The One and Only Tea Room - Now Hanging in Babylon

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/05/2011 23:57

Well folks, here we are, transported through time and space to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Golden couches and the distressed chintz sofa are arranged on a terrace overlooking the Euphrates and, as we recline on the exquisitely-soft cushions eating peeled grapes, we can enjoy the warm fragrance of the gardens' many exotic blooms. The garden is tended by the indefatigable Mellors, with occasional help from the bishops, rabbis and any passing world leaders. Somewhere behind the terrace there is an aga and a priest's hole, with optional massage table.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly.

Honestly, those NMBs. They nicked Amber's ginger biscuits yesterday

Scout19075 · 29/05/2011 21:49

Went to the wedding yesterday. First time I had been away from TS for more than about 3 hours at a go and was very strange. Rationally I know it's normal/hormonal to feel odd, distracted, etc., but it didn't make it easier to deal with. There were several other toddlers at the wedding/reception, including the 21 month old son of a friend, and having all of these other tots around made me miss TS but at the same time I was glad we left him home. He was a good boy for my PiL but he definitely let me know he was happy to have me home.

Went out to the craft store of a solo wander today -- was fabulous.

Want to bake and do crafty stuff but don't have the inclination to get all of the supplies out.

WWYD -- have come across some websites my SiL might find of interest for her children. MiL agrees I should email her/send her the links now that the burial has past. My question is, how do I tactfully ask her how she is (keeping in mind I have seen her since Thursday's burial and took my cues from her but she's hard to read even when she's not stressed/hormonal/grieving)?

Just come back from a lovely day at Longleat.

RagingRabbit · 30/05/2011 00:06

I am Rabbit, hear me roar...

Hello ladies, your friendly neighbourhood Lapin here. We had a lovely day out too, at the fair. Took LittleLapin on the big wheel and the dodgems for the first time, ooh I do love a good go on the bumper cars and so does he, it turns out! And it was lovely the three of us on the big wheel, all cosied in together, LittleLapin exclaiming away: "We're so high up! We can see everything!"

The advent of speech is such a lot of fun. I particularly love the little "abberations" he still has - my fave at the mo is "a very lot" as in the perceptive observation "I have a very lot of toys" (so true, and yet he can always summon up the appetite for more...)

There was a Queen documentary on earlier so prompted by that here's a little nod towards a Bank Holiday Sunday Disco... M.Lapin at home again tomorrow, three days in a row, whoop de doo!

Get well wishes to all sick roomies and offspring, and general waves to all Smile

Good morning.

In honor of Memorial Day I have hung up the tea room American Flag and patriotic bunting to honor and say thank you to all of the servicemen and women who gave up there lives to help keep us free and safe. (I thank service personnel in both of my home countries in this.)

Breakfast anyone?

amberlight · 30/05/2011 08:11

Yes please for breakfast, Scout. What's on offer?

Tee2072 · 30/05/2011 08:20

Morning all.

Lovely decorations, Scout. I think a very American breakfast is in order, don't you? How about pancakes, waffels, real maple syrup, crispy bacon, coffee and OJ? Or tea, of course.

Both LCT and MrTee off for the day as daycare and MrTee's work are open. I am trying to convince myself to do some paid work but what really needs to be done is a good tidy. Maybe a bit of both!

Donki · 30/05/2011 08:28

Lapin
I remember with great affection some of the YDs little speech aberrations.
One even entered our family lexicon. He used to say "Quite difficult-hard that"

DH and I still use it....

Yes to pancakes and bacon. Yum!
Thankyou Tee and Scout.

Here is some carrot juice as my contribution.

amberlight · 30/05/2011 09:12

I think bacon and pancakes sounds excellent too.

Tee2072 · 30/05/2011 20:34

Did my breakfast scare everyone away?!?!

