer now as well? Hope he gets better soon.

Serpent - boo to horrible days - hope tomorrow is better for you.

Mistle - it might be an idea to get MC's IQ tested but only for your own knowledge and information at this stage. There are some decent child counsellors out there as well who might be able to tease out where his death thoughts are coming from - I know a very good one from where I used to live but since that is M25 end of Surrey, it's not going to be much use to you!

Maybe it's the fall out from the 7th supposedly being the happiest time of the year at 7pm (it was the 7th, wasn't it?) - every up has its down.

Get well all sick people, and I hope that some better days bless us all in the very near future.

amberlight · 09/08/2011 08:28

TW, it'd better. This is two very hard years one after the other and thank goodness I have friends and family who are there for us otherwise I would have sunk under it by now.

Brew and a fine Turkish breakfast await. I see the Bishops have taken the liberty of helping themselves already for our convenience...

How is everyone this morning? Blimey re these riots,...but I can see how it's possible to create a mob so fast these days and how many youths have nothing at all to do and nothing to look forward to other than debts and no housing and no jobs. Awful.

Tee2072 · 09/08/2011 08:45

Moaning.

Migraine hangover + 2 year old + husband working across the country (granted, small country, but still!) = 1 tired Mummy. ::heads back to Priest Hole::

I hope everyone else is doing better today.

The riots don't surprise me at all. It's what happens when the rich vote bread and circuses for themselves and nothing for the rest of the country. Anyone hear 'Let them eat cake' yet?
