To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

Lordy that was long. I've been missing the chat

oxeye · 09/07/2011 01:25

And I've forgotten how to do emoticons

oxeye · 09/07/2011 01:25

Scout, Brew in honour of our SiL. hurrah re weight, too!

Tee, like the new name Grin

I found distracting FineLad with fave toy during tricky nappy changes worked fairly well for him, but may be a useless tip for others.

After a long, exhausting but very enjoyable day at Hampton Court Flower Show yesterday, a quieter day today I think. FineLad seems to be heading for Berlin with some of his entourage. Hope they're ready for the invasion..!

oxeye · 09/07/2011 10:12

Oh Hampton Court Flower Show. Ace. Oxboy and I watched on tv last night. Henley and Hampton Court, you are doing the season daaarhling!!!

amberlight · 09/07/2011 10:28

I am indeed! Cowes and Goodwood await!! Grin

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 09/07/2011 11:39

oh amber, what fun!

Scout - raising a glass of Wine in honour of your SIL, may she rest in peace. So :(, so young - your poor brother.
Good news about your weight - hope your bloods all come back clear and proper as well :)

miniThumb is ill. I am very sad. not only because he is suffering but also because I now have to miss the Sydney meet up lunch that was scheduled for tomorrow - even though I am currently ok, miniT is displaying more-than-cold symptoms (temperature while shivering, really chesty, phlegmy cough) and a couple of the ladies coming have brand spanky new babies, so I would hate to pass on any germs. :(

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/07/2011 11:48

::Whispers::

Do you think that it's a possibility that it's not Oxeye who's HM The Queen but, actually, Amber?

::curtseys, just in case::

Breakfast buffet now awaits you on the sideboard. As does Mellors.

amberlight · 09/07/2011 11:52

Mellors! I've warned you beforehand about standing on that sideboard in the altogether! Shock

Me? Queen? Heaven forefend! ::adjusts her cleaner's headscarf and curlers and continues to push the broom round the Palace floor whilst muttering about lumbago::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/07/2011 12:07

::Stands, transfixed by the view of Amber dusting the distressed chintz sofa, the sideboard ... and Mellors::

::Had never appreciated quite how tickly a feather duster can be::

amberlight · 09/07/2011 13:15

Well if he will just stand there... Hmm Pass me the polish, will you?

naw- ambers not teh queen. she's a lady who launches. generally feet first into things. or should that be a lady who lunches... or maybe a lady who lurches... dunnno, never ask a dyslexic these things.

Hi all.
twiglet suprise!!! what a suprise. thank you.

Bike fancy dress is made of cardboard ( had a big box a birthday pressie came in) , gaffa tape ( I always have gaffa tape in the house) , bits of wood, a few bolts ( all kicking about in teh garage/workshop) and some paper plates and clotted cream pots. Bit of white emulsion paint to make it look all same colour and boy can felt tip pen over that to his hearts content. So far, his plates of food ( stuck to the wings OBVIOUSLY) are surprisingly purple and black. Pics will follow after tomorrow, it not all been bolted onto bike yet.

Catitainahatita · 09/07/2011 22:08

*them, obviously. Sorry.

DontCallMeBaby · 10/07/2011 09:38

Morning all!

I went to a meetup last night. I met people from MN! They were real! Eyes, noses, limbs, the whole lot. :o

Blimey - two fighter jets have just flown over my house. Don't think know people are having hangovers down here?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/07/2011 10:27

Wow, DCMB! Tell us more.

CMOTdibbler · 10/07/2011 10:44

We seem to have had a lot of fighters over at weird times lately too DCMB - apart from one memorable day when they went directly over my head, upside down, close enough to see the pilot, you only hear them as they are moving so fast.
Was the meetup good ? Our local one is a great laugh

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 10/07/2011 18:25

Has anyone any idea for really easy, healthy but not boring, food/snacks for a birthday party with more adults than children? One child being vegetarian? Am struggling for ideas, but that is probably due to over-load from other sources, although inate lack of creativity might be involved.

Did I say that AP has had her first visit from a counseller from the psychology services? But she does need me there - I heard her meekly agreeing to a knitting circle .... she can't knit because her hands don't work and she hates meeting strangers .... It's a fine line bet

CMOTdibbler · 10/07/2011 18:50

Mini quiches ? I make them in bun tins - you can use prerolled pastry for total ease, then bung in diff fillings - cheese, blue cheese and bacon bits, tuna and sweetcorn, tomato and spring onion etc - take no time and look well posh.
Depending on audience, I find making maki rolls easy in bulk, and you can put cucumber/carrot/avocado/chicken in the middle. DS loves them
Hummus and stuff to dip in - pitta strips, breadsticks, crudities

I can see a knitting circle wouldn't be the best option Hmm A bit like suggesting bridge club to my mum

UniS · 10/07/2011 19:19

CMOT- when is tiddler and dPonys fancy dress parade?? Boy got on very well at his bike fancy dress today - the flying chef won a large cup! which we now have to get engraved. I forgot to take any pictures.. sorry. will see what can be done after we collect bike from friend tomorrow night. Had to leave it at friends house as it was too far for boy to ride home on a solo so I took the tandem for transport.
