To pinch an intro from the very first one and only tea room thread. in 2009.

The tea room is now officially open, serving hot chocolate, tea, freshly-squeezed orange juice and a range of home-baked muffins. Tablecloths and crockery are charmingly mismatched antiques (no Cath Kidston here). We overlook an attractive although somewhat overgrown garden, with a distant view of rolling countryside.

Everyone is welcome but house rules dictate that anyone indulging in fisticuffs will be ejected.

Please come in.

We seem to have fetched up in Ireland, this place looks remarkably like a pub,There is even a guiness barrel over there. The NMBs are all sporting shamrocks. The mirror ball is here, but I leave teh rest of the unpacking to someone else.

::passes over a naked shortbread farmer::

If it's a fortnight for results, I'd say they're unbothered. I had mine on the spot. OK, they weren't the ones I was hoping for, but if there's something of note they tend to crack on with results instantly. Google is absolute rubbish unless you are of scientific mindset and can pick out good from rhubarb.

::helps with the rocket building::

Tee2072 · 21/06/2011 15:10

Good afternoon Fair Tear Room Ladies.

I thought shortbread grew on trees? Grin

Bean, glad you're feeling some better. My experience with biopsies is the same as Ambers. If they are worried you'll hear in days, if not hours.

From the 'typical of my life' file I took LCT's nap time to ring the Tax Credit people only to find I had pulled the wrong P45 from my files. I go to look for the right one and...it's not there...I have a P60 but no P45. I am 99.9% sure I never got one. I have contacted said company and they are checking for me.

If they claim I did get sent one and I can't find it...what do I do?! Anyone know?

MaryBS · 21/06/2011 15:21

Tee, you can ask for a statement of earnings. This will contain all the info on your P45 and the tax credit people can use that.

Can you get wheat free shortbread seeds? Am currently going wheat free, can't remember if I said...

mistlethrush · 21/06/2011 15:27

Tee - I'm hopeless on that sort of stuff, sorry.

Spud - glad it wasn't too bad - I had significant 'ouch' when I had a biopsy done, so I hope it wasn't like that!

You need to find a local Yogabugs group though - they do trips to the moon, and the bottom of the sea, and pirate adventures etc - in 40mins. Complete with yoga moves (done quite quickly!)(bit like Waybaloo but with a story - and no imaginary completely out of scale figures sort of doing it, so much better in my opinion Blush)

Will have an interesting Friday - going to play in a concert without playing in any of the rehearsals as they're desperately short of strings! Grin Will be 'interesting' and I hope I don't add too many dominos.

MaryBS · 21/06/2011 16:15

If they're short of strings, won't it be quite quiet? Wink

amberlight · 21/06/2011 16:25

I have some string! With a knot in the middle, various lengths...can supply.
No dominos but have a few chess pieces if that helps?

::wonders if she needs to read up more on musical instruments:: Biscuit

oxeye · 21/06/2011 18:50

Bean hope all well. I think a two week wait is positive. Although, on another note, instant results aren't always bad. I had instant results after a lung X-ray, was convinced it was curtains and wept as I entered the GPs office (real tough cookie me!) Grin actually it was only an infection and they wanted to get me started on ABs quickly! I felt foolish though they were very nice!

oxeye · 21/06/2011 18:53

::flicks narked shortbread farmers off her::
what has been going on in my absence Hmm

oh yes, LIE DOWN Amber and watch the tennis! Grin

I think that covers the news....

UniS · 21/06/2011 18:55

Are they naked shortbread farmers?? or have teh NMBs started a new fad in the garden?
Gluten free shortbread is certainly possible, nice and short IIRC.

But, no, not trees, short bread grows on bushes, short bread bushes as opposed to tall french bread trees.

So, is the zoo trip on? Not sure if school is affected by strike but would love to try and meet for a chat/ coffee/ lunch if it's on, with or without boy?

beanandspud · 21/06/2011 19:50

I'm sure if I looked hard enough I would find the strings that my mother cut off my violin in desperation - I'm not musically gifted in any way.

Tee - Yes, I think you have a right to a statement of earnings on headed paper if you can't find P45.

Mistle - Just out of interest what instrument do you play?

Yogabugs sounds great, unfortunately the nearest class is an hour from here. I go through phases of wondering whether I should do 'organised stuff' with Small Bean at weekends but (selfishly) after working all week we just enjoy doing family stuff with the occasional toddler party thrown in.

