The One and Only Tea Room - Now Hanging in Babylon

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/05/2011 23:57

Well folks, here we are, transported through time and space to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Golden couches and the distressed chintz sofa are arranged on a terrace overlooking the Euphrates and, as we recline on the exquisitely-soft cushions eating peeled grapes, we can enjoy the warm fragrance of the gardens' many exotic blooms. The garden is tended by the indefatigable Mellors, with occasional help from the bishops, rabbis and any passing world leaders. Somewhere behind the terrace there is an aga and a priest's hole, with optional massage table.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly.

Bean- oops, do you think he heard about TS and was trying to emulate?? Boy shut his little finger ( pad) in a door today. I think I got it ice packed quick enough, he had a bruise but it didn;t seem to be any more than that. teh scratch down his check is more noticeable, he can't remember whos nails it was! but it was playtime. Ho hum. There are some "characters" in boys class, some of whom have not yet learnt to keep hands and feet to them self.

beanandspud · 08/06/2011 23:30

UniS - hope Boy is ok. It's been a week of bumps on here...roll on Friday.

Tee2072 · 09/06/2011 06:35

Mellors? Mellors? Where has he gotten to...ah, there you are. Thanks for the Brew. I need you to go to this tax seminar for me so I can go back to bed after LCT and MrTee leave. Or, better yet, you get up with LCT at 415 tomorrow.

::falls over::

amberlight · 09/06/2011 07:26

Been awake nearly all night. Not my idea of fun.

::sips from Brew::
zzzzzzzzzz.......

MaryBS · 09/06/2011 09:02

Another sleepy one here too, didn't sleep well last night...

mistlethrush · 09/06/2011 09:18

Mistlechick has regularly bumped himself fairly badly - got rung by school once who reassuringly said 'its OK, he's fine, but just wanted to warn you that he's had an accident and it looks rather 'interesting''. More icepacks when we got home - then arnicare cream (which I swear is magic cream!). By the morning you could see exactly where the cream had gone - no colour at all where it had gone and the swelling had reduced massively - and the bit close to his eye that I didn't dare get the cream on was dark and swollen still - and you coudl see the wobbly line the cream went on to Grin

Hope all smalls are better today.

Strawberries for breakfast anyone?

Tee2072 · 09/06/2011 20:50

Very quiet on here today! I know I've been running around like a headless, exhausted chicken. Y'all also?

Wine?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/06/2011 20:52

Oh yes please, Tee. What about some Twiglet Biscuit Surprise, too?

Good evening!

I've been spending TS's grandparents' money. My MiL gave me money to "go buy some toys for TS" and my Mom is starting her shopping for TS's birthday (October) and Christmas (well, she needs to have them by Thanksgiving for us to bring back). Anything she wants to post she needs a month before so, like me, she shops ahead.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 09/06/2011 22:03

UniS - Please please remind me - pm me with your address. I was so annoyed when I accidentally bought a second copy on Abe books. Now I know why!

Catitainahatita · 09/06/2011 22:11

Mistle: I'm not a expert on the English side of things, but in Mexico you can write a very simple will which basically just names a heir for all your (unspecified) wordly possessions and indicates a curator and in our case, tutor in case the children are left without both parents. This way it matters not what you buy/sell etc for the rest of your life, your heir will always be your heir etc.

Hello to all of you. Sympathies to those with bumped tots and racing hearts.

UniS · 09/06/2011 22:16

Have PMed you Unserp. ThNAK YOU>

RagingRabbit · 09/06/2011 22:19

Oxeye - you're a woman after my own heart! Ah yes. Thoughts of what one could productively achieve in the hours spent honing one's numeracy and logic skills playing Spider or watching predictable reruns cutting edge TV - hmm, yes. My justification to myself is that it's what I do when I need to un-fry my brain, and therefore, said fried brain wouldn't be very productive at that time anyway. So no great novels lost after all!

Serpent - sorry to hear you can't make the zoo trip after all. From my perspective, it makes no difference at all if we go on June 30th rather than July 1st, but I realise that may not be true for all those who are planning to go, and particularly for tea, what with travelling over from furrin shores and all. But anyway, I am pretty flexible and if others' commitments allow them to be too, might there be a way round this?

Glad it seems to be good news about the injured small people. Yes, we do all have our A&E stories, don't we! Two already for RBoy. And have to say that our local A&E was pretty excellent both times, maybe because they have a dedicated paediatric A&E section - don't know how normal that is?

Wine top up anyone?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/06/2011 22:47

Oooh, yes please.

- not in an entirely good way - after hearing it on an advert.

Whoops that killed the thread.

oxeye · 10/06/2011 00:12

No. You canna kill the tea room Wink
oxbloke back so I've been talking to a real grown up not just you lot.. Real but less immediate!!
I loved his dark materials. Sobbed through the entire third one. Loved the plays too

Catitainahatita · 10/06/2011 00:13

I managed approximately 15 seconds of that Maud. It's too modern for me.

And shakes her head as she realises she is morphing into a female version of her dad: doesn't watch the Tv [check]; hasn't listened to any modern music since 1999 [1960 for him, obvously] [check]; hasn't been to the cinema since before the children were born [check: the last time my dad went was on his honeymoon!]; prefers reading the newspaper to chatting while eating [check].

And this is before I start a checklist of how I now do nearly all the things I used to hate about my mum.

My poor bairns......

Catitainahatita · 10/06/2011 00:14

And now shall add: incapable of using modern technology without screwing up [check]
What's with the bold letters????

Catitainahatita · 10/06/2011 00:17

Just got confused about whose dark marterials you were referring to there, Oxeye. I now realise you mean Philip Pullman and not Oxbloke's.
Drinks wine fast.
My poor bairns...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/06/2011 00:17

::Clasps Oxeye to her ample bosom::

But why are you on here, Oxeye? You should be clasping OxBloke to your ample bosom.

I too am morphing into my mother but am fighting it all the way. I still love a bit of so bad it's good disco, though.

OP posts:
oxeye · 10/06/2011 00:30

Ha ha. I think Oxbloke needs a couple more days fumigation before I clasp him anywhere. I sent him back to the shower twice before letting him into the marital bed And thrn he woke me to help pull out ticks Hmm it's romance a go go here!!

Yes Cat sorry to confuse an inverted post would have read better! it was pp materials!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/06/2011 00:38

Ah yes. The fumigation. ::sprays screen with DDT:: I read on Camping the other day that one can buy a tick extractor. ::small boak::

Dare one ask how long until OxBloke's next sojourn on the great grey-green greasy Limpopo?

Morning all. 5 a.m. is just too early.... Took my injection last night way too late so 5 a.m. meant I was still extremely fuzzy-headed and couldn't walk in a straight line. I am not impressed, TS!

Hospital appointment this morning then lunch with friend in YOUT. I just hope TS isn't a grumpy boy given the stupid o'clock hour (I can tell you he will NOT nap in his stroller at the hospital).

amberlight · 10/06/2011 09:29

Oh yes, Oxeye, talking to real grown ups rather than us lot is to be recommended Grin

Scout, you need Brew by the sound of it.