Scout19075 · 30/05/2011 21:01
UnSerpentQuiCourt · 30/05/2011 21:15

Mmmmm, pancakes and bacon with maple syrup! Good idea for supper.

oxeye · 30/05/2011 21:31

Amber - I am sure I have read that a lady having your kind of treatment should not garden due to risk of lurgies in soil? If so you must make sure you only direct proceedings!! Not wanting to scare you and sorry if I'm wrong but do check for us with your Dr my dear?!

Yeah to half term. Boo to illness and lack of sleep

catita I would almost titter at Mr H failing an exam when his brain is the size of a planet if the implications for your family was not so serious. So I shall cross my fingers that you can get out somehow!!

Longleat sounds grand. I've never been. But I have gad a long weekend away in country with chums. Lovely but wet. We're off to south coast seaside for the week unserp. Should be good

UniS · 30/05/2011 21:43

hi all, american breakfast will make a fine supper.

I cooked porridge this morning... pre race brekkie for boy who had his first cycle race today. An Under 8s Closed circuit race. He had a ball, rode very well and fast and came 3rd. We think he beat at least one under 10 as well. He looked sooooo tiny compared to the 7/8 yr olds he shared a podium with.

Scout19075 · 30/05/2011 21:54

Strange day. Ready to go home. Feel a bit homesick as well.

Well done, UniS's Boy.

RagingRabbit · 30/05/2011 23:07

Hugs to you Scout, if you need them. Nice bunting and hear hear.

It was quite difficult-hard Smile getting LittleLapin to sleep tonight, after he had an unscheduled nap at midday, being so pooped from yesterday. Also maybe over-excited after going out to eat a bit late this evening, it was lots of fun though.

And another well done to Boy, Unis.

Am too full from dinner for anything else now, but can I stake my claim to pancakes in the morning?

UniS · 30/05/2011 23:32

ummmm, panckes.

UniS adds to teh pool of drool.

oxeye · 30/05/2011 23:36

pancakes yum ::takes a few on way to bed::

Getting into the Queen Groove with the Beeb fest tonight....

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 06:43

Well done boy, UniS' boy!

Another 450 wake up. He goes down great. Sleeps great. Until the break of frackin' dawn! This is when he's in his own bed. If he sleeps with me or MrTee he sleeps until 7 or so. So how do I get him to do that in his own room?!?! He's 2 in 2 weeks...too young for a Gro Clock, do you think?

Okay, so question for Tea Room: money is tight, as it is for everyone these days. So which do you compromise while shopping; your budget or your ideals? I have changed from Free Trade to Rainforest Alliance coffee, which isn't so bad, but I recently bought non-free range eggs and I still feel bad about it, but they are so much cheaper!!

I actually posted a thread on this not too long ago. Instead of a good discussion it went into a small bun fight about other things. ::rolls eyes::

So, what do the citizens of the tea room do?

CMOTdibbler · 31/05/2011 08:55

Well done UniBoy ! Tiddler, I regret to say, still has stabilisers. Due to distractability rather than lack of balance, so this week they are coming off and staying off as his saddle is as high as it will go, and a new bicycle is required soon.

Tee, I have to say that there are some principles I can't bring myself to compromise on unless times were desperate. I buy eggs from a local farm shop, and they are much cheaper than the supermarket

RagingRabbit · 31/05/2011 08:57

For you, oxeye:

Free range eggs - one thing I won't compromise on, personally, but then we don't get through that many of them, I'm the only one in the household who eats them. But I think I would still always buy free range, even if we ate more. Also buy mayo made with free range egg, etc.

One thing I couldn't get over in the Queen docs - how posh Freddie Mercury was when speaking! I'd never heard him interviewed before, only doing the rock star drawl thing live, and he sounded like a minor royal. Poor M.Lapin had to put up with me exclaiming ad infinitum throughout the two eves: "but he's so posh! I had no idea!", like a goldfish suddenly endowed with the power of speech.

Tee2072 · 31/05/2011 12:34

I did cringe at the eggs when Mr Tee chose them. But we are really on the edge of broke right now and every penny counts.

I wonder if chickens would like living on my balcony...