Hmmm, yes, a bit 'ouch' (although I am also a bit of a wuss). Couldn't find any paracetamol so have been taking some Calpol Blush - seems to work nicely! DH abroad this week so I have the perfect excuse to be in my jammies at 7pm watching TV.

Speaking of parties... What does one buy for a 4yr old girl? Nursery friend rather than family so not necessarily big/expensive. Boys are no problem; girls are a total mystery. Does it have to be pink?

MaryBS · 21/06/2011 20:14

Girls are easy to buy for, even 4yos. How about something to make?

UniS · 21/06/2011 22:03

kit of a crafty nature should go down just fine. Or plastic bangles/ necklace tat.

aaahhhh, put MIL on the train back home this morning, phew. Lovely and wonderful as she is in many ways, my goodness she's hard work, and it's just rillly good to have our wee home back to ourselves again.

DCMB - hello by they way, I don't think we've met before -my MIL is of the same ilk as your PILs in terms of thinking our darling RBoy can do no wrong. Which is lovely, but oh it can be wearing when she will keep saying "oh he's no trouble" when actually it is sometimes very hard work being his mum, despite the fact I really do think the sun shines out of his big boy pants encased bottom.

Actually, even MrR has commented sometimes on how competitive she can be - she does this thing where she talks about him as if she knows him better (and by subtle implication, loves him more) than anyone else in the world, which is clearly just silly. Ah well, she genuinely does have a lot of good points too, and she genuinely adores RBoy, so mustn't grumble, etc.

Tee, I'm with you on the not automatically respecting one's elders thing. If someone is rude and ignorant and has no consideration for the feelings of others, why should I respect them? Age does not automatically confer wisdom. If only it did.

Bean - fingers crossed for you, and I'm with you in agreeing that the signs sound hopeful - not that I know anything of these things, but all the people on here who do make a lot of sense!

Oxeye - yes, zoo trip next Thurs (30th), I think it's just me and Serpent so far with the possibility of an added Maud and maybe Scout? Hope you can make it too, with or without OxBoy! And AandO, sorry it's a wee bit too far for you!!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 21/06/2011 22:12

Bean, certainly it doesn't have to be pink. Crafty stuff, baby Sylvanian, nice set of felt pens, purse (absolute favourite with Wriggle) ....

mistlethrush · 21/06/2011 22:15

Viola....

(and violin, and I can play piano a bit and sing regularly)

They redid my biopsy 3x (yes, 3x) because they weren't getting definitive answers. Ended up having it it out - and th ereport came back that it was a 'very inflamed' bit of tissue. No kidding!!!

Girls - pink, pencil cases, princesses, craft.....

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/06/2011 22:18

Present for 4 year old girl - a football.

Scout19075 · 21/06/2011 22:26

I have now, officially, completed my Senior Section leader qualification.

MrScout should be in US Air Space. Sad I'm here and he's over there.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/06/2011 22:28

Wahoo Scout! Well done.

When will Mr Scout be back? Don't forget that Mellors is available to put up shelves, mow the lawn, put petrol in the car and do other stereotypically man stuff until he gets home!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 21/06/2011 22:33

Anyone in London - how much will it cost to take the tube/bus from Waterloo to Regents Park? At what age do children pay? I am trying to work out if it is worth paying an extra £7 for a travel card as opposed to just buying the ticket and paying for the tube separately.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/06/2011 22:36

Children travel free on buses and tubes. The minimum cash fare now on the tube is £4 (yes, really) so it is worth getting an Oyster/travel card.

Scout19075 · 21/06/2011 22:37

Saturday. So not very long. Long enough that if there were no TS I'd stomp my foot and insist on going but too short to take a toddler. If he was going for the 2+ weeks like they wanted him to originally (but one of his projects wouldn't release him) I would have definitely thrown a wobbly to get TS and I along. He's only a 1 hour flight/7 hour drive from my parents.

Poor TS, though. Got stuck having to stay for an extended Seniors/Guides tonight -- outdoor cooking night. Last year he hated it/cried a lot. This year, though, was another story. LOVED it. Kept trying to catch the smoke and laughing as he did it. Never tried to touch the fire though I was trying to help get a patrol fire going (one patrol, and there's always one, really struggled) he wanted to sit on my lap while I struck matches/tried to light the fire. Obviously I didn't let him, and he wasn't impressed with me, but soon went off to follow another leader who had a spade and was scattering old ashes.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 21/06/2011 22:41

Thank you, Maud.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/06/2011 22:45

You're welcome, Serpent. Cash fares were set high by, I think, Ken (before Boris' time) to encourage people to go over to Oyster cards.
